The White Mist Forbidden Zone: I Have the X-ray vision

Chapter 10: Why were they there

Irvin thought for a moment, then logged into a special website and entered Anthony's information. Although the information was incomplete, with a few key details and some filtering, he quickly found Anthony's records.

The electronic network in the 23rd century was highly advanced, and much information could be found, though only certain personnel had access. Ordinary monster hunters would need to apply for access.

Given his position, Irvin wasn't one to take Anthony's word at face value; some things needed verification.

However, when he saw the information on the screen, he was taken aback.

The basic information matched Anthony's initial responses exactly, but there was no data after the White Mist Zone appeared seven years ago.

Clearly, Anthony had left no trace in the cities over the past seven years.

Of course, this alone didn't fully prove Anthony's story, but the last entry in the records detailed the incident between the rescue team and Anthony.

On the third day after the rescue team entered the danger zone, they found Anthony and two other survivors in an abandoned supermarket. But when the rescue team tried to take them out, Anthony was blocked by an invisible wall.

Anyone else could pass through, but not him.

Since the White Mist Zone appeared, strange things like this had been happening around the world every day. Anthony's experience, while bizarre, wasn't unique.

The rescue team had tried various methods, but nothing worked.

At that time, it was the third day after the White Mist Zone appeared, and monsters were rampant, with constant battles.

There were many others like Anthony who were trapped, and in the end, the rescue team left him with some supplies before leaving.

Irvin hadn't expected this backstory.

Seven years ago, Anthony was only ten years old. Surviving until now was quite an achievement.

But in a chaotic world, many had suffered even worse fates than Anthony.

Taking a deep breath, Irvin said, "Have Amy test his abilities to see if there are any issues. If there are, detain him. If not, let him go."

Whether it was coincidence or not, as long as they weren't directly connected, it wouldn't affect them.

Irvin rubbed his temples; the battle yesterday had taken a toll on him, and he was feeling very weak. But he couldn't rest just yet.

Compared to this uncertain espers, there was something more important that needed addressing.

Bob and the espers crystal were still unaccounted for!

A hundred and fifty kilometers south of Zone 22 was a small town named Kasnia Town, with a population of less than two million.

At this moment, the military hospital in Kasnia Town had its surgery room lights flashing red, with many doctors and soldiers busy at work.

On one of the hospital beds, Alan slowly opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was the white ceiling and bright lights.

"Reporting, the old man is awake!"

"Quick, notify the officer!"

"Doctor, doctor!"

...

Many people were shouting, and the surroundings were chaotic.

Alan's consciousness gradually returned, and after a long moment of thought, he realized he was in a hospital.

It had been seven years—he had almost forgotten what a hospital looked like.

Soon, the door opened, and a burly middle-aged man walked in.

"How are you feeling, sir?"

Alan shook his head. "Not too bad, I'll survive. How long was I unconscious?"

"Less than a day."

"Did you see my granddaughter?"

"Your granddaughter? Do you mean the young girl around seventeen or eighteen years old with a ponytail?" Grant asked.

"Yes, that's her. How is she?"

Grant paused for a moment before replying, "Your granddaughter is alive, but there's a slight problem."

Alan was taken aback. "What do you mean?"

"When we found you, she was frozen in ice. The strange thing is, she hadn't died, so we need you to tell us what happened before you lost consciousness."

As he spoke, Grant pulled out a black token engraved with the character " Watchmen"

Seeing this, Alan immediately understood the man's identity!

After the White Mist Zones appeared, the Normandy Kingdom organized an espers army—a special force with a unique mission.

They were tasked with suppressing the White Mist Zones and defending the cities of the Normandy Kingdom, silently guarding the nation for two hundred years amidst the chaos of the world.

Their code name was "Watchmen!"

To ignite hope in the face of despair;

To guard the dawn in the darkness!

That was the oath of the Watchmen!

Alan nodded, speaking haltingly, "Yesterday, we were driving out of the danger zone when we encountered monsters..."

"Wait a minute!" Grant raised an eyebrow. "You were in the eastern part of White Mist Zone No. 22 yesterday, right?"

Alan nodded.

"That area has been abandoned since the White Mist Zone appeared seven years ago. Why were you there?"

For ordinary people to be in a danger zone was already extremely rare.

But not only were they there, they were in an old town long since abandoned—there were too many questions.

In response, Alan calmly said, "We've been living there the whole time."

Huh?

Grant was a bit stunned. "What do you mean?"

Alan's mood turned somber. "When the White Mist Zone appeared, my grandson developed a special condition that prevented him from leaving. So, Angela and I stayed behind to accompany him. But as I got older, I couldn't hold out anymore. I used to be able to help, but now I'm just a burden. So, they finally decided to have Angela take me out of the danger zone and bring me here."

Grant stared intently at Alan, finding his story hard to believe. But he couldn't entirely dismiss it either.

"Alright, let's leave it at that for now. Sir, please tell me what happened yesterday."

"Oh, where was I? I remember now. We were being chased by monsters, and just when we were on the brink of death, a blond soldier saved us. How is he now?"

"Don't worry, he's alive. Go on."

"That's good. The officer saved us, but he wasn't in great shape himself—he was covered in wounds, and there was still a flying monster chasing him. Then, the officer suddenly gave my granddaughter a crystal. When Angela touched the crystal, something happened, and then I lost consciousness."

Grant frowned. Although this old man didn't seem like a bad person, his story was very suspicious.

The eastern part of White Mist Zone No. 22 was a danger zone with no towns. Why were they there?

But now wasn't the time to delve into that. Grant asked, "Sir, can you describe the crystal you mentioned?"

"That? I was driving, so I didn't get a good look. I only know it was about the size of a thumb and glowed blue. Oh, the officer said that if we took it to the safe zone, we'd be rewarded."

Upon hearing this, Grant's breathing became more rapid. Alan didn't understand the significance of the crystal, but Grant did.

It was an espers crystal—a treasure that could allow ordinary people to awaken as espers!

"Alright, I understand the basic situation. Sir, I need to confirm some information with you. Please cooperate. Name?"

"Alan."

"Age?"

...

A moment later, Grant left with the information Alan had provided. He didn't report it immediately; instead, he first went to verify Alan's identity.

In this era, anything strange could happen.

This matter was of great importance and couldn't be handled carelessly!
