Versatile Mage : Reborn As Mo Fan

Chapter 160: Chapter 159: Jiang Yu’s Cat Master

At this moment, the National Institute team was on a high building, defending against attacks. However, things were very different from the original defense plan. Many of the buildings had been destroyed, limiting their range of movement considerably.

"I now understand why all the buildings here look so new. They get destroyed every time there's a battle, so they constantly have to rebuild them!" Zhao Manyan cursed, finally understanding the situation after seeing it for himself.

"These buildings were reinforced to withstand tides, yet so many have been washed away. Our movement space has really shrunk," Jiang Yu said as he stood at the edge of the building, watching the floodwaters rampaging through the streets below, feeling a tinge of fear.

At that moment, the cry of a baby echoed, "Waa waa waa!"

Hearing the sound, Nanrong Ni immediately jumped down without hesitation.

Seeing this, Jiang Yu cursed inwardly, "Idiot!" and shouted, "Nanrong Ni, don't go near it!!!"

This was the Sea Battle City—there was no way there could be a real baby here! Was this woman using her chest to think instead of her brain?

Though Jiang Yu warned her in time, Nanrong Ni still got injured by the leap of a White Weeping Demon. She didn't even have time to activate her armor magic tool.

The White Weeping Demon extended its other pointed limb, aiming right for Nanrong Ni's waist. If that sharp appendage pierced through her, she'd surely be dead!

White Weeping Demons showed no mercy. The fearsome spike-like appendage struck with terrifying speed and force.

Gritting her teeth, Nanrong Ni twisted her body to avoid it, but her leg had already been impaled, making her movements even more painful. It was as if the spike were twisting through her muscles and tendons, causing her face to turn pale with agony!

If Mo Fan were here, he might have even praised her for being tough.

"Guan Yu, cut off its limb!" Jiang Yu saw that Nanrong Ni was in grave danger and urgently shouted at Guan Yu, who was diving toward her.

A gust of wind swept up as Guan Yu descended. He agilely landed on a jutting stone platform, using it as a springboard to leap forward. With a swing of his arm blade, he slashed at the White Weeping Demon's limb.

Unfortunately, even with a soul-grade magic tool, Guan Yu's attack wasn't powerful enough to sever the demon's limb completely. Instead, he became entangled with it.

The White Weeping Demon, despite losing one spike, remained just as fierce. It wasn't relying solely on those two spiked limbs. Its lower body was frog-like, with muscular legs that granted it incredible jumping power.

This frog-like physique allowed it to move swiftly in the water and fight on land. Guan Yu, being just a mid-level mage, underestimated it and quickly found himself at a disadvantage, being chased between four buildings by the demon.

Just when it seemed like Guan Yu couldn't hold on any longer, a dark shadow dashed past Jiang Yu at lightning speed!

The dark creature had four limbs, moving with the grace of a night-stalking cat. Its footsteps were so light that no sound could be heard as it raced across the ground.

The creature was as fast as a black arrow, reaching the edge of the rooftop in an instant before pouncing on the White Weeping Demon.

"Meooow~~!!"

The creature let out a cry that sounded very much like a cat, but its drawn-out, eerie tone carried an unsettling mix of ferocity and wildness!

Its body was like a blade, and as it extended its claws, they stretched out from its paws, each one longer than half its arm—resembling a set of sharp rake-like talons!

With this creature's help, the White Weeping Demon was soon defeated and fled into the sea. After dealing with the demon, the black creature jumped back onto the high building.

The black creature turned around, revealing itself as a bipedal cat-like being. It had jet-black fur covering its body but sported white whiskers. Its crescent-shaped eyes combined a mix of alluring charm and sharp menace. The light that reflected from them gave off a regal, highborn air.

Had this creature not just crushed the White Weeping Demon with such ease, most people would have mistaken it for a cute pet. Its proud, disdainful attitude toward humans would make any cat lover go weak in the knees, willing to become its lifelong servant and pamper it endlessly.

"Feifei, come back," Jiang Yu called out. Feeling a bit embarrassed as everyone stared at his contracted beast, he hurriedly called the eye-catching little creature back to him.

"Damn, Jiang Yu! I've always wondered why you never summon your beast to help us get around. Turns out it's this adorable! You should've given it some boots! It looks like the cat from 'Puss in Boots,'" Zhao Manyan joked, but as soon as the cat fixed its eyes on him, he swallowed the rest of his words.

"So cute! I want to hug it~~" Jiang Shaoxu gushed, overwhelmed by her maternal instincts.

"Don't say that. Also, don't touch it. It doesn't like being touched. Even I can't stroke its head," Jiang Yu quickly warned them.

This was his cat master, after all. Even he wasn't allowed to pet it as he pleased.

"What kind of creature is that? Its combat power is insane!" Guan Yu, still somewhat in shock from the earlier events, asked.

"It's a Night Rakshasa, a rare and powerful beast that inhabits the Dark Beast Forest. I was lucky enough to form a contract with it, and it became my contracted beast. But don't be fooled by its appearance. It has a nasty temper and fights like a maniac," Jiang Yu explained.

At this moment, Ai Jiangtu's stern voice interrupted their conversation, "Stop chit-chatting, the sea monster army is here!"

As a guardian mage, Ai Jiangtu wasn't as carefree as the others. His eyes never left the surging seawater below.

Shortly after the White Weeping Demon fell into the sea, a number of creatures with fan-like dorsal fins began surfacing. Their bodies were green, with rough skin, and their lower halves resembled frogs, much like the White Weeping Demon, allowing them to swim in the water and stand on land.

These creatures lacked the spiked limbs of the White Weeping Demon, but their forearms were shaped like circular saw blades, with sharp teeth that could slice through bone with ease.

Sea monsters came in different ranks. Generally, the servant-level ones had scales that were mostly decorative, offering little defense. Their primary protection was their tough skin.

Warrior-level sea monsters, however, had extremely rough, tough skin. Their bodies were often weaponized, making them fearsome in close combat. Commander-level sea monsters, on the other hand, were often equipped with full-body armor or scales, rendering mid-level magic attacks nearly useless against them.

From the appearance of the rough-skinned green monsters, it was clear they were warrior-level creatures.

Though the team could handle these creatures, their relief was short-lived. More heads with fan-like fins began surfacing in the water, filling the entire wide street. From above, it looked like a street full of floating sea urchins, their spiny forms crowding the entire area.

Facing so many warrior-level creatures at once would be far from easy.
