Transmigrated As A Dual Cultivator

Chapter 3: The Depths of the Forest

The Depths of the Forest

Xiao Feng moved through the dense forest, his long white hair flowing behind him like a ghostly veil. The trees here were ancient, their trunks thick and gnarled, their branches stretching high into the heavens. The undergrowth crackled under his light steps, but no sound escaped beyond that, his movements eerily silent.

He wasn't in awe of the forest's beauty. Instead, his mind was focused on his surroundings, scanning for any signs of danger—or opportunity.

It wasn't long before he encountered his first challenge. A group of small beasts emerged from the underbrush, their glowing red eyes locked onto him. They were low-level creatures, likely at the Origin Realm 1st or 2nd Stage, with twisted bodies resembling a mix of wolves and lizards. Their scales glinted in the dappled sunlight, and their low growls reverberated through the air.

A smirk spread across Xiao Feng's face. "Finally, some action."

The Fight Begins

One of the beasts lunged at him, its claws swiping through the air with surprising speed. Xiao Feng didn't move to dodge. Instead, he raised his hand, activating Soul Absorption.

The beast's claw struck his palm, but instead of tearing through flesh, it seemed to dissolve, the energy within it siphoned away. The creature let out a pained howl as its qi was drained, its body collapsing to the ground, lifeless.

The other beasts hesitated for a moment, sensing something was wrong.

Xiao Feng chuckled. "What's the matter? Don't tell me you're scared already."

He darted forward, his movements swift and precise. Another beast lunged, and Xiao Feng sidestepped effortlessly, his palm glowing with dark energy as he struck its side. The creature's body convulsed, its qi rapidly absorbed.

Within moments, the fight was over. The small pack of beasts lay scattered around him, their lifeless forms a testament to his power.

As their energy flowed into him, Xiao Feng felt a subtle increase in his own strength. It wasn't much, but it was something.

"Too easy," he muttered, wiping his hands on his robe. He glanced around, disappointed by the lack of challenge.

Disappointment in the World

As he ventured deeper into the forest, Xiao Feng's frustration grew. In the game, this world had been a constant battlefield. Enemies appeared at every turn, each fight more exhilarating than the last. But here? The forest was quiet, almost peaceful, save for the occasional weak beast that posed no real threat.

"It's nothing like the game," he muttered under his breath. "Where are the sect disciples trying to prove themselves? The rogue cultivators fighting for treasure? The endless battles that made this world exciting?"

But deep down, he understood the truth. This wasn't a game. It was a living, breathing world, one that didn't cater to his desire for excitement. Here, strength was everything. Without power, he was just another insignificant speck in a vast universe.

"This world may not hand me battles on a silver platter," he said to himself, his voice cold and resolute. "But power rules here, just like in the game. If I want the excitement I crave, I'll have to take it for myself."

The Girl in the Clearing

His musings were interrupted when he stumbled upon a small clearing. At its center lay a girl, her body crumpled and covered in blood. Her robes were torn, revealing wounds that seeped crimson onto the forest floor. Her chest rose and fell in shallow breaths, and her face, though pale and gaunt, was undeniably beautiful.

Long black hair spilled around her like a dark halo, and her delicate features were marred only by the streaks of blood on her cheeks. Her aura was faint, barely perceptible, as though she was teetering on the edge of death.

Xiao Feng approached her, his silver eyes cold and calculating. He felt no pity for the girl, no urge to save her. In his eyes, she was just another casualty in a brutal world.

But curiosity tugged at him. Who was she? How had she ended up in such a state? And more importantly, could she be of use to him?

"System," he said aloud. "Is there any way to save her?"

A moment later, the system's familiar voice echoed in his mind.

[System Notification]

The girl is critically injured. Without intervention, she will die within moments.

Host may save her using the skill Dual Cultivation. Engaging in Dual Cultivation will stabilize her condition, restore her vitality, and grant both host and the partner a boost in cultivation potential.

Xiao Feng's expression remained neutral as he considered the system's words. He didn't feel any particular urge to save the girl, but the mention of a cultivation boost piqued his interest.

"She's dying anyway," he said to himself, his tone indifferent. "Might as well make use of her."

He knelt beside the girl, placing a hand on her forehead. Her skin was ice-cold, and her breathing was faint.

"Let's see if this works," he muttered.
