Transmigration: On the Gossip Front

Chapter 19: Chapter 19 No House Female Supporting Character 19_1

Zhang Yu went to work the next day without bringing the documents, which was essentially an opportunity to meet her future superiors.

It was unclear whether yesterday's probing had let them realize that Zhang Yu was not a pushover or if there was concern about further tests.

If Zhang Yu were to be offended again, matters could spiral out of control, potentially becoming unmanageable.

Regardless of whether it was the president or the vice-president, their attitude towards Zhang Yu was positive, mentioning that she should come to them with any problems encountered in work or life.

Regarding their remarks, Zhang Yu only listened. If she really ran into trouble, it was uncertain whether they would be willing to help.

In Zhang Yu's mind, the likelihood of their assistance was not high, or to put it another way, one shouldn't end up being coerced into doing something undesirable because of accepting help.

It was better to maintain a certain distance. After returning to the office, Zhang Yu quietly read books and searched for information online.

Having decided to study for the CPA exam, of course, she needed to start preparing. Although there were online courses available, she was worried that, after a long hiatus from studying, she might lack discipline.

After some thought, she decided to take both online and offline courses. As the financial director, she truly wasn't too busy and should definitely have the time to attend classes.

When lunchtime arrived, Zhang Yu quietly followed the finance department to eat.

Once at the cafeteria, she quietly got her meal and ate alone, rather than joining the finance department's table.

Chit-chatting with them wouldn't yield any useful information anyway and might just lead to needless worry or inadvertently involve someone.

For Zhang Yu, eating alone was no challenge; she considered herself an outsider and felt no need to forcefully foster deep relationships with them.

Zhang Yu's actions were a relief to the finance department staff. Seeing her come to the cafeteria for lunch had made them nervous, worried about what they would say if she questioned them.

Even innocuous conversation could be misconstrued by higher-ups—what would they think?

Especially with the data Zhang Yu requested yesterday, everyone in the finance department was aware. They didn't know if there was a wise advisor behind her or if it was her own idea.

Whichever the reason, the bottom line was that Zhang Yu was not entirely harmless.

The power struggles at the top had nothing to do with them, the underlings. The best course was to quietly stay out of it if possible.

After lunch, Zhang Yu took a walk in the small garden downstairs from the company. To her, a solitary post-meal stroll was very refreshing.

Refreshed from her walk, Zhang Yu returned to the office to rest for a while before seeing the head of finance from the group company online, inquiring how she was settling into her new position.

Zhang Yu replied that everything was fine; the office and living quarters arranged for her were quite nice.

The head of finance knew that people sent by the group company would certainly receive good treatment there.

Now that he heard Zhang Yu was being well-received, he encouraged her to work hard and remember to contact him if any issues arose.

In the afternoon, Zhang Yu quietly read books by herself, undisturbed.

When it was time to leave work, she packed her bag and left on the dot, of course, greeting the neighboring finance department staff on her way out.

The finance department was busy, and though they envied Zhang Yu's timely departure, they knew their situation was different from that of a financial director.

After the finance manager came out, he saw them looking enviously towards Zhang Yu.

"Are you envious?"

Hearing that it was the finance manager speaking, no one dared to admit their envy and busied themselves with work, knowing they could only leave after finishing their tasks.

After quelling the staff's feelings once again, the finance manager slowly left the department, glancing at the office of the finance director and sighing helplessly to himself.

Had it not been for Zhang Yu's arrival, that position would have been his. He had personally arranged the neighboring office, expecting it would be his one day.

But unexpectedly, like a bolt from the blue, a stable appointment was overturned by an unexpected competitor.

Regardless of his thoughts, the position was hers. Even though the leadership assured him he was still the head of the finance department, his salary hadn't increased.

He considered letting it go, seeing Zhang Yu didn't seem entirely clueless and might be a tough character.

If she were to uncover any problems with work, he couldn't expect the other leaders to have his back.

The finance manager couldn't help but sigh. Despite his esteemed position, who knew that his current role would feel almost like a hot potato?

But he had no choice; this was his job, and he had to take sides. Otherwise, how could he have become the finance manager?

Forget it, he might just be overly nervous. Just because the documents were sent to her, it didn't mean she would discover anything.

After all, to handle these accounts, they had consulted professionals. Unless it was the former head of finance, he didn't believe Zhang Yu could spot any discrepancies.

With this thought, the finance manager breathed a sigh of relief, deciding he must not panic or let Zhang Yu sense anything amiss.

Zhang Yu, unaware of the finance manager's worries after her departure, was busy shopping for books at the bookstore. Although she had missed this registration, it was fine; she was starting to prepare now.

Carrying a few books, she headed home first, then went downstairs to buy vegetables from the small grocery store next to her apartment complex.

Zhang Yu, a regular customer, found the prices at the store reasonable, and the vegetables were quite fresh.

She felt there was no need to go to the market just for herself; even if the market was cheaper, the savings were minimal for a single person.

After quickly preparing dinner at home, Zhang Yu noticed the phone nearby.

After a moment's thought, she decided to call Zhang Dagu and his wife. Since she was not visiting often, she should at least call frequently.

Zhang Yu figured that by this time, Zhang Dagu and his wife would have finished their walk and were ready to rest.

When the call was answered and she heard the familiar voice, Zhang Yu was stunned.

She hadn't expected to find Zhang Hong at home at this hour, but then again, it seemed normal given the tension involved in the relocation negotiations.

Not to mention Zhang Guohua and his wife moving back, how could Zhang Shouhua and Zhang Hong not worry with their level of awareness?

Could they really trust Zhang Guohua and his spouse?

Being children of Zhang Dagu just like herself, an unmarried and childless person, everyone was at ease with her because they thought she was a simpleton, with all her money going towards the younger relatives.
