The White Mist Forbidden Zone: I Have the X-ray vision

Chapter 21: I’m not good at that

Anthony surrendered to the charms of the female "ruffians." After much hesitation, he decided to stay. His ID card hadn't been replaced yet, and he was still underage, which meant most legitimate jobs wouldn't hire him. Besides, he didn't have any special skills, and the survival skills he did possess were useless in town. Finding a job that provided food and lodging was already a good deal.

The work hours were from 8 PM to 2 AM, six hours a day—not too tiring. Of course, Anthony wasn't officially on the job yet; he needed to undergo some basic training first.

By 6 PM, the staff of the Red Romance Bar started arriving, and when the ladies saw Anthony, they immediately surrounded him.

"Anthony, come over here; I'll teach you."

"Anthony, can you help me with my clothes?"

"Anthony, how old are you? Do you have a girlfriend?"

"Anthony, my zipper is stuck. Can you help me with it?"

Not far away, the male staff and security guards watched, seething with envy and jealousy. When they saw the look of reluctance on Anthony's face, they nearly spat blood. If you don't want to, let me take your place!

Surrounded by what felt like a pack of man-eating woman, Anthony was terrified. He'd killed monsters in dangerous areas without fear, but now he was afraid. After being tormented for two hours, Anthony finally memorized his tasks.

Since his awakening, Anthony had noticed that his eyesight had become extraordinary, and his memory had also improved significantly.

As the sky darkened, the neon lights flickered on, signaling the start of the city's nightlife. This town, densely populated, wasn't much different from a small city. When the bar opened, a large crowd poured in. The lights and sound system were activated, and the pulsating music energized the entire place.

At first, Anthony felt nervous, but soon he realized that the scenes he had sex imagined from certain novels and magazines weren't happening. Although the bar was lively and noisy, everyone was well-behaved. Despite the chaotic times, the Normandy Kingdom remained a society governed by law.

Not even espers could break the rules. When espers first appeared, the Normandy Kingdom did experience some turmoil, but in 2050, the United Nations passed laws that clearly defined the regulations for espers. Over a century of refinement had made the regulations robust—while they might not apply in danger zones, no one dared to act recklessly in safe areas. The Watchmen, who protected national security, had the authority to execute criminals on the spot.

Moreover, the patrons here seemed to be wealthy and refined, dressed in clean clothes and exhibiting elegant manners. They were here to drink, dance, and relax. So, the scenes Anthony had feared didn't occur.

"Anthony, it's busy tonight. Can you help out? This is the drink for table seven," a bartender said.

Anthony nodded, took the tray, and walked over to table seven, where two men and two women were chatting and laughing. One of them was Belinda, the woman who had assigned him his tasks. He had thought Belinda was a manager, but she was also working as a hostess.

At that moment, Belinda was pouring a drink for one of the men, speaking in a slightly coquettish tone, "Director Brooks, it's been days since you've visited."

Brooks downed his drink in one gulp and sighed. "Ah, don't mention it. Something happened a few days ago, and the entire military district was on lockdown. I had to work overtime for two days straight. It wasn't just us; all the Watchmen were on 24-hour alert."

Belinda looked surprised. "What happened that required all the Watchmen to work overtime?"

"Apparently, a demon hunter was severely injured and brought back. You've heard of demon hunters, right? They're a level above Watchmen. And there was also a little girl who was found frozen, yet she was still alive. She's still in a coma, though. But our clearance isn't high enough, so we don't know the details."

"For the people, you work so hard. Do you want me to arrange a foot massage for you later?" Belinda asked with a teasing smile.

"Hahaha, you really know how to take care of me," Brooks laughed.

As they chatted, Anthony quietly placed the drink on the table and turned to leave. He hadn't been interested in their conversation, but he paused when he heard the mention of demon hunters. The people who had taken him out of the White Mist Zone were demon hunters, and he knew that even powerful individuals like them could get severely injured. Demon hunting was indeed a high-risk job.

Brooks and his companions didn't notice Anthony as they continued their conversation. Since they didn't need him to stay and serve, Anthony simply left.

A little later, Anthony delivered a few more drinks, and at one point, a group of well-dressed women took an interest in him.

"Waiter, are you new here? I haven't seen you before," one of the women asked.

Anthony nodded and replied honestly, "Today is my first day on the job."

"Oh?" The women's eyes lit up. "Do you know that Red Romance Bar waiters also offer companion services?"

Anthony could tell from their looks what they meant, so he straightforwardly said, "Yes, but I'm not good at that."

One of the women casually said, "What's so hard about it? It's just chatting."

Anthony was initially going to refuse, but when the woman pulled out a red bill, he hesitated.

At 2 AM, as the lights and sound system were turned off one by one, the Red Romance Bar finally closed for the night.

"Anthony, I'll be back to see you another day," a tipsy woman said, reluctantly saying goodbye to Anthony as she left. She didn't forget to run her hand over his as she left, making Anthony's face stiffen as he awkwardly waved goodbye. Meanwhile, with his other hand, he discreetly pocketed the four red bills he had earned that day.

Even though the job made him uncomfortable, he had to admit it paid well. At this rate, in a few more days, he might have enough to buy a phone.

"Anthony, not bad at all. I didn't expect you to get the hang of this so quickly on your first day," Belinda teased as she appeared out of nowhere and threw her arm around Anthony's shoulder.

Anthony tensed up slightly and then asked, "Sister Belinda, where will I be staying?"

Earlier, they had promised to provide accommodation.

"What's the rush? Don't worry, I've arranged everything for you. There are several rooms on the second floor, and I'm right next door. If you miss me, you can come over anytime," Belinda said with a playful smile.

Anthony quickly made his escape, leaving Belinda laughing behind him.
