Underwater Evolution- Infernal Depths

Chapter 5: Coincidence Among Infinite Possibilities

For Kyle, every enemy was an imminent threat, and his survival instinct kicked in like an erupting volcano, fueled by a will to live that he didn't even know he had.

Like a berserker gone berserk, he continued to move regardless of the pain coursing through his body, which now seemed to defy the limits of human endurance.

The battle was not only a fight against the tuna; it was a fight against himself, against the fatigue and fear that threatened to consume him.

Every second counted; every tuna he killed was a step closer to his survival.

"Haa~ haaa~... aaaah~..."

The water around him was dyed red, and his breathing was ragged, but he had made it. He was so focused that he didn't even notice that, at some point during the battle, he had gone up a level.

Luck or not, forcing his body to the max with low stats helped him gain more stats and hold steady to the end, not relying on those gained by his new level.

The tuna had been defeated, but the price had been high. His arms were shaking and his body was covered in wounds, but he was alive. He could hardly believe it, and he was happy.

"I survived...haaa~aaahhh~....haaaa~..."

He made it. Kyle was in a mental ecstasy; the sense of accomplishment was something he had rarely felt in his life and he was enjoying it to the fullest, even with how wrecked his body felt.

Until his celebration was interrupted again by a message:

[[You have endured the Rite of Initiation. You have proven your worth before us, and as your efforts and achievements merit, we shall bestow upon you a privilege. Take this as the first step upon the path that lies before you.]]

[[This marks the beginning of your epic. Prepare yourself, for great things are both expected and demanded of you. Our judgment is unwavering, and your choices will shape the destiny that awaits.]]

"Shit!, even this is the same."

Kyle, hearing the voice and understanding what it was referring to, was not happy at all; the implications were not good for him at all and sank his mood, but at that moment he had no room to think it through.

Kyle was completely exhausted and didn't want to move, but he feared something else would happen with so much blood and bodies around.

He allocated two more points to Vitality when he noticed he had free points and one more level. Also, feeling hungry, he dragged along a tuna with him with a decent, complety body; that would be his meal.

After searching for a while, he found a hole in a collapsed building that he thought would hide him long enough. He rested for some time; due to extreme fatigue he couldn't even eat the tuna and fell asleep..

[[Oh, poor inferior beings...]]

[[We, have judged your pathetic actions and, in our infinite compassion, have decided to grant you the most precious of gifts: a 'chance' and to prevent your extermination]].

[[Let it be clear: this is our mercy... and it will be the last you will see]].

Some time later, as Kyle slept, those same voices reverberated again, giving a final message that as far as Kyle knew should not exist.

...

..

.

"Nom-nom-squelch!"

When he woke up, Kyle was so hungry that he ate the tuna raw, biting into it without any restraint. Well, not that he had any choice but to do it that way, being underwater.

Kyle was in a good mood again, despite everything that had happened. Why? Because he had never had the money to buy tuna meat and had never tasted it. He felt like a bourgeois indulging in luxuries he never thought he could have.

Having so much meat was like a privilege, and it was the only thing going through his mind at that moment. He didn't even care about the fact that what he was eating was killing other people he even knew. For Kyle, the important thing now was to eat, eat and survive.

As for why he wanted to survive, Kyle didn't really know, as bad as it sounds, Kyle had never clung to life, tenaciously, in fact he was on more than one occasion prone to end it all, so maybe that's the reason why he acted the way he did when he saw the tsunami.

although if he thought about it he was also seriously pissed off that finally the possibility of change was close to him, only to suddenly have a fucking apocalypse happen.

Maybe that rage and insatiation is what drives him to live, it seems silly but Kyle could not think of anything else that would make him so tense to survive the wave of tuna.

It is true that in a critical situation the true self of the people comes out, but Kyle had no idea who was the one who wanted to live so badly inside him.

Honestly and rationally it would be better to get it over with if the situation he thought was really happening then it was better to die and get it over with, but again there was something inside him that would not let this thought rule.

Something in him wanted to see this through to the end and move forward tenaciously, something illogical and that definitely should not exist in someone who calls himself a rational person like him.

Kyle thought that if he wanted to live so much, it was better to do it until the end and he would give his best, he would not deny that although he was afraid, the possibility of this new world did attract him a little, it was as the voices said, a change from his monotonousness.

He was now devouring that tuna like there was no tomorrow; the creature was twice as big as he was, but it was slowly dwindling. Honestly, he didn't know how long it had been since he last ate, he had no idea how long he had been dragging, or how much sleep he had gotten.

But after waking up and feeling refreshed, this tuna helped him get even better. He had never felt in better condition than he did now.

"Burp... Well, now I have to figure out what to do."

When his hunger was finally satiated, he began to think of other, more important things about the situation he was in. He checked himself and felt no pain or anything like that, it was as if he had not strained his body beyond the limit.

Again he found fault with things that should be logical: a short nap should not be enough, indeed, he should not even be able to move his body so easily, let alone feel better than ever.

Anyone who has been to the gym for three days in a row knows the stiffness a person gets after pushing their body to the limit, but he didn't seem to have any problems in that regard... unless he had slept for more than a week .

"I didn't, did I?"

Kyle started to question himself, but in the end decided better not to think too hard about it; that shouldn't even be important, when he's breathing water like air at the moment.

The more important issue for Kyle was that he more or less understood what was going on. If he understood what was happening, even though it was all abrupt and bizarre, it was because it was basically the theme of his game.

"no, it's not the same".

His game combined isometric and 2.5D point of view. So far, everything had happened the same as in the game: leaving aside the sudden global flood, which did not occur in his game.

In fact, almost the entire game took place in an aquatic environment, the words he heard, the chest, the weapon, the state and, the main thing, the tutorial to get familiar with the controls, which was to defeat the tuna.

Up to that point, everything was the same as his game. The point is that it was a single player, offline game, so there should only be one tuna as a tutorial.

While things seemed to follow the theme of his game, they were not entirely the same. His game was a solitaire, offline, semi-linear game; so while the framework seemed the same, things were very different. He didn't seem to be stuck in something linear.

If I had to put it in the context of a game, it would be like if they took his game and turned it into an online open world game.

He had very little information to back up this theory, but it doesn't change the fact that these things were just like his game, and he didn't know to what extent he was following the rules. Already the 50 tuna broke his knowledge; he couldn't be sure of anything yet.

"Damn, why is it so similar? It's not my fault, is it? No, it can't be, you have to think realistically."

But what scared Kyle the most was the fact that it looked essentially like his game; the implications of this terrified him, but, being the way he is, he rationalized his conclusion, "It's a coincidence."

"Yes, it's true, there are thousands of games published every year with different plots and game systems; that mine resembles this situation is a coincidence. It was like hitting a one-in-a-million chance."

He did not want to believe, nor was it realistic, that he was the cause of a possible apocalypse and the death of millions of people. So he thought rationally.

"In the infinite sea of possibilities, there could always be such a coincidence." Yes, if he thought about it, besides the basics, nothing was similar. The game wasn't even supposed to take place on Earth, so there shouldn't be ruins and stuff.

Although the protagonist was from planet earth, which would be an unexpected twist, at the end, of the game, it was a game with a touch of mystery, that honestly had an ending, open, for possible sequels that I was ambitiously already planning, despite not even releasing it.

Well, the game never had a chance to come out. It wasn't like one of those novels I used to read, where some random god liked a game or novel and sent the author or creator to him because he didn't like something or just because he did.

Only he knew of the existence of such a game... and he sincerely hoped it was just a coincidence.
