Chapter 5: Where am I...?

Chase was lying on his bed struggling to sleep after the awkward conclusion to the chat that he had with his father. 'Damn that old deadbeat.' Chase thought to himself while rolling over to his left side.

He waited impatiently for what felt like forever to fall asleep. However, after what felt like an eternity, Chase finally started to drift off to sleep...

...

Chase quickly woke himself up once he noticed something was wrong. 'What the hell...'

The first thing that Chase noticed was that he was no longer in his bed, or even in his own house for that matter. He was laying on what seemed to be a mix of ash and hard bedrock.

Chase took a second to look around only to quickly notice that he was in a barren field of burning buildings and fire, lots of fire.

"Where- Where am I?" Chase said quickly standing to his feet. He was wearing nothing but some tattered cloths. He had no shoes or any protection to keep his feet from burning on the hard ashen rock.

'It burns...' Chase said quickly hopping from one foot to the other to keep them from burning into the same ash that he woke up on, or at least what he assumed would happen.

Chase turned around to see a large black ruin with a massive black steel throne, that was piled with swords and what looked like skulls of ancient deities...

Chase quickly started to panic and run away from the terrifying throne, something about it chilled Chase to the very core. Perhaps it was the deformed skulls that seemed to be looking right through the blond haired boy, or maybe it was the shadowy figure who sat upon the throne.

Chase did not even bother trying to see through the shadows, it was as if he knew he would be killed immediately if he even seen an outline of the figure.

As Chase ran he noticed very weird locations, oddly familiar locations. After running for a few seconds he finally recognized one of the locations from one of his grade school textbooks.

It was one of the most prestigious magic and military schools on the continent; The Phoenix Academy stood atop an ashen mountain about 5 Kilometers away.

However, it was ruined and a terrifying green flame quickly incinerated the beautiful castle like school atop the large black mountain.

'What the hell is this...' Chase thought to himself as he continued to run, until a chilling realization hit him, something so terrifying that he lost his breath long enough to start gasping for air...

Chase was not running at all, in fact he was not moving of his own accord, it was as if the world was moving around him.

In the next fifteen minutes, Chase seen countless things, that did not make any sense. He seen a small black haired boy in leather makeshift clothing sitting by a fire in an eerie overgrown forest.

Chase also seen a beautiful ivory haired girl with ruby colored eyes sitting on top of the large corpse of a crimson dragon, Chase barely had time to make out what was going on before the scene shifted again.

However, it appeared that the girl was crying and clutching a shattered silver spear.

After what felt like another eternity, The ground beneath Chase blurred and dissolved, reforming into a jagged mountain peak shrouded in swirling darkness.

Chase quickly looked up to see a swirling black vortex that pulsed with malevolent energy- no, it was a tornado that looked to reach the heavens, and it stood atop a mountain peak that scraped against the sky.

The image shifted showing a larger man, with short black hair and the mask of what looked like a white and black bear of some sorts that hung from his Chestplate. The man was bulky and The man's Warhammer-like arms bulged beneath jade and amethyst armor, its pieces held together by massive boulders.

The man's height was indiscernible, as he crouched beneath the tornado's swirling core, straining to hold something aloft.

However, the thing was that it was not hard to guess that the man of earth was around three times the height of Chase standing nearly 9 meters tall.

With a closer look, the man did not seem distressed in the slightest of the situation he was in, sitting in the center of a dark vortex.

In fact, the man looked to have a satisfied look on his face, and then the man did something unexpected.

Piercing black eyes looked back at Chase. Somehow the man had noticed his presence and stared right back at the young boy.

A quiet mutter could be heard from the man as he slowly looked to the ground. "No, it is not time yet..." The man then quickly yelled to the boy.

"LEAVE BOY! You're not supposed to be here, not yet..."

Chase recoiled back quickly causing the image to shift to a much more dark and sinister one compared to the previous ones.

The blonde haired boy had already realized that this was most likely an odd sort of lucid dream, however the scene that was playing out in front of him was much more surreal and physical then the others.

Chase was hunched over next to a small bush near the tree line of Willowmere...

What played out before him was a flash of fire, and suddenly his world shifted once more causing Chase to wake with a start in his own bed.

Chase sat up quickly coughing and wheezing, there were streams of tears rolling down his cheeks, however he paid no attention to that and instead looked at the small window on the bed side of the room.

Chase clutched his chest, his heartbeat a thunderous drum in the silence. He stared at the bedside window, his breaths coming in ragged gasps. He had only been asleep for five, maybe ten minutes.
