Chapter 207: Chapter 207: Bad News, Still Can't Win

"Looks like we've won again!"

Watching the retreating alliance forces on the battlefield, Joton couldn't help but laugh.

The other generals wore expressions of inevitability.

The alliance army was disorganized and each faction had its own agenda, making it difficult to unify their efforts. Their combat strength was naturally inferior to the Imperial army, making defeat inevitable.

Stali chuckled, "The alliance's main forces are here. If we deliver a heavy blow, it'll make things much easier afterward."

Joton laughed heartily, but then noticed Braid deep in thought and asked, "What's wrong?"

Braid shook his head, contemplating, "The alliance can't match the Empire on the front lines. The opposing commander must know this. They've used decapitation tactics before to turn the tide, but there's been no movement so far."

Joton shrugged, "They probably think we're prepared, that the success rate of a night raid is low, so they've given up."

"Perhaps," Braid conceded.

"No need to worry, Duke Braid."

A sultry voice suddenly interjected from the side.

Just hearing the voice stirred a strange heat within the assembly, a subtle restlessness.

They all knew the owner of the voice was incredibly beautiful, the most stunning woman they'd ever seen.

Yet none dared let their gaze linger on her, lest they incur her displeasure.

"The master sent me to deal with those wizard apprentices."

"If they come, leave it to me."

The Red Widow laughed coquettishly.

Two cloaked figures stood motionless behind her.

"Then we leave it to you," Braid said respectfully.

The woman before him was one of Lord Sunan's two deputies, a core member of the Star Alliance. Even the Emperor showed her respect. As a duke, he dared not slight her.

The Red Widow smiled, glancing at the figures behind her.

With them present, there was likely no enemy on the Starlight Continent that could frighten her.

At that moment, the two figures simultaneously looked into the distance, pausing briefly before each shooting a beam of lightning.

The lightning tore through the air, striking the void over five hundred meters away almost instantly.

In a flash, two gray-robed men appeared, staggering back a step.

Their faces were full of astonishment.

They had thought they could get within a hundred meters before the targets' golems detected them, but they were discovered from much farther away.

Who were those cloaked figures to have such sharp senses?

"Attack!"

A low command rang out.

Seeing they had been discovered, Facado ceased hiding, appearing boldly and shooting towards the target.

Simultaneously, over twenty wizard apprentices revealed themselves, their faces cold as they launched attacks on Braid and his men.

"You lot again!"

Joton was more pleased than alarmed, drawing his weapon to charge forward, but Braid stopped him.

"Don't be rash. Remember your status."

Braid looked at Joton helplessly. Already a marquis, why act so impulsively?

As a first-ring legendary knight, you think you can fight third-level wizard apprentices?

That's suicide!

"Leave the assassins to Lady Red Widow," Braid said.

Joton clicked his tongue but halted his steps.

On the other side, seeing the assassins, the Red Widow's face blossomed with a charming smile.

"Been waiting for you."

Amid her melodious laughter, the two figures behind her threw off their cloaks, revealing tall, slender forms and exquisitely beautiful, cold faces.

Clang!

Silver liquid metal surged from the palms of the young women, swiftly forming two knight swords.

The next moment, the two young women, swords in hand, charged at the assassins like arrows.

Having seen their positions compromised earlier, Facado and his group didn't underestimate the young women. The two leading wizard apprentices sneered, one suddenly roaring, emitting blazing red flames from every pore.

The flames surged, forming a three-meter-tall giant wolf that pounced fiercely at the leftmost girl.

The other rapidly chanted a spell, summoning countless ghastly green mist that coalesced into a monstrous beast's head, jaws wide as it lunged at the rightmost girl.

The girls' responses to the incoming attacks were uncannily identical.

With a clang, silver metal liquid surged from their bodies, quickly enveloping them in a shiny silver skin.

Whether blazing wolves or venomous jaws, both were stopped by the seemingly thin silver metal skin.

Shing!

Seizing the close-quarters opportunity, the leftmost girl thrust her sword into the flame wolf's body, twisting her wrist. Immediately, a sound like blades slicing flesh erupted, countless sharp edges bursting from the wolf, turning it into a hedgehog.

"Ah!!"

The wolf let out a shrill scream, disbelief in its voice.

In flame wolf form, physical attacks should have been ineffective, even enchanted weapons rarely harmed it, yet the sword inside it was lethal.

Simultaneously, another scream echoed.

Countless metal spikes tore through the ghastly beast's head, engulfing the opposing wizard apprentice.

As the metal storm passed, the wizard apprentice was reduced to a cloud of blood, leaving no trace behind!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Meanwhile, spells of various hues rained down, engulfing the two girls.

Yet as the light faded, the apprentices were horrified to find the girls unharmed.

A seemingly thin but unbreakable invisible force field enveloped them.

Facado and his companions were visibly shaken.

In just one exchange, two capable third-level apprentices were killed, and the girls remained unscathed, their power was terrifying!

When did the Star Alliance gain such formidable individuals, and two of them at that?

Facado's mind raced through the intelligence on the Star Alliance.

The only known female third-level apprentice should be Rose, yet these identical twin girls were unknown.

Before they could ponder further, the girls attacked, unleashing a barrage of spell missiles.

"Instant casting!" a wizard apprentice exclaimed in shock.

But the surprises weren't over.

Serpent Mark, Lightning Bolt, Enervation Ray...

Spell after spell erupted from the girls' hands, quickly downing two apprentices under their powerful barrage.

"Third-ring spells!"

"Impossible?!"

"Are they formal wizards?"

The apprentices were filled with dread.

Third-ring spells, combined with the apparent innate ability of liquid metal manipulation, made these girls seem like formal wizards.

But how could that be?

As third-level apprentices, they knew how difficult becoming a wizard was.

One Sunan on the Starlight Continent was already unbelievable. How could there be two more wizards?

And twins at that?

Facado and his group were bewildered, finding it absurd.

"Ah!!"

A scream suddenly rang out.

One girl appeared behind an apprentice as if teleporting, her sword transforming into numerous spikes that pierced through him.

Another comrade down!

The group snapped back to reality, frantically casting spells in retaliation.

Facing two overwhelmingly powerful foes, they dared not underestimate them, unleashing their strongest attacks.

Especially when they saw Facado produce a gem, they intensified their assault, distracting the girls to buy Facado time.

The egg-sized gem was perfectly round, like a diamond, gleaming beautifully in the sunlight.

As Facado infused it with mental energy, it shone brightly, as if absorbing all surrounding light.

The brilliance intensified rapidly, soon blindingly bright.

In their vision, it seemed a small sun had appeared.

In the next moment, the gem hummed, releasing a radiant beam that reached a girl almost instantly.

Despite her agility, the girl couldn't evade in time, channeling her liquid metal into a small silver shield.

Thud!

Time seemed to freeze momentarily. With a dull thud, the silver shield was pierced, followed by her protective spells, the Ring of Extreme Protection's layer, Elemental Energy Shield, and energy particle shield.

In an instant, five layers of protection were breached, the beam striking her brow, piercing through her head!

Seeing this, Kaire and the others rejoiced.

"Worthy of the Russell family's artifact, its power is formidable!"

Kaire felt both delighted and impressed.

They had personally experienced the girl's formidable defenses.

Even dozens of spells left her unharmed, a chilling prospect.

Fortunately, Facado's Sun Melting Gem hadn't disappointed!

Facado gasped for breath, his face pale, but a smile appeared as he looked at the hole in the girl's brow.

The next second, his smile froze.

His companions' faces mirrored his shock.

The girl's brow wriggled, silver liquid flowing from her pores, rapidly filling the wound. In a flash, the skin returned to its fair state, the wound vanished.

The girl shook her head, continuing her charge expressionlessly.

"!!!"

Everyone's eyes widened in disbelief.

What was going on?

Clearly struck in a vital spot, why was she unharmed?

Facado was equally stunned.

He knew the Sun Melting Gem's power well.

The solar beam should have roasted her brain upon piercing her brow. No matter how tenacious a creature's vitality, it shouldn't survive that!

—Unless she harbored some special bloodline, her head wasn't vital, or she wasn't an ordinary being!

A startling thought crossed Facado's mind.

His expression shifted, then he gritted his teeth, activating the Sun Melting Gem again, targeting the girl's left chest.

This time, he adjusted the energy properties, causing the beam to explode upon impact, blasting a double-fist-sized wound in her chest, revealing flowing silver liquid and a gem-like silver-gray core.

"Soul Core!"

Facado felt struck by lightning, stunned.

The apprentices, too, widened their eyes, as if witnessing something unbelievable.

Soul Core — these two terrifyingly powerful girls who fought on equal terms with them were puppet beings!

How could it be?!

How could a puppet be so powerful?

Facado and his group were thrown into chaos.

Already at a disadvantage, they were no match for the girls now.

One by one, the apprentices fell to the girls.

Facado wanted to activate the Sun Melting Gem again, but using it twice had drained his mental energy. He couldn't even cast a few spells now.

Within a dozen breaths, the twenty-plus apprentices attacking the Imperial camp were reduced to four, including Facado.

Facing the girls blocking their retreat, Facado felt despair for the first time in his life.

"Facado Russell, current head of the Russell family, correct?"

A beautiful woman approached, eyeing him meaningfully.

Facado gritted his teeth, "And you are?"

"Red Widow."

Facado's heart skipped.

He'd seen the name in intelligence reports, supposedly a core member of the Star Alliance.

Ignoring his reaction, the Red Widow laughed, "Surrender. If not for the master's interest in the Russell family, ordering me to spare you, you'd be dead."

Facado hesitated, looking around, realizing the surviving three were all his family's apprentices.

This fact brought no joy, only bitterness.

Choosing targets amid a fierce battle showed the girls hadn't exerted their full strength, a fact that deepened his despair.

Facado sighed deeply, lowering his arms in defeat.

"We surrender."
