Chapter 7: CHANCE FOR SURVIVAL
ZELDA’S POV
Life is a paradox of contradicting similarities!!!
Present Day
I was walking despite the fact that I was barefoot and my feet were bleeding. There was a fog ahead but it was like I knew that I had to forge into it for whatever reason.
As I stepped into it, my leg stepped on something…or rather a part of someone.
It was the severed arm of a person and the owner of the body laid a couple of feet in front of it. Dead!
I recognized the face of the deceased even though it was battered by the side.
It was Sarah. She was one of my students.
A shrill cry tore out from my throat as I fell to the floor.
My eyes flew open as my breath struggled to even out.
My hand was desperately holding onto something but instead of letting go, I held onto it tighter.
“Zeda! It was a dream. Look at me!
Look at me! I got you!" A voice said, startling me further.
But the face that came in view was appealing.
‘Beautiful!’ My heart sang.
I blinked twice and realized that I might be going insane.
‘It is that man from before!
Oh no! He could be working with them.
How is it that I am still here?!’’
I jerked up, ready to sprint off again when he held my shoulder down with one of his hands.
His hands were covered with a pair of black gloves.
‘Why is he wearing gloves? Does he have a disease or something?!’
“I said it before, I'm not going to harm you.
I can never harm you!
No one can” He said with so much assurance in his voice.
It was the way with which he was speaking to me. No one has ever spoken to me like that in my little existence.
There was patience in his voice and amusement in his eyes. He had those special type of eyes - kind eyes. And he was staring at me - intently.
I realized my hand was still holding onto something and I was befuddled to find out that I was holding onto his other hand.
I immediately let go of his hand like something hot was poured on me.
“Sorry. I'm sorry. I…didn't realize I was uhm” I stuttered.
" It's fine!” He said.
He looked at his hand before he retracted both hands behind him.
He cleared his throat and took a step away from me.
“You have not had anything to eat yet.
Is there anything you will like to have?” He asked.
‘Food? Eaten?! That should be the last thing on my mind right now!
The children?! My dream! Oh the children!’
“For whatever reason you must have done this. Thank you!
I'm very grateful but I have to leave now. There are people that might be dying because…” I said as I leapt off the bed and fixed my legs in the in- house flops that were close to it.
"The children are safe!" He said curtly.
I paused.
“No they are not. And how did you know I was speaking about children?!
I never mentioned anything about…
Who are you?” I questioned taking a step back, my thigh grazing the bed.
"I don't think you are ready for that answer yet.
But be rest assured. Sarah, Callum, Xavier and Mike are safe.
You will be taken to them tomorrow” He said.
“No that's impossible!
I won't believe a word you say till I see them myself. Those bastards will never release them willingly” I said, standing my ground.
‘Everything was becoming more confusing?! If he is working with them, I am supposed to be tied up by now. My hands together, dangling from a rope.
I should not have woken up on such a luxurious looking bed and such a beautiful man should not be attending to me.
He told me his name before but I had not grasped it.’
" It doesn't have to be done willingly…
Falkur" He called as he turned his head to the side, his hair falling to that side of his face.
“Yes Sir"
The door opened and an equally tall man -just not as tall as the man before me - strode towards us. He looked older than the beautiful man but his walk was agile. He had his hands by both sides of him and he walked like he was in a March Pass. Brown hair and round face. He was fair to look upon.
He halted when he was about a feet behind the beautiful man.
A phablet was in his hands and he tapped on the screen. He stretched the phablet to the beautiful man and the beautiful man extended it to me with his gloved hand.
I retrieved it from him and on the screen were the children, hurriedly eating the food before them.
‘They were in a house.
A shelter over their heads and warm food for their bellies.
They were far from danger. Far from guns being pointed at their heads because of me.
Far from those men.
That much is clear!’
The sight brought tears to my eyes and I immediately went on my knees. My hands on my thighs, gripping tightly the gown I was wearing.
“Thank you Sir.
I don't know who you are or why you are doing this, but I'm grateful.
I promise to do whatever it is you want…whatever it is you will have me do!”
From my clouded view due to the tears that were falling from my eyes, I saw the cloak he was wearing lowering before me. He was squatting to face me.
Two fingers of his gloved hand lifted my face to face him.
“In great sadness, in great joy, do not make promises you might not be able to keep little bird!" He said.
‘Is that a smile on his face?’
"I know if I leave here, those men will come after me and since you have the children safe and sound, it means that you have a level of power they might not be able to challenge.
I perceive you are my best chance for survival” I said honestly.
His thumb slid the tears from both cheeks off my face.
“You are my own best chance for survival. Welcome Zelda”
