Chapter 297:No Escape [4]
Slightly afraid to ask, Ren sighed before saying.
"And, what is that idea?"
Putting a single finger over her lips to gesture for Ren to be quiet, Ruby grinned, catching Ren completely off guard.
"Did Lily teach you that?"
However, instead of answering Ren's question, Ruby stayed silent and once again placed her finger over her lips.
" *PFFT* "
Hearing someone break into laughter behind him, Ren immediately turned around and glared at the chuckling Raven.
Waving his hands up and down at the fuming Ren, Raven desperately tried to cover his mouth before saying.
"N-nothing. I-i just thought of something really funny."
Before Ren could come up with a fancy retort, Zeng suddenly stepped forward and in front of Raven.
Staring at the crouching Ren and Ruby with a deadpan expression, Zeng asked.
"Boss... is that your boss? Do I have to follow the orders she gives me as well?"
"..."
"*PFFT*"
"*PFFT*"
Ignoring Ren, who was visibly shaking at this point, and the laughing fits of both Ruby and Raven, Zeng continued in the most serious voice possible.
"She told you to be quiet...and you listened, so I just thought..."
Tapping Zeng on the shoulder, Raven fully covered his mouth as he spoke.
"Z-zeng, that's enough."
Using every ounce of self-control in his body, Ren slowly turned to Ruby, who was struggling to hold her laughter in, and a wide grin spread across her face.
A mystical beast capable of destroying cities and killing millions of people could be on the loose right now, but Ren's teammates are laughing at him and cracking jokes.
Every second counted.
If there was already a fight going on down in the vault, and Ren arrived late, the mystical beast could be free.
Yet...here, his trusted teammates and friends were laughing.
Slowly opening his mouth, Ren articulated every single syllable as a calmly said.
"So Ruby...what's that plan of yours to get me in."
Regaining her composure, Ruby hesitated for a moment before pointing downwards.
Following Ruby's gaze, Ren immediately spotted the dozens of djinns' bodies all sprawled out across the ground.
Seeing Ren notice the djinn bodies, Ruby said.
"Their clothes..."
Some of the djinns just wore straight black clothes to help them blend in with the darkness of the underground space.
However, some djinns, in particular, were wearing different types of clothing.
A very familiar type of clothing.
Fun fact: The uniforms for academy students, academy professors, and academy executives were all very similar, so if you weren't paying attention to the person's age, you could mistake them for each other.
Dawning the uniform of academy executives, the djinns lay most near the entrance to the underground space.
Not wasting a second, Ren nodded his head before sprinting down the obsidian door and jumping onto the floor of the underground space.
However, on the way, Ren also grabbed the collars of both Raven and Zeng, dragging them along with him.
Within a couple of seconds, Ren stood in front of djinn bodies, who all dawned the school executive uniform, with Zeng and Raven behind him.
A small number of djinns even had the academy executive uniform on, and among those, some had their clothes stained with blood.
So, finding a couple of suitable corpses took Ren a minute, even with his enhanced eyesight.
Within a couple of seconds, the three boys had each found a suitable body.
"Raven, Zeng, for the next couple of minutes...we are the good guys now, not the bad guys, alright?"
Scratching his head innocently, Zeng responded.
"Weren't we always the good guys, though, boss?"
"..."
As Ren was at a loss for words due to Zen's naivety, Raven walked up to him and patted him on the shoulder before saying.
"Zeng...The only reason this company was founded was because your boss blackmailed me. If I didn't agree to help him, I would be a corpse lying around in the black market.
"The only reason you joined the company is because you had two options when Ren found you. Either join or die." Find your next read at empire
"Do you see a pattern here?"
Sighing, Ren ignored the two's talk before pointing to the fully clothed corpses on the ground.
"And right now, we are about to loot clothes off the bodies of dead people."
Raven, trying to think of the reason why we needed the uniforms, shook his head before asking.
"Boss, are we going to infiltrate that group from earlier with these uniforms?"
On the other hand, Zeng, without any hesitation, began undressing and unclothing the djinn's body.
Using his physical corruption, Ren nodded his head to Rvaen's questions while simultaneously creating a large wall of corruption that surrounded the three of them.
Thus, all of them, looking in opposite directions, put on the academy executives' uniforms.
A couple of seconds later, the wall of corruption came down, revealing the three boys in their dirt-stained uniforms.
Grabbing the three of them by their collars once again, Ren sprinted towards the top of the obsidian door.
Seeing the three of them dressed up, Ruby cocked her head before saying.
"Appearance is one thing...but you also need to act the part."
Nodding his head, Ren turned to Raven and Zeng behind him before explaining.
"We are reinforcements sent by Principal Seraphina to assist the students and recruiters in protecting the vault."
Recalling the usual smug and arrogant nature of academy executives, Ren continued.
"Act as if you are superior to the students inside, even if they are much more powerful than us. Don't show any signs of weakness."
Pointing at the now-blocked entrance into the underground space, Ren said.
"The first question we will be asked is how we got in here. Do not stutter or falter when you hear this question."
"Simply answer calmly and say that we all have movement abilities that allow us to bypass the iron slab that is blocking the entrance."
"Also, mention that our other comrades are trying to get around the slab and will be with us shortly."
