Toman's Black Cat

Chapter 101: Mikey admits what he did

Mikey's POV

Mikey waited for Kakucho's return, conflicting emotions running through his mind at what he had seen and heard about Y/n. She had done what he hoped she would so she would be safe, but like him, she couldn't let go. Like him, she's broken.

It doesn't bother me. It doesn't matter.

His mind immediately went to the image of the lion and white tiger plushie. He had looked at her phone before just to be devious, and he saw his contact name for the first time. He remembered smiling like an idiot before putting it back when she walked in the room to bring him dorayaki.

Lion King.

He walked to the kitchen, grabbing dorayaki like he usually did, holding the same image of her smiling face shining bright in his mind. His expressions didn't change, but he found himself falling deeper into memories he knew he needed to let go of.

I told her that to protect her. Not to hurt her even more.

He sent Kakucho, knowing she cared for him and would talk to him since he was never a member of the Tokyo Manji Gang. His stomach turned sour at how she greeted him. His mind went wild with the many times her smile shined as bright as the sun when they were together. He had been keeping tabs on her over the years, knowing that since she was like Takemitchy, she would most likely change when she came back this day in the future.

He knew that she came back and yet, she stayed in her condo, not trying to reach out to anyone at all. He sent Kakucho, calling it a mission. Being a leader of a criminal organization and being known as a cold-blooded murderer, he knew he wouldn't be asked any questions as to why. He sent Kakucho with a mic and camera, hoping to see…

Mikey tossed the rest of his dorayaki, quickly losing his appetite. He can't go back. His dark impulse would put her and everyone else he loved at risk. That's why he told Takemitchy never to come find him.

Kakucho entered the room silently, waiting for his next assignment with a calm façade. Mikey simply glanced his way, giving a short nod and putting his hands back in his pockets to walk away.

"Why is she like this?"

Mikey stopped dead in his tracks at Kakucho's bold question. He's killed for a lot of reasons, but this one he'll let go for now.

He knows I could kill him. He really cares about her.

"I called her a slut when we were teens." He looked over his shoulder to make eye contact with Kakucho. "Leave her alone." With that, he walked off, ending the conversation before he could be asked or reminded of anymore painful memories.
