Chapter 96
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 96: Sweetness
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“No, it’s fine.”
Sonia hurriedly entered the room and sat down on a nearby sofa.
It seemed she had taken some time to prepare, as she wasn’t wearing her usual robe but a beautifully deep purple dress, giving off a more composed vibe than usual.
“What’s wrong? If there’s something, just say it.”
Perhaps due to my staring at her unfamiliar appearance, Sonia blushed slightly and spoke up.
“I just thought it was refreshing since you’re wearing different clothes than usual.”
“…Does it look weird?”
“No, it suits you.”
“Really?”
She said that, took a sip of tea placed on the table, and then showed no intention of talking or moving to another spot.
“Sorry, but could you show me the spellbook soon?”
Judging that the conversation wasn’t going to progress anytime soon, I asked her to show me the book to fulfill the purpose of my visit today.
“Y-yeah. Follow me; I’ll show you.”
As Sonia said this and stood up, I did too, and we left the room together, walking through the mansion.
During that time, the maids and butlers in the mansion looked at us with smiles, but I ignored all of it.
Ignoring their gazes, I followed her to the library deep within the mansion. When Sonia touched one of the shelves and channeled her magic, a hidden path appeared, leading further inside.
“This way.”
Following her through the dimly lit path, we arrived at a place filled with neatly arranged magic books and what seemed like theses.
“This is amazing.”
“Right? I was really surprised the first time I saw it too. Father told me I could read whatever is here, so feel free to read as much as you want.”
“Thank you.”
Sonia took a nearby book and sat down on a chair in the corner, beginning to read it.
I browsed the bookshelf, picked a few interesting titles, and sat across from Sonia to read as well.
This scene strangely resembled our future selves, where we often conversed about books and magic while facing each other.
However, the atmosphere between us now was completely different, with only the sound of pages turning quietly resonating in the room.
After a while, I found joy in reading the unfamiliar spells and theories, even about the lost ways of using magic power, which lifted my spirits just a bit.
(Amazing. If I could intentionally absorb natural magic into my body and convert it into my own magic instantly, would it give me nearly infinite magic power?)
Typically, to recover magic power after using it, one has to slowly absorb natural magic from the air and transform it into the appropriate form within their body, which usually takes around half a day to a day, depending on the total magic amount.
However, if this theory could be realized, while the total magic amount wouldn’t increase, I could use magic without worrying about my magic power.
(This sounds worth a try.)
It seems considerable advanced magic manipulation would be required, but I enjoyed acquiring such skills, so I decided to test it later when I had time.
Continuing to read as many books as I could until time permitted, I finally turned to the last place I was curious about.
“Sonia, come here for a second.”
“What is it?”
I called Sonia over to a spot on the floor sealed with multiple layers of magic, took her hand, and pulled a knife from storage.
“Sorry, but could I cut the tip of your finger? There seems to be something here.”
“…Alright.”
Sonia hesitated a bit but agreed quickly, so I cut the tip of her finger with the knife and let a drop of her blood fall to the floor.
Then, the spot where the blood touched shone with magic, and a short while later, a path leading underground appeared.
“What is this?”
“Let’s go check it out.”
We slowly descended the stairs to find ourselves in a study-like space with just a small table, a chair, a lamp, and a shelf.
“I’ve never seen a place like this.”
“Yeah. The entrance was protected by pretty advanced magic, so probably no one ever noticed it.”
Indeed, the entrance had been secured with now-unused magic and original techniques.
To open that entrance, one had to be a descendant of the first sage like Sonia and must demonstrate having a specified amount of magic power among their bloodline.
Sonia picked up a notebook that was on the desk and began to flip through the pages slowly.
I also grabbed a book from a nearby shelf, which looked pristine, possibly due to preservation magic.
However, for some reason, I couldn’t open that book. I focused my magic power to analyze the spell cast on it.
(Quite thoroughly protected.)
This book was guarded by all attributes of magic, and to open it, one needed to be able to use all attributes of magic at a high level, and everything had to be combined and channeled into the book at a predetermined wavelength to unlock it.
(Tch. I can’t open it with my current abilities.)
I attempted to open the book, but it didn’t budge with my present skills.
Just from this, I could tell how highly skilled the previous sage was, and I was quite curious about what was written in a book sealed by such a powerful individual.
I placed the book in storage to conceal it from Sonia and pondered the unexpected harvest, rethinking my future plans.
(For now, I should act as planned. I’ll open this book after I gain more strength.)
“…What’s this about?”
While I was contemplating my future plans, I heard Sonia’s confused voice from behind as she read another notebook, so I turned around.
“What’s wrong?”
I approached her, peering over her shoulder at the notebook she had been reading, where the hidden truth was written.
“If this is true, then the one targeting me was…”
“Yeah. So? How will you handle this truth now that you know?”
“What do you mean…?”
“Will you expose this secret to the world, or will you pretend you never saw it and forget? You have the right to choose.”
“What do you think I should do?”
“Who knows? It’s none of my business. You decide.”
“I… will keep this secret. I don’t want to cause chaos for everyone in the country because of this. I don’t want to destroy this peaceful country we have now.”
“I see. If that’s what you want, then that’s fine.”
Hearing her answer, I thought it quite fitting for her, but at the same time, I felt a bit disappointed.
(Even if that’s fine for you, the other party might not think so. You’re lacking in that regard.)
Even if she tried to hide this secret, it wouldn’t mean they would let it go.
In fact, Sonia had already been targeted before she learned this secret, and perhaps due to her agitation, she seemed unaware of that fact.
After this, Sonia returned the notebook to the desk, and we retraced our steps back out of the basement.
