Chapter 9: Unbelievable Bond

Unbelievable Bond

Arya stood a few steps away, her sword still in hand. Her eyes widened as she watched the scene unfold. The legendary nine-tailed fox—an apex predator feared and revered in legends—allowed Dani to approach, treat its wound, and even name it.

She tightened her grip on the hilt of her sword, her mind racing.

"This can't be real," she muttered under her breath. "How did he...?"

Arya had heard stories of nine-tailed foxes, creatures that were said to be untamable and ferociously loyal only to themselves. And yet, before her eyes, this young man—someone she'd thought of as just another survivor—had done the impossible.

The fox, now named Emma, seemed completely at ease beside Dani, its tails swaying gently as if it had found its place.

Arya took a deep breath, trying to steady her thoughts. "Alright," she called out, breaking the silence. "If you're done bonding with your... companion, we still have a job to do."

Hunting Together

The trio—Dani, Arya, and Emma—continued their hunt. Dani's Mind's Eye skill proved invaluable as they encountered more beasts, ranging from clawed scavengers to hulking brutes.

"That one's weak in the abdomen," Dani advised, pointing to a lumbering beast with thick, rock-like armor on its back.

Arya didn't hesitate. With a swift strike, she pierced its vulnerable underbelly, ending the fight in seconds.

Emma played her part as well, her agility and sharp instincts allowing her to corner and incapacitate smaller creatures with ease. Dani watched in awe as the fox moved with grace and precision, as though it had been hunting alongside them for years.

By the time they finished, they had gathered enough meat to last the survivors in the cave several days.

Returning to the Cave

The journey back was quieter, though the atmosphere felt lighter. Dani carried his share of the meat, Arya led the way, and Emma trotted alongside Dani, her presence a constant reassurance.

As the cave came into view, Arya glanced at Dani, her expression unreadable. "You're full of surprises, you know that?"

Dani chuckled nervously. "I'm just lucky, I guess."

Arya shook her head. "No one gets that lucky."

They entered the cave to a chorus of gasps and murmurs. The survivors stared in awe at the haul of meat—and at Emma, who followed Dani faithfully. Dani felt their eyes on him but kept his focus on the task at hand.

"Let's feed everyone," Arya said, stepping forward. "And then we'll figure out our next move."

Dani nodded, already thinking ahead. The hunt had been a success, but the challenges were far from over.
