Chapter 83: Battle of Haven

Rinko swung his sword with precision, his movements fluid and calculated. Hazel, however, dismissed the attack with a casual swipe of his massive hand, as though swatting away a fly.

In the distance, Watts disappeared deeper into Haven Academy, choosing an alternate path toward his escape ship.

Rinko leapt into the air, his blade arcing downward in a deadly slash. Hazel caught the sword mid-swing with his bare hand, the sheer strength of his grip stopping the blade cold.

Rinko anticipated this. Letting go of his weapon, he propelled himself forward, lightning crackling around his hand as he activated White Lightning. The energy surged, forming into a focused blade of electricity—a move he likened to Raikiri.

With unrelenting speed, Rinko thrust his electrified hand toward Hazel's chest, the energy slicing through his aura and piercing his torso. The blade didn't fully exit through the back, but the impact was enough to draw blood. Hazel coughed violently, red staining his lips.

And yet, he didn't flinch.

Rinko's instincts screamed at him. Without hesitation, he yanked his hand free and leapt backward just as Hazel's massive fist slammed into the ground.

BOOM!

The entire academy trembled under the force of Hazel's strike, debris falling from the walls and ceiling.

Rinko landed gracefully, catching his sword mid-air before it hit the ground. His gaze sharpened as he studied his opponent.

'He tanked my White Lightning...' Rinko thought, eyes narrowing as he analyzed Hazel's movements. His grip on the sword tightened. 'If I take even one punch, my aura will shatter instantly.'

Hazel remained unfazed, wiping a bead of sweat from his temple. It wasn't from fear—just the heat in the damn room.

"I'll play with you for a while," Hazel growled, his voice a low rumble. He began to stride forward, each step deliberate and heavy.

Rinko's sharp eyes focused on Hazel's joints. A plan formed in his mind.

'That's it.'

With a flicker of glyphs beneath his feet, Rinko vanished in a blur of motion. Hazel's brow furrowed as Rinko darted behind him, his blade slicing cleanly across the back of Hazel's knee.

Hazel staggered, his knee buckling momentarily under the precise strike. Rinko used a mid-air glyph to halt his momentum, launching himself upward. With his sword raised, he prepared a decisive slash aimed directly at Hazel's neck.

But Hazel wasn't finished. With a snarl, he stabbed a fire dust crystal into his shoulder. His body flared with energy, muscles bulking unnaturally as flames danced along his form.

In a split second, Hazel turned to meet Rinko's descending attack.

CRUNCH!

Hazel caught the blade—not with his hand, but with his teeth. The sword splintered, fragments scattering like shards of glass.

Time seemed to slow as Rinko's eyes widened in disbelief.

'W-what?!'

Hazel's fiery gaze locked onto Rinko, a predatory grin spreading across his face.

"You'll need more than that," Hazel rumbled, spitting out the remaining shards of Rinko's weapon.

'Shit!' Rinko's mind raced as he saw Hazel's fist barreling toward him.

Reacting on pure instinct, Rinko raised his knee and arm to block the punch, his aura absorbing the brunt of the impact. Even so, the force of the blow sent him skidding backward, his aura visibly flickering from the strain.

'One hit drained that much...' Rinko thought grimly, his eyes narrowing.

He was lucky.

He glanced briefly at the broken remnants of his sword before tossing it aside.

Hazel exhaled steadily, the sound almost a rumble, as he resumed his steady march toward Rinko.

Meanwhile, Lendy danced around Emerald's erratic swings, her movements graceful and taunting. The bright pink of her outfit only fueled Emerald's growing frustration.

"You're an eyesore!" Emerald spat, lunging with a wild slash.

Lendy sidestepped effortlessly and delivered a sharp kick to Emerald's face.

"Argh!" Emerald staggered back, only for Lendy to seize her by the hair and deliver a vicious slice across her chest, further chipping away at her aura.

"You bitch!" Emerald roared, swinging wildly again, but Lendy flipped away at the last second, her movements infuriatingly precise.

"Oops, too shallow. Next strike's gonna be lethal—I promise~," Lendy teased, winking.

Emerald's growl deepened, rage boiling over.

Not far away, Yohan and Mercury clashed fiercely, Mercury's relentless kicks meeting Yohan's dual swords in a flurry of sparks.

"Is kicking all you know? You fight like a girl!" Yohan sneered, blocking another strike.

"Please, I'm just warming up!" Mercury shot back, feinting a high kick.

Yohan instinctively raised his sword to block, only to grunt in pain as Mercury delivered a swift punch to his side. Staggered, Yohan barely had time to react before a powerful kick struck his face, sending him sprawling.

"You fight like a moron," Mercury chuckled, confidence oozing from his tone.

Yohan wiped blood from his nose, growling, "You're dead!" as he charged again.

Rinko's focus never wavered from Hazel, who pierced himself with yet another Dust crystal. This time, lightning coursed through his body, his form bulking even more.

'He's stronger than before...' Rinko's mind raced.

He pulled a kunai from his pouch and hurled it at Hazel, who caught it effortlessly and crushed it in his fist. But Hazel's gaze sharpened as he noticed Rinko already in front of him, a blur of motion amplified by his glyphs.

Time seemed to slow.

White Lightning sparked to life in Rinko's hand, forming a glowing blade. Hazel prepared his body to tank the incoming strike. He thought that this strike was like the last time.

But this time, Rinko had other plans.

As Hazel moved to intercept, Rinko's lightning blade elongated, the lightning lashing out toward Hazel's head. Hazel's eyes widened, instinctively leaning back to avoid the strike. His gaze flicked upward—only to meet Rinko's cold, determined stare.

Rinko now stood upside down on a glyph above Hazel, his body taut with focus. In his hand, he held a live grenade packed with Fire Dust.

Rinko moved so fast, he left an afterimage.

'What..?!' Hazel thought of how Rinko managed to get above him so quickly. Hazel's shock was palpable as he stared at Rinko just above him.

Rinko dropped down, slamming the grenade into Hazel's open mouth as he yanked the pin. "Chew on this," he hissed, disappearing in a flash of glyph-enhanced speed.

BOOM!

The explosion roared through the space, engulfing Hazel in a fiery eruption. The walls trembled from the force, and smoke filled the air.

Rinko landed a safe distance away, his breath coming in short bursts as he stared into the haze. His mind remained sharp, his body tensed, waiting to see if Hazel would rise from the flames.

As he expected, he walked out of the flames like it was nothing. Hazel's shirt was ripped up a bit as he simply patted his shoulder like it was nothing.

"You've gotta be kidding me.." Rinko gazes on Hazel, trying to find anything that could turn the tide of battle.

Outside

Sienna and Adam clashed fiercely, the sharp ring of metal echoing through the air as sparks flew with every strike. Adam struggled to avoid the relentless strikes of Sienna's chained weapon, her Cerberus Whip lashing out like a living predator.

Sienna's Semblance, Grudge, turned the tide in her favor. Each strike she landed fed her strength and speed, making her more formidable with every blow. Her attacks became faster, heavier, and more precise as she chipped away at Adam's aura.

But Adam wasn't one to falter. His precision and agility matched her growing ferocity. He weaved and ducked through the whip's deadly arcs, calculating her movements. Spotting an opening, he hurled Wilt with pinpoint accuracy toward her.

Sienna reacted instantly, snapping her whip back to deflect the flying blade with a resounding clang. The force sent Wilt spinning back toward Adam, who caught it mid-air and seamlessly transitioned into a flurry of strikes.

Their movements blurred as they traded blow for blow, afterimage upon afterimage. Despite Sienna's mounting strength, Adam's relentless assault kept her at bay. It was clear—if Sienna could land more hits, she would overpower him entirely.

In a flash of movement, Sienna's whip coiled around Adam's wrist like a serpent. With a powerful yank, she pulled him off balance, drawing him toward her.

"Got you!" she snarled.

Before Adam could react, Sienna delivered a devastating kick to his chest. The blow landed with bone-rattling force, amplified by her Semblance. Adam staggered back, breathless, the impact rippling through his body.

Sienna smirked, her predatory confidence growing as her aura flared. "You're running out of tricks, Adam."

Adam gritted his teeth, regaining his footing as he readied Wilt once more, its crimson blade catching the pale moonlight. "You've only seen the beginning."

The tension between them crackled, the air charged with hostility.

Then, Sienna's sharp gaze caught a faint glint above—something reflective. A sniper scope.

The shot rang out.

Sienna twisted to the side in a split-second evasion, the bullet whizzing past her shoulder. In the same instant, Adam surged forward, closing the distance between them.

From another angle, two more sniper shots fired.

Sienna moved with precision and grace, seamlessly attacking and defending against Adam's strikes while dodging the incoming fire. Her movements were a deadly dance, flipping and weaving through the chaos as her whip lashed out.

Adam pressed his assault, his blade slashing in calculated arcs, but Sienna was faster. Using her momentum, she flipped over him, her whip snapping around his neck like a constricting serpent.

As she landed gracefully behind him, another sniper bullet whizzed by, grazing her cheek. She didn't flinch. Instead, with a sharp tug of her whip, she yanked Adam off his feet and slammed him to the ground.

"Urgh!" Adam grunted, his aura flickering under the force of the impact.

Before he could recover, Sienna pulled again, hoisting him into the air. The whip remained taut around his neck, her grip unyielding.

Sienna's piercing amber eyes locked onto the distant sniper positions. She maneuvered Adam's body into a shield, his struggling form blocking any clear shots. The snipers hesitated.

"Rghh!" Adam growled, clawing at the chain constricting his throat, his strength waning.

Sienna leaned closer, her voice a low growl. "I taught you better than this, Adam. You're a disgrace."

Adam's glare burned with fury, but he couldn't break free, the weight of her dominance pressing down on him both physically and emotionally.

Suddenly, the ground behind her shook as a bulky Faunus, wielding a massive sword, charged toward Sienna from behind.

Her ears twitched at the sound of his heavy footsteps. Sienna released her grip on Adam, kicking him off the ground with a powerful strike as she sidestepped the incoming blow with fluid precision.

The snipers seized their chance, firing as Adam fell out of Sienna's grasp.

The bullets, however, found an unintended target—their own comrade. The charging Faunus staggered and collapsed, blood staining his uniform as he fell to the ground with a dull thud.

Sienna didn't waste a second. Her chained whip twirled across her wrist as she smoothly pulled the fallen Faunus's rifle into her grasp.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Three perfectly aimed shots rang out, and the distant glint of sniper scopes shattered into oblivion.

Sienna discarded the rifle with an air of disdain, her foot driving into the bulky Faunus's chest as he attempted to rise. The force of the blow sent him crashing back into the ground, unconscious. Every strike Sienna delivered was devastating—her Semblance, Grudge, amplifying her strength exponentially with every successful attack.

Adam stumbled back to his feet, his breath ragged. He gripped Wilt tightly, his gaze darting between Sienna and the fallen bodies around her.

It was almost impossible to stop her now. Her aura pulsed like a storm, her movements sharp and purposeful, her golden eyes turned behind her as she looked at Adam, gleaming with deadly intent.

Adam swallowed hard, sweat trickling down his temple, but he forced himself to stand firm. "You're strong, Sienna. But strength alone doesn't win wars."

Sienna smirked, her confidence unshaken. "And yet, here you are—barely standing. Are you going to keep talking, or do I have to teach you another lesson?"

The tension between them crackled like a live wire, the battlefield growing eerily quiet as the remaining fighters paused to witness the clash of ideals embodied in this duel.

"I've had enough!" Adam roared, his voice echoing through the stillness.

He raised Wilt, its crimson blade pulsating with raw energy, charged from their earlier clashes. With a ferocious swing, he unleashed a massive arc of energy slicing through the air toward Sienna.

She braced herself, her grip tightening on her Cerberus Whip, ready to dodge the attack. But just as she prepared to counter, a faint, sharp sound caught her ears—a single gunshot.

The Faunus she had incapacitated earlier had weakly raised a pistol, firing a single bullet into her back. The shot struck her aura, causing a flicker of instability.

The split-second distraction was all Adam needed.

His projectile slammed into Sienna, shattering the Cerberus Whip into two useless fragments and tearing through her aura. The impact struck her torso, slicing through flesh and forcing the air from her lungs.

It wasn't lethal—thanks to her aura absorbing most of the damage, she would've been cut in half.

"Ugh—!" Sienna choked, blood staining her lips as she staggered backward.

The Faunus who fired the shot slumped to the ground, his aura extinguished from sheer exhaustion.

Sienna collapsed, her legs giving out as she hit the ground, one hand instinctively clutching her wounded chest. Disbelief clouded her golden eyes as she stared at Adam, her body trembling from pain and anger.

Adam, towering above her, began to laugh—a cold, bitter sound that echoed through the battlefield. His shoulders shook with unrestrained glee, his crimson blade resting at his side as he reveled in his moment of triumph.

"Is this it, Sienna?" Adam mocked, his voice dripping with venom. "The mighty High Leader of the White Fang, brought low by her own arrogance?"

Sienna coughed, blood staining her lips, but her eyes blazed with defiance. "Screw you, Adam... I trusted you, believed in you. But you're nothing more than a delusional fool."

Adam's smirk faltered for a brief second before returning, sharper than ever. "You don't get to speak after everything you've failed to protect." He raised Wilt, the blade glinting ominously in the moonlight, poised to deliver the final blow.

"Goodbye, Sienna."

Just as he prepared to strike, a voice rang out across the battlefield.

"ADAM! STOP!"

Adam froze mid-swing, the voice cutting through the chaos like a blade. He turned toward its source, eyes narrowing as recognition set in.

Blake.

Silhouetted against the shattered moon, her figure stood atop a nearby rooftop. The battlefield seemed to hold its breath, her voice echoing with determination.

"Blake..." Ruby muttered, stunned as she clashed with a White Fang member.

"She's back!" Yang shouted, her face lighting up with both relief and anger as she took down an opponent.

Team RWBY and JNPR momentarily broke focus, eyes widening in disbelief and hope at Blake's sudden return.

Adam's gaze locked onto Blake, his grip tightening on Wilt. "Blake."

"It's over, Adam!" Blake called out, her voice carrying across the battlefield. "This ends here."

Adam's lips curled into a sharp grin. "You should know better, Blake. Nothing ends until our people are avenged."

"You're blind, Adam!" Blake snapped, stepping closer, her movements firm and deliberate.

Adam's grin faltered, replaced by a cold sneer. "Here we go again. You just don't understand, do you? The world is a dark place, Blake. You're still naïve, still clinging to the illusion of hope. Grow up."

Blake clenched her fists, her voice unwavering. "And what does your vision bring, Adam? More pain? More suffering? Is that all you have left?"

Adam's expression darkened, his voice low and biting. "Why are you here, Blake? Are you here to fight me? To stop me?"

Blake didn't answer immediately, taking a slow, steady breath. Her resolve burned in her amber eyes. "I'm here to stop you, Adam. To take back my people and end this madness."

Adam chuckled coldly, the sound hollow. "Big words, Blake. Coming from someone who always runs when things get hard."

Blake exhaled sharply, stepping off the roof and landing gracefully onto the cobblestone path. She stood tall, facing Adam head-on, her stance resolute.

"I'm done running, Adam."

As she spoke, the night sky illuminated with flashing lights. Airships descended, their powerful spotlights sweeping across Haven Academy. The rumble of engines grew louder as police ships surrounded the area, joined by Menagerie's guards.

Adam's expression twisted in disbelief. "What...?"

Amid the chaos, Superintendant Yami stepped to the edge of one of the airships, his voice booming over the battlefield.

"Sorry, boys! Had to take a little detour to Menagerie. Things got... complicated."

The sight of the fleet caused a ripple of hesitation among the White Fang forces. As the police surrounded Haven, civilians armed with improvised weapons began pouring in. They weren't just anyone—they were Faunus from Menagerie.

One White Fang member lowered his weapon, his voice trembling. "M-Mom...?"

A woman stepped forward, her voice filled with both love and sorrow. "Junior, stop this. Please."

More White Fang soldiers faltered, their resolve wavering in the face of family and neighbors standing against them.

Adam's teeth clenched, his composure cracking as his fury boiled over. "What is this?! What have you done, Blake?!"

Blake's voice rang out, clear and unwavering, cutting through the chaos.

"I told you, Adam. It's over."

Adam growled in frustration, his grip tightening on Wilt. "Rghh!"

Blake stepped forward, her amber eyes burning with determination. "Yes, the humans hurt us. They oppressed us, silenced us, and ignored our suffering. But not all of them were guilty." Her voice carried across the battlefield, unwavering. "Not all of them caused us pain. Not all of them stood by. And yet we were willing to hurt them all. We stood by as even the innocent were killed. No more, Adam. This cycle has to end."

Adam's snarl deepened, his voice laced with anger and pain. "End? You think it just ends? Whether they knew it or not, they're all complicit! They have to pay for what they did to us! This is justice! It's vengeance for every Faunus who suffered and died at their hands!"

"And what will killing them accomplish?" Blake countered, her voice rising with emotion. "It only proves that we're no better. Worse, even, because we're willing to burn down everything to spite them! But we don't have to do that, Adam. We can forge a better tomorrow—"

"NO!" Adam's roar cut her off, his defiance sharp as a blade. He took a step forward, his crimson aura crackling around him. "No, we can't! You and your family were always soft! You clung to your ideals while others suffered! How many more had to die because you hesitated?!"

He paused, his fists trembling, his voice cracking under the weight of his memories.

"Gerald... Hela... Thorskin... Manny... James... Fiend... Uriel... Alex... Sarah... Tina..." His voice grew quieter with each name, his anger bleeding into sorrow. "All of them... our friends. They're gone, Blake! Dead because of them!"

The battlefield fell into a heavy silence. Even the skirmishes in the distance seemed to waver, the weight of Adam's words pressing down on everyone.

Adam looked away, his eyes shadowed with grief. His voice dropped, filled with a bitter finality. "No. We can't work together. Not until they pay for what they've done."

Sienna's voice broke the tension, soft yet resolute. "Adam..."

He turned to her, startled by her tone.

"Please," Sienna said, struggling to push herself up, her body battered but her spirit unbroken. "Stop this. For all our sakes. You're stronger than this. Don't let vengeance consume you."

Adam's gaze flickered, torn between fury, grief, and doubt, as the weight of Sienna's words pressed on him.

The battlefield fell still. Team RWBY, Team JNPR, and the Faunus civilians froze, their attention locked on the confrontation. The tension was palpable, every breath held as they watched Adam, Blake, and Sienna.

A heavy silence lingered, stretching into agonizing minutes. Finally, Adam gritted his teeth, his expression hardening into grim determination. Slowly, he reached into his coat and pulled out a small detonator.

The sight of the device sent a ripple of alarm through the crowd.

"I-I already disarmed the bombs!" Weiss shouted, her voice cutting through the quiet.

A defeated White Fang member near her spoke, his tone heavy with resignation. "Not all of them... Some are hidden too well. If Adam presses that button, Haven will still be destroyed." His gaze drifted to a Faunus woman among the civilians—his mother. The sight of her softened his defiance, and he lowered his weapon.

Adam raised the detonator high, his thumb hovering over the button.

"THOSE WHO STILL BELIEVE IN FIGHTING FOR A BETTER TOMORROW," Adam bellowed, his voice carrying across the battlefield, "RUN TO THE HILLSIDE! WE WILL RETREAT NOW!"

He turned to face the police ships hovering above. "LET MY PEOPLE GO, BUT IF ANYONE FOLLOWS, EVERYONE HERE WILL BE REDUCED TO ASHES!"

Superintendent Yami bit his lip, his expression tight with frustration. "Shit," he muttered, clearly torn.

Half of the White Fang hesitated, then turned, retreating under Adam's command, dragging their weapons behind them. But the other half remained, unwilling to follow his orders. They threw down their masks and embraced their families, defying Adam's wishes.

Adam cast a brief, bitter glance at the defectors. "Traitors..." he snarled under his breath.

Minutes passed, and the White Fang began to retreat in full. Slowly, Adam backed away, his expression hardening. But before he could retreat further, a blur of movement slammed into him.

Sun, with a fierce grin, tackled Adam to the ground, knocking the detonator from his grasp.

"Gotcha!" Sun shouted.

"Rgh!" Adam growled, his fist swinging out as he pressed the button.

"NO!" The cry went up, but there was no explosion. Instead, the air was still.

Ilia stepped from the shadows, a confident smirk on her face. "All disarmed. You're out of options, Adam."

"TRAITORS!" Adam roared, his eyes burning with rage. He turned and elbowed Sun in the jaw, throwing him off as he scrambled to his feet.

Just as Adam made a move, a new wave of White Fang soldiers surged forward, their weapons raised.

"Let's go, Adam! The White Fang still needs you!" one of his followers shouted, covering his retreat as they fired on the advancing police, forcing them to back up toward the trees.

Adam's eyes flared with fury. He whirled around, but the police had already taken cover. Blake, crouched behind a pillar, watched as Sienna ducked and shielded her neck, a helpless look on her face.

The White Fang members, along with Adam, slipped into the shadows. Above, the airships' headlights swept across the field, but in the confusion, Adam vanished without a trace. All that remained was the fading hum of engines.

A police officer approached Blake, her voice firm but kind. "The police will handle this, Miss Belladonna. Stay tight."

Blake nodded, her thoughts still heavy with the weight of the confrontation. Her gaze lingered on the darkened area where Adam had disappeared, the battle's toll sinking in.

Sun appeared beside her, his voice softer now. "He's gone, Blake."

Blake didn't answer immediately. She stood in silence, letting the words settle. Then, before she could say anything else, arms wrapped around her—Ruby's arms.

"BLAKE!" Ruby cried, her voice thick with emotion. Tears welled in her eyes.

One by one, Team RWBY and Team JNPR gathered around her, pulling her into a tight embrace, their comfort palpable.

Yang gave Blake a warm pat on the back, her voice filled with relief. "Glad you're back, bud!"

Weiss, her eyes glistening with unshed tears, forced a smile through her pain. "Blake... Welcome back."

Ruby, her voice trembling with sincerity, whispered, "Don't leave us again, Blake..."

Blake's chest tightened, her emotions overwhelming her. "Guys..." she whispered, her voice full of regret. "I'm... I'm so sorry for leaving all of you..."

They clung to her for a moment, offering comfort, but their reunion was cut short by a sudden explosion inside Haven Academy.

"RINKO!" Yang shouted, her eyes wide in alarm.

Blake's expression shifted, her eyes snapping open in realization. "What? Rinko's here?"

Ruby's voice was urgent. "Yes! They're fighting in Haven Academy!"

Without hesitation, Blake's resolve hardened. "Then let's get to it!"

"Let's go, Team!" Jaune commanded, as the rest of Team JNPR nodded.

"We're with you!" Pyrrha said from behind, offering reassurance.

Sienna, still struggling to her feet, was helped up by Sun. She coughed as she winced in pain. "Go... Help that Schnee brat!" she urged.

"I got this! Go!" Sun encouraged, pushing them forward.

Team RWBY and Team JNPR exchanged determined glances, their focus shifting to the task at hand. They nodded in unison, ready to act.

With no time to waste, they sprinted toward the entrance of Haven Academy, their hearts pounding with urgency.
