Chapter 67: The witch [2]
It seems like the event with the witch has progressed.
While the option to kill her might have worked, taking the peaceful route seems easier. As someone who has played many games, I understand that using dirty methods usually comes with some form of backlash.
"You actually managed to find World Tree materials!" the witch says with a smile.
Unable to hide her excitement, the naked witch excitedly prattles on.
Although her disheveled hair hides it, the witch is quite a beautiful young girl. As an adult man, I can only describe her as rather youthful. She looks around seventeen or eighteen years old.
"So, where did you get the World Tree material? No, wait, you're an adventurer. It's bad manners to pry information from adventurers. But still... where did you get the World Tree material? I just can't help but ask!"
"This is the power of a god."
"A god? The World? That one doesn't make potions. It only exists to protect us based on its divine values."
"A much greater god. My god."
"Huh?"
Liora's god talk always leaves the listener bewildered.
In this world, it seems there's only The World as the recognized god. Since my stance and that of The World are so different, it's no wonder the NPCs can't make sense of it.
The World seems to have a mixed reputation.
Personally, I don't really dislike The World.
I don't live my life diligently enough to hate airheaded people. And I'm not so capable that I can afford to see such people as enemies.
But that doesn't mean I like it either.
The witch hops around the room with excitement.
A lovely, naked girl is bouncing around, and in sync with her movements, her flesh jiggles. I see.
"Sit down, sit down! What's your name? Welcome to my lab."
"Huh? What about killing you?"
"Huh? Killing? What are you talking about?"
"Huh?"
"Huh? Just sit down."
"Huh?"
In a strange turn of events, Liora sat down with perfect posture.
It seems Samurai is using their [Woodworking] skill to repair the door they destroyed. Fortunately, the door was made of wood.
Samurai seems to be discovering the joy of woodworking.
They'll probably want to build a house eventually, perhaps near the World Tree. My house, created with [Create Dark], is certainly convenient but aesthetically not very pleasing, being all black.
Its strength is also just average.
If Samurai carefully selects materials and builds it—especially using World Tree materials—it could be a near-impenetrable fortress. Or maybe not.
Liora sips the tea that was served.
Apparently, it tastes good. Upon using [Appraisal], I find that it has the effect of recovering mental fatigue. I wonder if we can buy this?
While Liora can ignore mental fatigue, I believe she still feels it.
The witch puts on her witch hat and wraps a robe over her naked body.
"I'm a witch. I've discarded my name. That's why I'm just a witch."
"That's cool. I'll discard my name too. I'll become a servant of God."
"Isn't that a bit long?"
"Long is fine."
I shake my head from side to side.
Even though I don't have a head in my spirit form, Liora somehow senses my movements and understands.
"Liora is Liora."
"I'm me. Liora."
Liora's renaming crisis was averted.
From there, the negotiations proceed. The resurrection potion is rare and fetches a high price. On the table, a pile of gold coins starts to accumulate.
"That's a lot of money."
"Of course! A resurrection potion is something even royalty would kill for. Even if they're poisoned, assassinated, or die suddenly, they can come back to life. A king's job, when you think about it, is just to stay alive."
"An easy job."
"Paradise. Well, it seems like our king doesn't think that way though..."
We ended up selling three potions.
That alone brings in enough money to live comfortably for a year. It wasn't as overpriced as I thought—it was a fair deal.
Apparently, resurrection potions are hard to manage.
Considering the 30-second time limit after death, the frequency of use is extremely low.
"Some people have items or skills suited for preserving things. But unless you keep those near you all the time, they're useless. If the usage window or preservation time was longer, you'd have enough money to live luxuriously for life."
Liora swallows audibly.
One of Liora's original wishes was to "make money as an adventurer." After all, money is a clear and understandable means of mastering life.
Besides, Liora has experience living a slow life.
The joy of not living life desperately is engraved into her young body.
"Together with God forever... heh. No one else is around."
"So, do you have any more World Tree material? I want to use it!"
"I picked that potion up in a dungeon."
"That's impossible. The [Eye of Midlusa] isn't something regular [Appraisal] can detect. It even shows the creator's name. Zephyr made this one, didn't they?"
"Use 'sama' with that name."
"Huh?"
It seems she's onto us.
If it were an item from a dungeon, there wouldn't be a creator. So, the fact that I made it is now out in the open.
Oh well, it can't be helped.
Keeping it secret would've been ideal, but prioritizing secrecy over earning money is pointless.
Besides, it's not for use in combat.
Other players might take notice... but I'll manage somehow.
"Well, leave it to me. I'm a born witch. Buying and selling potions is second nature to me. I'll only sell to those I trust. Now, what about the World Tree material?"
"Liora, let's share a little. She's a better craftsman than me. She might make something amazing."
The World Tree material was created by Liora herself. It wouldn't make sense to give it away without her permission.
Though, it's unlikely Liora will refuse.
Liora nods.
She takes the material out of her item box and starts to lay it out.
"Here. Take this."
"No, I'll buy it! I like you! I don't beg from people I like. It's because we're equals that the next time is allowed, and relationships are formed. A transaction forms an unbreakable bond."
If you give something away unilaterally, that bond can be severed at any time.
However, if there's profit involved, breaking that bond won't be so easy. Though, depending on the person's nature, they might not care.
"Then I'll sell it. How much?" Liora tilts her head.
Even more money was piled up than what we received for the resurrection potions.
Liora's eyes widened in surprise.
"Why is this so expensive?"
"The potions were already processed, and the one who made them is still inexperienced. I can make something even better. In other words, the raw material is rarer."
"God is much greater!"
"Well, for now, Liora, that's just how things work. I can't use my full power in this world."
Liora, after pondering for a moment, nods in agreement.
For now, the transaction is complete. Liora and the witch begin what feels like a tea party. Meanwhile, I start appraising the items in the shop.
I'd like to buy anything useful.
Enjoy new adventures from empire
There are also forced quests, after all.
Liora and the witch chat, surprisingly having a decent conversation. Although Liora is quite bad at explaining things, it seems. The witch, on the other hand, is obsessed with the World Tree material.
"When will you get more World Tree material? I'll probably fail a few times since it's new stuff."
"I'm on a forced mission right now. I'm not sure when I'll get more."
"Oh, is it that bandit group?"
Oh?
This might be important information. I stop appraising and listen to the witch.
"I didn't fight them, but one guy returned. Though it seems he only survived by abandoning his female companion. That's why he hasn't been able to report it to the guild."
"Were they strong?"
"He didn't know. Apparently, their ace fell out of nowhere and started crying, and in that moment, they were surrounded. All the men were killed instantly, but this guy escaped with his agility. The enemy group doesn't seem to be particularly high-level."
From what I hear, it seems like something was done to their minds.
The enemy's combat strength doesn't seem high.
That makes them all the more troublesome. Most likely, some kind of [Title] or [Unique Skill] is at play here.
"If it's a forced mission, you'll have to fight. I'm not much for combat myself, but I can prepare something to defend against mental attacks."
"Thank you."
"Don't mention it. It's for the World Tree material and, besides, you seem like you'll bring me more interesting things in the future."
The witch prepared several items to defend against mental attacks.
No matter how strong you are, mental attacks are always troublesome.
A doll that takes the mental attack for you, a hair ornament that cures confusion, a mirror to break free from brainwashing—all sorts of items.
Sixty percent of the money we earned from selling the resurrection potions vanished in the process.
