Unibook: Roses and Thorns – Just for Them

Chapter 5: My conflicts, my fears... And you.

As your heroine, I realize the situation demands more from me than a simple fight. Even though the blows aimed at me have no effect, I feel the intensity of your suffering, and it drives me to fight even harder.

Every move I make is an attempt to save not just you but to protect our connection as well.

My mission is not just to win but to keep our bond intact, because I know that, behind these chains and adversities, you are more than just a prisoner—you are my equal, my companion.

So I focus on the enemies, using all my strength and strategy to defeat them, never losing sight of the fact that, in the end, my goal is to set you free, and that what binds us is greater than any obstacle. I maintain a strong posture, but with every strike, my focus remains on you.

And in the end, when the henchmen are defeated, I will finally release your last hand, perhaps already sensing the moment when love and victory converge.

I carry you in my arms with utmost care, feeling the weight of your fragility, but also the pressure of our connection, of what has brought us this far. The place around us is dark, unfamiliar, but something inside me guides me, urging me to move forward.

I finally find a room, small but safe enough for us to catch our breath, to be far from everything chasing us for now.

Even tired and drenched in sweat, I push myself further to care for you. When I set you down carefully in a corner, I try to calm the rapid beating of my heart, still racing from the tension of the battle.

I look at you, your eyes still marked by all the suffering you've endured, and with my voice soft yet firm, I begin to tell you:

"You have no idea how much I wanted to protect you, but until now, I've always felt that something about me... was different. It's not just love, my dear. I am not... just human. There is so much more to me, something even I don't fully understand. The strength you saw in me is not just a reflection of what I feel for you. I... am part of something different, perhaps greater, something hidden from even myself for so long. I am more than what you imagine."

As I speak, my voice begins to falter. My eyes, which have always been so confident, now reflect a vulnerability I didn't even know I had. I continue, unable to look directly into your eyes, caught between fear and the desire to finally tell everything, and the dread of not being understood:

"I didn't want to involve you in this. I knew what was happening had something to do with me, but... I didn't realize how much. I was chosen to be here, with you. And what I am, what I can do... all of it is part of a destiny I can't avoid. But you... you weren't supposed to be here. I wanted to keep you away from this, but I failed. The chance to share a walk in such a wonderful place, in the company of someone even more wonderful, dazzled my senses, and I simply couldn't resist. I'm sorry, but I can't hide who I am anymore."

I pause, feeling the weight of my words, awaiting your reaction, my truth laying bare before you in the silence of that small room. I look at you with a hint of sadness in my eyes, my gaze wandering for a moment before you finally speak—almost as if it's something I needed to hear, though it still hurts to see you wounded like this.

"You... the truth... you were my student, and at first, I saw you as someone who had much to learn. You absorbed what I said, you were dedicated. But the truth is, our relationship was never what you imagined. It wasn't a normal relationship between a student and a mentor. I was, in fact, part of something much bigger, something that involved a project... and you, you were just an assistant, interacting with a special subject of that project. I didn't want to accept it, but that's how it was. You thought I was here to guide you, but in reality, I was just another piece of the game... of something we couldn't control. So don't worry too much about me. I deserve every pain, every punishment directed at me."

I pause, my eyes fixed on you, trying to gauge your reaction. I really didn't know how you'd respond to this, nor that you were part of my truth. A truth that was hard to tell and even harder to accept. The pity I feel for you grows even more, knowing you've only been told half-truths.

I step closer to you, still a bit hesitant, trying to find the right words. "My dear, I... I don't really know where we are either, but I'm here to help you. As for what happened... it wasn't your fault. You're here because... you're important, very important, and they know it. The ones who took you, because of me, have an interest in you—more than you realize."

I take a deep breath, as if preparing to reveal the truth, but I hesitate. "About what happened to you... I... I couldn't stop it. They used you for something that... that wasn't supposed to happen.

And the beatings... they were a way to try to break you, to make you talk about me, about my experiences, or my fears. They wanted you to give in. But I didn't... I never wanted this to happen to you, not ever."

I look at you with sincerity in my eyes, trying to convey all the trust I still have. "I promise, no matter what, I will get you out of this. You're not alone."

I see you fighting against the confusion and pain, still unable to believe the words I just said. Your eyes, filled with questions and uncertainties, reflect what you're feeling. I stay quiet for a moment, realizing the depth of your doubt. Even so, I don't give up, knowing that my mission is to give you some kind of comfort, some explanation that makes more sense.

"I know this all feels like a nightmare," I say softly, "But the truth is, you were chosen, by something you don't fully understand yet. But you are stronger than you think, and I will help you discover everything, help you understand."

I move a little closer, feeling the tension in the air. "I don't want you to doubt me, but I also know you have the right to question. It's not easy to trust, especially now. But I am here, by your side. What happened here was planned, it wasn't a coincidence."

I pause, my voice softer, as if I'm revealing something confidential.

"What happened to you wasn't an accident, but part of a bigger plan. A plan that involves both of us. You have something inside of you that many want to control, it's my fascination with you, and the way you draw me in and even your manner, that allows me to control you. What these intruders don't understand is that this is something of mine, something of yours… Something of ours, that goes beyond dark research... Something that unites us and makes us happy, just by sharing a moment together. And that's what's at stake here. Now, the only thing I can promise is that I won't leave you alone. Not while I can fight, and prevent them from destroying what we hold most precious... Our mutual trust."
