The seeds we plant

Chapter 40: Epilogue

In a room with a coffee table surrounded by luxurious looking sofas, a heated discussion is taking place.

- As I said, we have to focus on defending ourselves, if we act separately or show hostility, we will only draw more attention from the demonic swords.

- Of course, after all that strategy has worked very well for us, hasn't it?

A silence reigns for a few seconds in the room as the tension in the air simply intensifies. However, a voice cuts the atmosphere with a hostility that petrifies everyone involved.

- I agree with Janeth. I refuse to leave this like this after what they did to Mia.

- But Cathelaya! Of all of us, I expected you to understand that this is too dangerous. Precisely because of Mia's absence, we cannot be careless with our next move.

A bolt of lightning that came out of the ceiling of the room hits the small table that was in the center, roasting all the snacks on it.

- That was before Mia, right now humans must be in high spirits after having defeated the most powerful of us. If we don't strike back now, how can you call yourselves witches? I refuse to let this audacity go unpunished.

- But Cathelaya...

A cold look pierces me as a clear murderous intent comes out of the grandmother.

- No matter what you tell me, I'll go anyway... Maybe for you Mia was just a troublemaker who was too strong, but for me... she was the only thing I had left from my time as the blizzard witch. Before it was a matter of survival, but now...

An intense bloodlust fills the place as violent winds send all the furniture and the table flying against the endless walls of the room.

- For me it's personal.

After saying that, the grandmother leaves the place through the double doors, which remain open after her exit. From among the furniture comes a girl who breathes a sigh of relief seeing that the grandmother had left. Like a mouse, she sneaks towards the door, but before she could get there she is grabbed by the collar of her strange appearance by another girl.

- You heard her Judith, although I was also in favor of defense, right now I don't consider it a good idea.

- Janeth, you too?

The girl smiles sadly as she looks at Judith.

- I'm sorry. I thought defense would be a good idea because we had Mia on our side... But as you see, things are different now. My power can't expand its full potential in defense, so I'll head out to take down one or two countries. Also... I'm also doing this for Dolla.

A last melancholic look is directed towards Judith before turning around and walking out the door.

- W-wait, why are you taking me too?

- What are you saying? Of course you'll come with me. I'd feel very lonely if you didn't come with me.

- Huh? I don't care! I don't want to go into danger on my own.

- Come with me, okay? Please

- Ughh…

A cry of resignation could be heard in the distance as Janeth and Hasumi walked away.

- Hihihihi, hasn't this gotten interesting? I never thought that gorilla could make such an interesting scene.

With those words, Emily also leaves the place with a disturbing laugh. Only Carla and Judith remain in the room as they look at each other's faces in dismay.

........................

In a dimly lit tent in the middle of the night, a fat man in a white robe with gold trim enjoys a glass of wine by the light of the lantern. The man's grimace shows uncontrollable joy as he studies the glass of wine. After a few moments, footsteps are heard in the distance. The footsteps stop just before entering the tent.

- Bishop Liberio, I have a message for you. May I come in?

A soldier's voice interrupts his thoughts as he looks towards the door with some annoyance. Without any intention of hiding his annoyance, he answers the soldier.

- What the hell do you want? I'm in the middle of something important here.

- I-I'm sorry to bother you sir, but I have an urgent message from the soldiers under your command.

- My soldiers...? Oh, it's them! Come in, my son, and inform me.

- With your permission.

The soldier timidly enters the tent while carrying a letter in his hand. He unwraps it and hands the letter to the bishop, who almost snatches it from his hands. Unparalleled emotion pours out of the bishop as he stumbles open the letter. As soon as he undoes the envelope he opens the letter and begins to read it carefully. Only a few moments later, the man jumps for joy as his hand forms a fist that punches the air.

- I did it... I've done it. I have killed the witch of deception!

The soldier is clearly confused as the bishop jumps up and down like a bouncy ball.

- Didn't the hero of blood do that, sir?

- The bastard from Irshel? Nonsense! I was the one who did it. I was the one who destroyed her reality anchor!

- Reality anchor?

- ... Don't worry about what I just said, it's just a term that was given to me during an oracle with the angel. Besides, a common soldier like you doesn't deserve to know it.

- Understood... but sir, about the witch of deception, the other 4 heroes have seen how the hero of blood defeated the witch.

- That doesn't matter, after all, history is written by the winners of the war, right? More precisely, it is written by their commanding general.

- But sir...

- What's wrong? Do you want to test the limits of my patience?

- O-of course not, your excellency, it's just that... we have a bird problem.

- Bird problem? What the hell are you talking about?

- …

The soldier is speechless for a few moments as he thinks about how to say it. Finally he opens his mouth.

- There are many parrots in the area.

- …And so what? Do you expect there to be no parrots in the middle of nature? Or do you really want to be executed for wasting my time?

- O-of course not sir, it's just that for some reason… the parrots are talking to us.

- …

The priest's face has lost all its previous joy. Now he just looks with annoyance and disgust at the soldier in front of him.

- D-don't get me wrong sir. The problem isn't that they talk, but the message.

- The message? What the hell are the damn birds saying?

- … Praises to the hero of blood sir.

- Ah?

A nasal voice comes out of the bishop's throat as he looks at the soldier in disbelief.

- And you expect me to believe all that?

- I'm sorry for being so bold sir... but for some reason the birds keep repeating that it was the hero of blood who defeated the witch of deception. It describes the scene well enough to be convincing and that's not the only problem.

- Is there more?

- The soldiers are starting to worship those birds as messengers of God.

The priest slumps in the chair while rubbing his temple intensely. After a few minutes of thinking, he finally looks back at the soldier.

- I want your entire platoon to hunt those damn birds. Don't leave a single one alive, understood?

- Yes sir, right now.

After that, the soldier leaves the tent surrounded by absolute darkness.

- With the achievement of having defeated the witches during my supervision, the position of Pope will be assured. I only have to take care of one more small annoyance.

The knife in the bishop's hand is inserted until the blade of the knife is not seen in a photo that was hanging. A sudden rage takes over as he looks at a drawing of the flame hero.

- You won't steal my credit this time.

A huge malice comes out of the bishop's body as he remembers the shadow witch fiasco.

- Even though I told you the location of the shadow witch thanks to my oracle, that stupid kid took all the credit. Stupid brat!

As he complained, his glass was slowly cracking.

- You won't get out of your next mission alive this time, fire brat.
