Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Does Gender Even Matter?
Zabuza sneered coldly. He wasn't some inexperienced rookie ninja. If Deidara's ability revolved around explosions, then wouldn't making himself impossible to see solve the problem?
"Hidden Mist Technique!"
The signature jutsu of the Mist Ninja Village. Even Raiga Kurosuki had used the same strategy when facing Deidara's explosive powers.
A dense, chakra-infused white mist began to spread, enveloping the grasslands and the surrounding forest in an impenetrable shroud.
The last time Deidara faced this technique, he had been in the air, barely experiencing its full effects.
Now, trapped within the Hidden Mist, he finally understood how formidable this jutsu could be. His vision was compressed to a mere meter. He could barely see his waist when he looked down, and even stretching out his hand left his palm invisible.
A highly effective restrictive technique.
"Brat!" Zabuza's voice echoed from the distance. "The Hidden Mist doesn't just limit your vision—it dulls a ninja's sensory abilities too. It turns you into a blind fool."
"Combined with my Silent Killing Technique, it becomes an inescapable nightmare for anyone."
"Is that so?"
"Then why did I hear you failed to assassinate the Fourth Mizukage and fled in disgrace? If you're as invincible as you claim, shouldn't the Fourth Mizukage already be dead?" Deidara countered mockingly.
"…"
"Damn brat! You're dead meat!" Zabuza roared, his frustration evident.
"From now on, I won't make a sound. The next noise you hear will be the slice of my Executioner's Blade cutting you in half!" His voice, filled with rage, dissipated into the thick mist.
Deidara smirked, thinking to himself: You're not Raiga Kurosuki with his lightning techniques. Even if he were resurrected, I'd still handle him just fine with my anti-lightning clay.
"C1: Special Variant – Serpent Swarm!"
Mimicking the Summoning: Formation of Ten Thousand Snakes, Deidara unleashed an army of white clay snakes, spreading them across the area.
"I don't need to know where you are. I just need to blow up everywhere, don't I?"
Damn it! This brat!
From the movement of the snakes, Zabuza realized Deidara wasn't bluffing. Hearing the young ninja's smug words only made him grit his teeth harder.
Still, as infuriating as it was, Zabuza knew the situation was tricky. With such a massive swarm of explosive creatures, he wouldn't even have a safe spot to stand. How was he supposed to execute Silent Killing under these conditions?
"Is that all, Demon of the Hidden Mist?"
"If this is the best you've got, I might have to question the Organization's decision to recruit you. After all, we don't take in weaklings."
"Shut up, brat!"
Zabuza's hands flew through a series of hand signs.
"If you think I'm just a Taijutsu user, you've got it all wrong!"
"Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique!"
A massive sphere of water erupted from Zabuza's mouth, transforming into roaring waves that surged outward, sweeping away the surrounding clay snakes in an instant.
"Ha!" Deidara didn't seem fazed. He didn't need those clay snakes to hit Zabuza.
The real purpose of releasing them was to use the shockwaves from their explosions to blow away the mist. Inspired by Yagura's Wind Release: Passing Typhoon, Deidara figured if wind jutsu could work, so could his bombs.
As the flames of the explosions faded, the dense mist covering the area dispersed, and Deidara's vision returned.
The only downside? The entire battlefield now looked like a disaster zone, with no trace of the serene grasslands it once was.
"Zabuza-san!" Haku called out in concern. When Zabuza had first used the Hidden Mist Technique, Haku had felt pity for Deidara. But now, it seemed like Zabuza was the one in trouble.
"What's wrong?"
"Does a kid have to protect you now?" Deidara taunted.
"Hmph!"
"Haku, use your Ice Release and kill him," Zabuza commanded. He wasn't the type to let emotions cloud his judgment. Victory was all that mattered.
"Yes, Zabuza-san!" Haku replied dutifully, though he cast an apologetic glance at Deidara.
"I'm sorry, but if it's Zabuza-san's order, I must carry it out."
"Ice Release: Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals!"
Ice mirrors formed around Deidara, trapping him within their reflective prison. Haku appeared within one of the mirrors, holding a handful of senbon, poised to attack.
"Haku, be careful!"
"Hah!"
Unbeknownst to Haku, numerous clay spiders had already spread across the battlefield. With Deidara's mastery of insect-like forms, the spiders were intricately detailed and could even climb the smooth surfaces of the ice mirrors.
BOOM!
The mirrors shattered into pieces, obliterated by the tiny clay spiders.
"Alright, I've had my fun. Time to get serious and end this."
"C1 – Parasitic Bugs!"
Inspired by Aburame's techniques, Deidara unleashed a swarm of microscopic clay insects. These tiny creatures could burrow into the enemy's body and explode from the inside.
"Zabuza's Shock Value +500!"
This technique was reminiscent of his original C4 Karura, though it fell short of that level. While these bugs were small, they were still visible to the naked eye, unlike the near-invisible bombs of C4.
"Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet!"
"Ice Release: Ice Rock Dome!"
Zabuza and Haku poured all their chakra into their jutsu, but their efforts were futile against the relentless swarm.
"Careful!"
"Art is an explosion! Katsu!"
Countless miniature explosions erupted, leaving Zabuza and Haku gravely injured. However, Deidara had intentionally controlled the number of bugs infiltrating their bodies, ensuring the explosions wouldn't kill them outright.
"Zabuza: Shock Value +1000!"
"Well? Ready to accept my offer now?" Deidara asked, standing before Zabuza.
"Damn brat!" Zabuza spat blood, glaring defiantly at Deidara. His spirit was unyielding.
A real tough guy.
"If you don't agree, I'll just kill Haku," Deidara threatened with a smirk.
Haku shook his head lightly. "It's no use. I'm just Zabuza-san's tool."
"But please, spare Zabuza-san. If someone has to die, let it be me."
"Fine! I agree!" Zabuza interrupted.
"Eh?" Haku looked surprised.
"Haku, don't flatter yourself. I'm not doing this for you," Zabuza said gruffly. "I just realized joining this Organization might not be such a bad idea. I need a place to lay low anyway."
"Oh, is that so? Then we don't need Haku anymore. He's too weak to be useful," Deidara said, feigning indifference.
"You brat!" Zabuza growled. He didn't even know how many times he'd cursed Deidara today. "If you dare lay a hand on Haku, I'll kill you myself!"
"Wow, Haku, looks like Zabuza-san doesn't see you as just a tool after all," Deidara teased with a sly grin.
Haku lowered his head, his cheeks flushed like cherry blossoms in full bloom.
Deidara's mind wandered momentarily: Haku like this… does gender even matter? Even if he's a guy, he's… Ahem!
"Congrats to Zabuza-san and Haku! Wishing you two a happy future!" he quipped cheekily, snapping himself out of his thoughts.
