Chapter 12: Chapter 12 - Handkerchief
Prime and Prince Henry fell asleep in Prime's secret place in the woods. She knew that she was safe here even she was with the prince.
She woke up early, making fire at the pile of woods, and prepared a meal for breakfast. She knew something would happen like this. She prepared hot pot of chicken soup, bread, and cheese.
Prince Henry was awake when he smelled fragrant food. He saw Prime making breakfast, and he accidentally smiled at her secretly. "Wait, I shouldn't be smiling anyway."
He went there to look closely at her. "Do you like me to help?"
"No, thanks. You're a prince. I don't want your hands to be dirty." She placed the knife beside the half chopped onion, looking for the plates, and when she returned, the prince was chopping the onion.
"Ouch!" He picked his index finger, and there was blood dripping.
Prime went quickly at him. She grabbed his finger gently, and she put her lips there. Prince Henry was not able to move on his place. He felt her lips on his wound, and after a few seconds, she gave him her hadkerchief to him.
"I apologize for being rude to you, Your Highness." She knelt down in front of him.
"It's okay." He wrapped his finger with her handkerchief.
"I told you not to help."
"I want to help you. Not because I a a prince, I can't help people like you." He gave her a smile that made her stunned for a second. Her heart began to race while he met her eyes.
"Make it happen soon as you become the king." She wrapped her handkerchief around his finger properly.
"It looks like you know how to take care of people. Someday, if I would be a king, would you be my right hand?"
"What? Me? Impossible." She bowed down, and added, "I accept it. will be your right hand." She knew that it was impossible for her to be his right hand, but she should do this to save her life.
After eating, she went out to the lake to have fresh air. "When am I going to tell him the truth?" She picked a stone, and threw it to make skipping stone.
"What truth?" He was behind her.
"Nothing. It was impossible for me to become your right hand when you become a king."
"I'll promise you that you'll be. You're a good person and intelligent. You can save lives." He was determined to say things like this to her, and at that moment, she couldn't control her feelings and emotions. She cried. "Did I say something wrong?"
She shook her head. "All my life... Nobody believed in me. They threw harsh words to me. You're the first person to tell me those words." She knelt in front of him. "I promise to obey your rules and be your right hand soon as you become a king."
"I'll be your king. I promise to protect you no matter what."
Prince Henry had to return to their kingdom while Prime prepared to go home too. She was a bit tired, but her heart appeared to be happy today. She said the truth. Nobody believed in her, and now she had Prince Henry. It made a difference for her because of his words. It made it to her heart, mind, and soul.
She came home late while she was riding her horse. She came to her bedroom and there was Prime, her cat sitting on its favorite place. She carressed its head gently, while looking at a blank space. She knew that would not happen, but they made a promise.
"This sounds crazy, Prime. I think I need to rest." She went to her bed, calming herself not to think about those words again, but he couldn't help it. She couldn't sleep well. "This has something to do with him. I hate it."
Her heart was rapidly racing. "My heart..." She covered her chest with her arms. "I think my heart will burst." She was scared.
Prime, the cat sat on Princess Zakia's lap. She carressed its head, and it calmed herself. She wondered if Prince Henry would like her if he knew the truth that she was Princess Zakia. "I am starting to hate myself now. What sould I do to keep my secret?"
"I know that there is nothing to hide. Secrets will be revealed in the wrong time." She hugged Prime, the cat. "This is too hard for me. What if he knew already? What if he was investigating about my identity?"
It was frightening her. The thought that his trust would break if he would knew the truth someday. "I think our promise will remain. I hope so."
She remembered how she cried in front of him. She squeezed her colds using his sleeves. She buried her face on her pillow. "This is too bad for me. If he would knew I am Princess Zakia, he would be vomitting now." She knew it was embarrassing for her.
"I can't sleep now. I should be careful any time."
Prince Henry was looking at the handkerchief. It looked familiar to him. There was a small embroided butterfly at one of its end. "I think I saw this."
He examined the smell. "It's fragrant smell. I think something is mysterious about her identity. I should find out."
Being his enemy didn't cross his mind because he knew that Prime was a good person and there was nothing to worry about. "She should be trained this time. I need to train him for the future battle if ever that time comes."
He put the handkerchief on his secret drawer inside his closet. He made it sealed so that it wouldn't be discovered by anyone. "I have to bring this handkerchief all the time starting tomorrow."
His stomach began to growl when he remembered that he didn't have dinner for tonight. It was midnight so he got midnight snacks before sleeping
. His body was tired, and his eyes were dropping due to fatigue.
