Urban Roots: The Farming System

Chapter 10: Hiring Help (Because Even Superheroes Need Sidekicks)

Kieran had officially hit the big time. His rooftop greenhouse was cranking out crops like a well-oiled machine, and his daily deliveries had become so frequent that his old system of doing everything himself was starting to feel a little… well, old.

Sure, he had the fancy drone for deliveries now, but it didn't mean he could slack off. The farm was growing, the orders were pouring in, and he was practically drowning in tomatoes and lettuce. He didn't want to just be the guy who grew tomatoes. He wanted to be the guy who grew tomatoes, managed a small army, and ran the most successful urban farm in the city.

And so, after a few too many late nights, a few too many awkward calls with delivery drones, and an unhealthy obsession with his system balance, Kieran came to a conclusion: it was time to hire help. But not just any help. No, he needed system farm helpers—the kind of workers who would show up, do the dirty work, and keep the farm running while he focused on the big picture.

After all, a farm this successful couldn't run on his hard work alone. It needed a team. A dream team.

Kieran sat down at his desk with a cup of coffee in hand, staring at the system panel. His balance had hit a new high.

Current Balance: $7,200

System Points: 1600

Daily earnings from deliveries had skyrocketed to around $3,000, and that wasn't even factoring in the weekly bonuses from restaurant partnerships. Kieran had officially crossed into the realm of "I can take a vacation… but I won't" status.

With a satisfied grin, he navigated to the "Farm Helpers" section of the system.

Farm Helpers Available:

Helper Bot A-1000

Cost: $1,000 per week

Skills: Weeding, planting, watering, basic crop management, System Points: 250, Notes: Slightly clumsy, but very efficient.

Helper Bot B-2000

Cost: $1,500 per week, Skills: Advanced crop management, pest control, automated harvesting, System Points: 400, Notes: Extremely precise, but a little too serious.

Helper Bot C-3000

Cost: $2,000 per week Skills: Crop rotation, greenhouse optimization, customer service System Points: 500 Notes: Highly energetic, loves to sing while working.

Kieran stared at the list. He couldn't help but chuckle. "Helper Bot C-3000? Does it come with a playlist of motivational songs, too?"

But in all seriousness, he needed quality help. He was already drowning in orders, and the last thing he wanted was to let his crop quality slip just because he didn't have time to do everything himself.

The A-1000 was cheap, but Kieran wasn't in the mood for clumsiness. He needed someone who could handle the farm like a pro, without turning everything into a mess. He quickly crossed that one off the list.

The B-2000 seemed like a solid choice. It was more expensive, but it would help with advanced crop management and pest control—things that Kieran hadn't even had the time to think about.

But then… there was the C-3000. The price was steep, but the added bonuses of crop rotation, greenhouse optimization, and customer service made it hard to resist. Plus, the idea of a bot singing while working? That sounded like just the kind of ridiculousness Kieran needed to keep his sanity in check.

After a few moments of deep internal struggle, Kieran made his decision.

"I'll take three of them," he said confidently, deciding that more was always better.

The system confirmed his purchase with a cheerful ding.

Farm Helpers Hired:

Helper Bot A-1000 (1 week)Helper Bot B-2000 (1 week)Helper Bot C-3000 (1 week)

Within minutes, the farm helpers arrived. Each one was a little different, but they all looked ready for action. The A-1000 was a compact, boxy little bot with a big red button on its chest, which Kieran assumed was for emergencies. The B-2000 was sleek, with a metallic finish and a serious expression that made it look like it was ready to run a corporate meeting. The C-3000, however, was a little… quirky. It had a bright, colorful design and a pair of sunglasses that seemed completely unnecessary, but Kieran loved it.

"Alright, team!" Kieran clapped his hands together. "You've all been hired to help me take over the farming world! Or, you know, just help me manage the farm for now. But eventually, we're aiming for world domination. Got it?"

The A-1000 gave a small beep, which Kieran interpreted as a "yes."

The B-2000 gave a curt nod and immediately started analyzing the crop data on his phone. It was already calculating optimal growth cycles.

The C-3000 grinned widely and began singing "Eye of the Tiger" at full volume. Kieran raised an eyebrow.

"Uh… not quite what I had in mind, but okay. Get to work, you three."

And so began Kieran's life as a farmer with helpers.

The next few days were a whirlwind of activity. The A-1000 set to work with its weeding and watering duties, making sure the crops were well-fed and free of unwanted guests. The B-2000 took charge of managing the more complex tasks, like pest control and ensuring the crops were growing at the optimal rate. It even helped streamline the harvesting process so everything was ready to go just in time for the delivery drones to pick up the goods.

And then there was the C-3000. While it did occasionally interrupt the workflow with impromptu renditions of classic rock songs, it was also surprisingly good at handling customer service. Whenever a client called, it would answer with a cheerful "Hello, this is C-3000, your friendly farm assistant! How can I help you today?" It even began assisting with packaging, making sure everything was neatly organized for the delivery drones.

Kieran found himself spending much less time on the physical work and more time managing the business. Orders were pouring in faster than ever, and the farm helpers made everything run like clockwork. Kieran barely even had to think about the daily tasks anymore. It was like he had a small army working around the clock to make sure everything was perfect.

And the best part? His daily earnings had skyrocketed to an impressive $3,000 a day.

Daily Earnings Summary:

Earnings from Deliveries: $3,000 Expenses (Farm Helpers): $4,500 per week System Points: 3,000

The balance wasn't looking too shabby, either. Kieran had enough money to keep the farm helpers around for the foreseeable future, and the system points were steadily climbing, thanks to his thriving business.

"Things are looking up," Kieran said, leaning back in his chair and staring out at the greenhouse. "I'm one step closer to becoming the ultimate urban farmer."

He paused for a second, considering his next move.

"And maybe… just maybe… it's time to think about expanding even more."

He grinned to himself, already imagining what the next step of his farming empire would look like.
