Chapter 17: SHADOWS AND SUPPORT
Ari noticed how sad and quiet Mia had been lately. The once lively and cheerful Mia now spent most of her time locked up in her room. She stopped visiting the studio, which was unusual for her. Sometimes, when she came out for breakfast or dinner, her eyes were swollen and red, clear signs that she had been crying.
Ari felt a growing concern for her sister. Whenever she asked Mia what was wrong, Mia would avoid the topic, shrugging off Ari's inquiries with vague answers. It was getting out of hand, and Ari knew she needed to find out what was going on.
Determined to help her sister, Ari decided to ask Max about it. She also told Leo to see if he could get any information from Max. Despite their efforts, Max remained tight-lipped, simply telling them to ask Mia directly.
Feeling frustrated, Ari decided to try one more time to get Mia to open up. She found Mia in her room, sitting by the window and staring out at the garden. Ari approached her gently, sitting down beside her.
"Mia, please talk to me," Ari said softly. "I can see you're hurting, and I want to help. What's going on?"
Mia remained silent for a few moments, her eyes brimming with tears. Finally, she turned to her sister and let out a shaky sigh. "It's Max," she whispered. "We broke up."
Ari's heart ached for her sister. She put her arm around Mia's shoulders, pulling her into a comforting hug. "I'm so sorry, Mia. What happened?"
Mia explained everything—the jealousy, the arguments, and Max's decision to end their relationship. Ari listened quietly, letting Mia pour out her heart. When Mia finished, Ari held her sister tighter, trying to provide as much comfort as she could.
"You know, Mia," Ari began gently, "locking yourself up in your room won't help. You need to go out, breathe in some fresh air, and start moving on. It's not the end of the world."
Mia sniffled, wiping away her tears. "But it hurts so much, Ari. I don't know how to move on."
Ari gave her a reassuring smile. "I know it hurts, but you're stronger than you think. Remember what you love the most—dancing. Focus on your dance career and leave Max behind. Don't change yourself for anyone. Be yourself, and if you happen to dance together, keep it strictly professional. Dance with your feelings caged somewhere safe."
Mia nodded, her eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and determination. "I’ll try, Ari. Thank you."
Ari hugged her sister again. "That's the spirit. You'll get through this, Mia. And I'll be here every step of the way."
Over the next few days, Mia started to take Ari's advice to heart. She began spending more time outside her room, going for walks in the garden and slowly returning to her old routines. She even mustered the courage to visit the studio, although the memories of Max still lingered.
Ari was always there to support her, encouraging Mia to channel her emotions into her dancing. The studio, once a place of joy and inspiration, became Mia's refuge. She poured her heart into her routines, letting the music and movement help her heal.
One afternoon, as Mia practiced her dance steps, Ari watched from the sidelines. She could see the pain still etched on Mia's face, but there was also a spark of resilience. Mia was fighting to reclaim her happiness, one step at a time.
Ari walked over to her sister, giving her a thumbs-up. "You're doing great, Mia. Keep going."
Mia smiled, her eyes shining with gratitude. "Thanks, Ari. I couldn't have done it without you."
As Mia continued to dance, Ari felt a sense of hope. She knew it would take time, but she believed Mia would come out of this stronger. And no matter what, Ari would be there, supporting her sister every step of the way.
