TO BE SAVED

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

"Do you think she'll wake up soon?" The voice said.

"I pray so because we have been taking care of her for so long now and I'm beginning to lose hope." Said a different voice.

I've been hearing these voices a lot of times but this is the only time that they are this clear. The other times all I could hear were muffled sounds and when I tried to make out what they were, I could go blank and slip into the darkness that I've been in for as far as I can remember.

But today, those distant voices were clearer and they wish I would wake up. Wake up? Was I in a coma? Then it all dawned on me and my mind went back to where it all started.

*Flashback*

"Don't be out for too long!" Mom shouted after me as I was making my way out of the house.

Just outside the door was my best friend Maggie who was waiting for me so that we can go into the market place and get some essential items for the house.

The market was so lively and loud when we got there, and as soon as we entered the busiest part of it, we began our grocery shopping.

"Look Litha! That woman is looking at you." Maggie said to me.

I tried to follow where her eyes were pointing to and a frown found its way on my face, indeed a woman dressed in a long furry coat and a shawl covering her head was looking at me intently and at first I thought that maybe she was looking past me but she wasn't. I kept staring at her thinking she'd feel uncomfortable and break the eye contact but she didn't and that creeped me out.

" Why is she still looking at me?" I asked Maggie who stopped paying attention to the woman and was now focused on the sandals that were being shown to her by a sales man.

" I don't know either, but that's very weird. If she has something to say to you she should at least reach out, right?"

" Right." I mumbled out.

" Let's go and pass by her, maybe she'll do or say something" she suggested and I nodded.

We started moving towards the woman with the intent of just passing her by and as we did, the woman held my arm and whispered.

" For darkness to exist, Light has to be present. And that darkness is closing in on all of us, save us." And with that, she let go of my arm.

I stood there thinking about what she said and did not even realize when she left. I tried looking both ways with hopes of seeing her and ask her what she meant but I couldn't see her. Maggie who was with me asked me what she was saying to me and I explained everything. Together we tried looking for the woman but we couldn't find her and the people we asked said they haven't seen anyone fitting that description.

We then left the market and started heading home but my mind was occupied with what she said and what she meant by it. Most importantly why did she say that to me.

"Don't tell me you're still thinking about what that woman said?" Maggie asked me.

"I don't know, it's just hard to get past the fact that she said that to me, I mean she could have said it to you but she chose me. Why?" I asked.

" Honestly, I don't know. And don't think about it too much, for all we know she might be a mad woman or a con woman that pulls up these kind of tricks so that they can charge people later when they find them." She explained and I just nodded my head still not convinced but I smiled just to make it look like I was.

We then started talking about something else and in no time we reached my doorstep and I opened the door and we both got in.

We dropped the groceries and I discovered that Mom was not around so I figured she went to the medicine shop she was talking about in the morning.

" Let me drop these off at home and also do some chores. I'll see you later girl!" Maggie said as she was lifting her grocery bag.

" Alright lady, I'll see you later." I said and gave her a hug.

I know I shouldn't be thinking about that woman but I just couldn't help it. Should I perhaps tell Mom about it, I thought. Maybe it meant nothing, I convinced myself.

*Present*

"Audrine! Audrine! Come look, her fingers moved!" One of the voices I heard last time said.

"Oh my goodness! Maybe she's coming back to us Charity!" The other voice said with excitement in her voice.

"Do you think we should let him know?" Charity asked.

" Let's wait until she's fully awake. We don't want to give him false hopes, he has been waiting for so long for her." Audrine explained.

" I guess you're right." Charity said.

He? Who were they referring to? And what are they talking about?. I asked no one in particular. I tried opening my eyes again for the hundredth time but I couldn't so I kept on trying and trying until the darkness engulfed me again.
