Chapter 161: Hanabi Hyuga
The morning sun rose, casting its golden light over Konoha. As always, I began my day with the usual warmup and training. The crisp air invigorated me, and the sounds of birds chirping filled the atmosphere with tranquility.
Last night had been nothing short of memorable, filled with joy and laughter. The love and warmth I received from everyone made me feel complete.
As I moved through my routine, I couldn't help but reflect on how far things had come. This village, my friends, my family—all of it was worth every effort.
"Another day, another step forward," I muttered to myself, pushing harder with each exercise. Today would be another chance to grow stronger and make the most of everything I'd built.
As I wrapped up my morning exercises, I couldn't help but notice how much the village had changed. The people around me, my friends, and even those who once seemed indifferent had adopted a newfound drive. Many had taken up training as part of their daily lives, following in my footsteps from way back.
Even Shikamaru, who used to embody laziness, had shifted. While he still retained his laid-back attitude, there was a noticeable seriousness in his demeanor now. It wasn't overwhelming, but enough to show that he understood the weight of responsibility and the need to grow stronger.
"Guess the old Shikamaru is evolving," I thought, watching him strategize even during his training. The change in his character was probably influenced by the environment—surrounded by people striving to improve themselves, it was only natural to be swept up in the momentum.
"Alright, let's keep this up," I said, clapping my hands. "Time to make the most of today!" The others nodded, their determination matching my own. It was moments like these that made me proud of how far we'd all come.
As the sparring session began, the rhythmic sounds of punches, kicks, and clashing weapons filled the training grounds. Everyone was putting in their best efforts, including me, as we pushed each other to improve. Despite the lively energy, my thoughts wandered back to last night and the conversation with Hinata.
Last Night
The atmosphere at home had been joyful, with everyone laughing, sharing stories, and enjoying the warmth of each other's company. But amidst the lively chatter, I suddenly felt like something—or someone—was missing.
That's when it hit me: Hanabi.
Curious, I approached Hinata, who was sitting near the fireplace with a soft smile on her face. "Hinata," I began, crouching beside her, "where is Hanabi? Why isn't she here with us?"
Hinata's smile faltered slightly, and she let out a small sigh before looking at me. "Ah, Naruto... it's your fault," she said, her tone gentle but tinged with disappointment.
As her words sunk in, I blinked in confusion. "My fault? What did I do?" I asked, genuinely puzzled.
She sighed, her tone a mix of exasperation and amusement. "Naruto, you've been so busy with everything—the summit, the missions, and training—that you completely forgot about Hanabi. You promised her you'd train with her a few weeks ago, remember?"
My eyes widened as I realized my mistake. "Oh... I did promise her, didn't I?"
She nodded, crossing her arms. "She was so excited about it, but when you didn't show up or even check on her, she got upset. That's probably why she didn't come to see you today."
I scratched the back of my head, guilt creeping in. "I didn't mean to forget... Things just got hectic. I'll make it up to her, I promise."
She smiled softly. "You should. Hanabi really looks up to you, Naruto. She's been working hard, hoping to impress you."
That hit me harder than I expected. Hanabi was just a kid, but she had a strong will and determination that reminded me of myself at her age. "Alright," I said with resolve. "Tomorrow, I'll apologize and spend the whole day training with her. I won't let her down again."
Hinata nodded approvingly. "That's more like it. Just make sure you follow through this time, okay?"
"Of course," I said with a grin. But deep down, I was already planning how to make it up to Hanabi. I owed her that much, and more.
Back to the Present
As I finished sparring, I resolved to find Hanabi later today and apologize. I needed to make things right with her. After all, she was family in her own way, and I couldn't bear the thought of her feeling left out because of my carelessness.
"Alright, time to make things right," I murmured to myself, determination filling my heart as I prepared for the day ahead.
After finishing breakfast, I set out toward the Hyuga clan compound. The crisp morning air filled my lungs as I walked, and my thoughts were focused on how I would approach Hanabi. I knew she wasn't the type to sulk quietly or let her feelings fester; if she was upset with me, I'd hear about it the moment we met.
Hanabi had always been a force of nature. Her personality was the exact opposite of Hinata's: where Hinata was shy and reserved, Hanabi was bold and full of energy. She carried herself with a confidence that was impossible to ignore and had a sharp tongue to match her quick wit.
And, of course, she loved teasing me. Whether it was poking fun at my antics or challenging me to some impromptu sparring, Hanabi always found a way to keep things lively whenever we crossed paths.
As I approached the Hyuga compound, I mentally prepared myself for Hanabi's sharp remarks. Unlike Hinata, who greeted me with soft smiles and warm words, Hanabi always found a way to keep me on my toes.
The guards at the entrance recognized me instantly and allowed me through with a polite bow. Walking through the traditional corridors of the Hyuga estate, I soon spotted Hanabi in the training grounds, her movements swift and precise as she practiced her Gentle Fist technique.
"Hanabi!" I called out, waving to grab her attention.
She stopped mid-move, turned to me, and raised an eyebrow. "Oh, look who finally remembered I exist," she said with a smirk, crossing her arms.
I chuckled nervously. "Okay, I deserve that. I messed up, and I'm here to apologize. I didn't mean to forget about our training session. Things got... hectic."
She tapped her chin, pretending to think. "Hectic, huh? You mean you were busy spending time with my sister and all those other girls while leaving me out?"
I winced. "Ouch, you're not holding back, are you?"
Hanabi grinned mischievously. "Why should I? You've got some making up to do, big shot."
"I know, and I'm here to do just that," I said, stepping closer. "How about we spend the entire day training together? Anything you want to practice, I'm all yours."
Her eyes sparkled with excitement, but she quickly masked it with a skeptical expression. "The whole day? You're not going to run off halfway for another 'important mission,' are you?"
I placed a hand over my heart. "I swear on my ninja way. Today, it's just you and me."
Hanabi studied me for a moment before breaking into a genuine smile. "Alright, Uzumaki. Let's see if you can keep up with me. But don't think I'm going easy on you!"
I laughed. "Bring it on, Hanabi. Let's see if you can keep me on my toes!"
With that, our training session began, and I could already tell this was going to be a day full of challenges and, knowing Hanabi, plenty of teasing too.
As I shifted into the Hyuga clan's signature Gentle Fist stance, I could see the spark of excitement in Hanabi's eyes. She smirked, clearly enjoying the idea of me attempting her family's fighting style.
"Ready whenever you are, Naruto," she said, her tone playful but her stance perfect.
We began to circle each other, the air charged with focus and anticipation. I made the first move, a quick strike aimed at her shoulder. Hanabi deflected it effortlessly, her movements fluid and precise.
"Not bad," she said, countering with a flurry of strikes aimed at my chest.
Even though she was five years younger than me, her strength and technique were undeniable. Each strike carried a precision that could disrupt the chakra flow if it landed. I had to stay sharp, blocking and dodging while trying to adapt to the Hyuga style on the fly.
"You're pretty good, Hanabi," I said, grinning as I narrowly avoided one of her palm strikes. "But don't forget—I learn fast!"
I mirrored her movements, attempting to counter her attacks with the same fluidity she displayed. She raised an eyebrow, impressed but not intimidated.
"Not bad for a non-Hyuga," she teased, launching a spinning kick that I just barely dodged.
The sparring session continued, each of us testing the other's limits. Hanabi's fiery spirit was evident in every strike, and I couldn't help but admire her determination. She wasn't holding back, and neither was I.
As the sparring went on, I realized how much she had grown—not just in skill but in strength and confidence. She was a true Hyuga prodigy, and it was clear that she took her training seriously.
"You're amazing, Hanabi," I said between breaths, stepping back to reassess.
She smirked, her confidence as fiery as ever. "Don't think flattery is going to save you, Naruto."
With that, she surged forward again, and I met her head-on, ready to give her the sparring match she deserved.
