Chapter 28: Arrival

"Enough already!" Nami said angrily, her voice cutting through the commotion.

"Alas, it was fun, but that's all I can show for now," the strange person said, but Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper thought otherwise as they chanted for an encore.

The strange man smiled happily as he displayed more of his powers, explaining his ability in detail. He shared that once he copied a person's face, he could transform into that person anytime he wanted. He changed his face into various people he had copied in the past, causing the crew to marvel at his skill.

As he cycled through faces, Vivi and Igaram gasped when they saw one face in particular. "Is something the matter?" Lucas approached them quietly, his voice gentle.

"Uh... it's nothing," Vivi replied, not wanting to draw attention.

"If this person has something to do with Baroque Works and you let him go, this will only lead to greater troubles for your nation," Lucas said in a low voice. Vivi was reluctant but explained that one of the faces the man turned into was her father.

"That's not a light thing to brush off," Lucas remarked, stepping forward with determination. He morphed his hands, one into SkeleTon and the other into the Mummy. He approached the strange man, who was dancing with Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper, and touched him with the SkeleTon hand, increasing his weight and making him fall.

"Hey! What's the deal?" Luffy and the others exclaimed.

Lucas wrapped the man up using the Mummy hand, making the bandages heavy to restrain him. As the others complained, Lucas explained, "I know you have questions, but let me explain. One of the faces he turned into was Vivi's father..."

The man gasped. "Vivi! Wait, are you referring to that princess of Alaba..." He stopped himself abruptly.

"Uuhuh," Nami remarked, suspicion growing.

"Don't worry. If this is a misunderstanding, it'll end at that. I'll be quick," Lucas said, transforming into Pesky Dusk.

"It's a tooth fairy!" Luffy gasped, seeing Lucas in this form, but Lucas carried on. He placed the man into a trance and began extracting information. As the Merry sailed, Vivi's face grew dim as they heard about all the plans Baroque Works had for causing a coup and destroying the nation. The ship fell silent as they digested Mr. 2's revelations.

"How could they..." Vivi raged. "I won't! I won't let this happen," she said, tears welling up in her eyes.

"A ship is coming. It looks like they're here for him," Zoro said, breaking the tense silence.

"So what do we do?" Usopp asked nervously. "If we keep him captive, they'll be alarmed, but if we let him go, they'll also know of our arrival."

"What if I erase his recent memories? Then he won't have our faces and won't remember Vivi being with us," Lucas suggested.

"But the coup is bound to happen if we do that," Vivi said, conflicted.

"I think we should risk it. We're both bound to reach Alabasta at around the same time. I can go directly to the palace to notify the king," Igaram offered.

With the ship drawing nearer, they had no choice but to hurry. Lucas proceeded to erase parts of Mr. 2's memories, then woke him up.

"Ow! Did I doze off? What a shame. The time we spent together has no bearings on our friendship. So long," Mr. 2 said, finding his ship there for him. He left as soon as he awoke, Luffy and Usopp giving him a warm farewell.

"I'm hungry," Luffy ranted as he lay on the deck while the ship sailed. But not long after, as the Merry continued, a giant fish resembling a cat popped out of the ocean next to the ship.

"Ahhhhh, it's huge!" Usopp screamed in fear. "Monster! It's a monster!" Chopper also panicked.

With drool on his mouth, Luffy was ready to pounce. "F-f-fooood!" he yelled, but the fish was scared for its life. Zoro and Sanji joined Luffy, ready to cook the sea cat.

"Stooop!" Vivi smacked the three of them before they could attack the fish. The sea cat, relieved, made a break for it.

"Sea cats are sacred creatures of Alabasta," Vivi explained.

"Then I guess we've arrived," Lucas said. Vivi smiled with a nod.

"Great! Then we'll get food," Luffy remarked. Far towards the horizon, many ships came into view, leaving the Straw Hats flabbergasted.

"So many ships," they remarked.

"Those must be the Billions, the officer agents' subordinates," Vivi said.

"Well, we don't have to worry about that now," Sanji said as the others agreed. They weren't here to start a fight with the Billions; they had more pressing matters to attend to—from escorting the princess home to helping her save her nation. The Straw Hats moved with their goals in check.

"Alright, Alabasta, here we come!" Luffy declared as they arrived at their first location, where Igaram and Carue would split from the team. Lucas even gave them some teleportation talismans for emergencies as they set off. Luffy, meanwhile, had gone ahead looking for food while the others searched for clothes, but Lucas waited on the Merry this time.

"Traveling with the Straw Hats really is something. I always thought that being with these guys would be entertaining, but this is really something..." Lucas muttered, but soon the Straw Hats came running back, boarding the ship.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Someone got spotted by the Marines," Sanji replied. Lucas smiled as they readied the ship quickly. Soon after, as the ship took off, the others asked Luffy about the person who had saved them.

"So you think you can take me on, huh?" Ace popped up behind Luffy.

"Ace!" Luffy exclaimed.

"So this is him," Lucas said, intrigued.

"I'm sure my little brother was a handful. Thank you for taking care of him," Ace bowed his head in gratitude.

"A great one at that. We appreciate your sincerity," Usopp replied.

"Look, he has manners," Nami remarked, amused.

"Hey!" Luffy said defensively.

"So whatcha doing here?" Luffy asked.

"Huh, didn't you get my message?" Ace responded.

"What message?" Luffy replied, confused.

"Meh, forget about it. Luffy, what'd you say about joining the pirate crew I'm in—the Whitebeard Pirates?" Ace asked.

"Don't wanna," Luffy replied bluntly.

"Hahaha! I thought you'd say that," Ace laughed while the others gasped at the mention of the Whitebeard Pirates. He and Luffy talked for a bit more.

"Anyway, here," Ace said, handing Luffy a piece of paper. "Hang on to that, will ya? Next time we meet, it'll be when you're at the top of the pirates," Ace said laughingly as he took off.
