Unraveling the Alpha's Secret

Chapter 15: Chapter 15

Ivonne's POV

"Marry you?" I choked on my saliva, totally astounded by his proposal. "What?"

"Yes," he repeated, his facial features showing no sign of amusement. "Marry me Ivonne."

"Why do you want me to marry you?" I interrogated, trying to wrap my head around what I just heard.

"Why do you want to know?" He questioned in the same manner. "You were ready to do anything."

"I was, however I never expected this to be your proposal," I replied honestly.

"I've been told I'm unpredictable," he shrugged, unfazed by the situation while I was a freaking mess as I played the implication in my head.

"So this isn't a joke," I said slowly, letting it sinking.

"It isn't Ivonne," he declared and the manner in which he pronounced my name seemed to do things to my senses I was yet to explain.

"I have a reason for this."

"What is that reason?" I inquired, curious as to why.

"I need an heir soon," he revealed, my heart dipping to my ass at his statement.

"How soon?" I implored, fear creeping in.

"A year," he blurted. "We can get divorced after, hence by then your mother would have fully recovered. You get what you want and I get what I want."

My hand unconsciously went to my abdomen as I recalled what I was told by the doctor after the accident that made me loose Lincoln's child.

His sharp gaze followed my movement and I had to fake smile, hoping he wouldn't see the fear lurking beneath. Fear that if I dared to reveal the truth about my sick womb, the whole deal would go down the drain.

"Every Alpha needs an heir huh?" I blurted the question playfully.

"Because we can be robbed off our lives any moment," he murmured in a faintly sad tone. "So everyday is filled with risks for us."

"If I agree to marry you now," I began. "I'd have to bear you an heir before we divorce and you promise to handle everything concerning the hospital and my morher's well-being."

"I never go back on my word Ivonne," he gritted through tightly clenched teeth. "I'm not like Lincoln and his family."

"Okay," I inhaled a deep breath, swallowing every ounce of dread at what was to come if Tobias ever found out about my health condition. "Let's get married."

^^^^^^^^

Despite my agreeing to his proposal, I left his residence dazed and had been in that same state for the next few days. I tried to hide it rather I didn't do it well thus my maids noticed it, especially Lora.

As for Lincoln and Allison, I strived to avoid them as best as I could. I was nothing but an unwanted guest in the house and I already knew I had to start making plans to get a place as soon as possible before I ended up getting kicked out.

Thankfully my mother was getting the required treatment once Tobias pulled his strings and I got a good report from the nurse that morning as I called to check on her state.

I had been busy emotionally, mentally and physically which had prevented me from visiting her since I did the previous week, however I promised myself I had to do so in the coming days as I craved to see how she was doing myself.

The news from the nurse had put me in a good mood and I found myself humming as I got dressed in green slacks and a black long-sleeved tank top.

Hauling my hair into a ponytail I observed Lora give me a perplexed glimpse through the mirror. She was sat on my bed in a blue floral dress, and watched my movements.

I didn't utter a comment and only smiled at her reflection which prompted her to divert her attention away from me and the reflective glass. She was confused and it was certainly justified.

My behavior was a total contrast to the way I had been in the past days so it was indeed questionable. Whirling around from the mirror I made a hand gesture. "Up, let's go make breakfast."

"Want to make something delicious for the Alpha?" She raised a question.

"Nope," I crackled with a shake of my head. "I want to make breakfast for myself and any one of you who is interested. Not for the Alpha or his cursed bitch Allison."

She came to an abrupt halt at my utterance, her expression mouth gaping in surprise and her eyes wide.

Tapping her on the shoulder lightly I said. "It's shocking I know but I think it's time I face the reality of my situation don't you think?"

"You are right Luna," she declared after a moment and granted me a comforting smile. "You have to be strong and don't let them win."

"You are an amazing person Lora," I squeezed her shoulder in affection and asked. "If ever I'm going somewhere and ask you to leave this place, this pack with me, would you?"

"Why are you saying so Luna?" She implored, a frown appearing on her facial features. "Where will you go?"

"Honestly? I don't know," I confessed in a sigh. It all sounded easy, rather I knew it wasn't. "Just answer me."

"Aside from being your personal maid and servant Luna I consider you as a friend whom I've come to love and respect," she went on to say in reply, surprising me with her words. "So if you pack your bags this instant and ask me to follow you? I definitely will in a heartbeat."

"I know what you have been through so if that's your decision?" She said in more of a question than a statement. "I'll give you my full-blown support."

Her sincerity and confession marveled me. I was simply expecting a yes or no and not a heart-tugging speech which messed with my emotions and made me feel like I finally had a sister and someone on my side.

I was certain Lora was different and an amazing human, but I never thought she saw me in the same light I did her if not more. It was more than the loyalty I expected, in her words it was love and respect.

"Thank you Lora," I whispered, and blinked back the tears. "Really, thank you. This means a lot." "I'm here always Luna," she said and linked her arm with mine.

"In the same way I am for you Lora," I murmured. "If you need me for anything, please do not hesitate to let me know. I promise to do the best I can for you."

"Okay Luna, she bobbed her head in affirmation and took a step forward. "Can we make the breakfast now? I've really missed your cooking Luna."

"I've missed it too Lora," I chuckled as we strode to the door. "What do you plan to make?" She inquired, turning the door knob.

"I don't know, pasta?" I thought out loud before making a whatever motion with my fingers. "I'll figure it out once I see what we have."

"Well about that, you should know the kitchen is always stocked and wou—-"

She trailed off as the door was opened and there stood Lincoln in a red vest and jeans about to knock. His gaze shifted to Lora and back to me.

"Is anything the matter?" I quizzed, angling my head to the side and fixed him with a pointed glimpse.

"I just came to tell you something," he revealed and his eyes dropped on Lora.

Getting his signal, I ignored it with a sweet smile. "Go ahead and say it now, Lora and I are about to make breakfast."

"Okay," he uttered in a gruff voice as his face morphed into a scowl. "I'll need you to be ready by this time tomorrow."

"Where are we going?" I asked in wonder. "To finalize our divorce,"
