Villain of Dominion

Chapter 15: Chapter 14: Into the Wildlands

The journey west was fraught with danger. The wildlands that lay beyond the borders of the kingdom were untamed and filled with creatures that thrived in the darkness. As the small group of rebels, led by Kael, Aeron, and Seraphine, ventured deeper into the wildlands, the air grew colder, the sky darker. The group was tense, each member watching Kael with suspicion. They whispered behind his back, spoke of his treachery, and wondered when he would turn on them. But none of them had the luxury of leaving; they were bound together by the necessity of survival, by the need to stop what was coming. As they traveled, Kael felt the pull of the ancient magic growing stronger. The closer they got to the ruins, the more he could sense the darkness, lurking just beyond the edge of reality. It whispered to him, calling to the power that still lingered within him, urging him to embrace it once more. But Kael resisted. He had learned from his past mistakes, and he knew that the darkness could not be controlled—it could only be contained. One night, as they camped beneath the stars, Aeron approached Kael, his expression unreadable."You've changed," Aeron said, his voice quiet.Kael looked up at him. "Have I?"Aeron nodded, sitting beside him. "Before, you were reckless. Obsessed with power. But now… there's something different. You're still dangerous, but it's not the same."Kael stared into the fire, the flames dancing in the night. "I made mistakes. I thought power was the answer to everything. But I was wrong. Power without control only leads to destruction."Aeron was silent for a long moment, then spoke again. "Do you think you'll find redemption in all this?"Kael shook his head. "Redemption isn't something I can find. It's something I have to earn—if I ever can."Aeron sighed, running a hand through his hair. "We'll see if that's true."They sat in silence, the fire crackling between them.
