Chapter 16: Unveiled Feelings
Yvienna woke up, stretching her arms as a yawn escaped her lips. She moved her foot, relieved to feel minimal pain. A week had passed so quickly. She stood up and made her way to the bathroom. After a refreshing bath, she took her time getting ready. Once she was finished, she headed downstairs. The scent of hot coffee lingered in the air.
"Oh, darling, you're awake! Come here and eat your breakfast," her mother called warmly, guiding her to a chair. Yvienna smiled as she sat down. The meal was delicious, and she couldn't help but let out a small burp once she finished. Her mother chuckled, and Yvienna blushed in embarrassment.
Standing up, her mother handed her bag to her. "Thanks, I'm going now!" Yvienna waved her hand before stepping outside. She saw the family driver and smiled at him when their eyes met. Climbing into the car, she felt the comfort of a smooth ride as the driver navigated the streets gently.
In a surprisingly good mood, Yvienna exited the car once they arrived in front of the university. She was about to enter when a familiar scent reached her nose. Her eyes darted around, and her stomach twisted when she saw him. Kyle. He walked closer, his signature smile gracing his face.
"How's your foot?" he asked, and Yvienna's heart skipped a beat. The sudden rush of emotion stole her breath, and her knees wobbled. Her smile faded. Why was Kyle always talking to her?
"Don't ruin my good mood, understand?" she muttered, rolling her eyes before walking faster to avoid him. She hurried toward the classroom and slipped inside, taking a seat next to Tiffany.
"Oh, are you okay?" Tiffany asked, noticing Yvienna's flushed face. Yvienna nodded, wiping the sweat that had formed on her forehead. She felt Kyle's presence lingering near her, and a deep unease settled in. Glancing up, she saw him standing, eyes focused on her face. He sighed softly before placing a handkerchief on her desk.
"Wipe your sweat," he said quietly before turning to leave.
Yvienna watched him as he moved to the front row, but quickly looked away when their eyes met. Tiffany grabbed the handkerchief, wiping Yvienna's sweat with a smile. The professor entered the room, and soon their lesson began. Afterward, they moved on to the next class. As usual, Yvienna found herself sitting between Tiffany and Kyle, their schedules aligning.
She could feel Kyle's gaze on her from the corner of her eye. She wanted to argue with him, to shout at him, but instead, she forced herself to ignore him. It wasn't easy. She admitted to herself that she enjoyed the attention, even though she tried to suppress the happiness it brought her. She didn't want to fall for him. Not again. Not with someone who had a girlfriend.
The bell rang, signaling the end of class. Yvienna stood up and hooked her arm around Tiffany's shoulder.
"Let's eat," she said. Tiffany nodded, and the two headed toward the cafeteria. Yvienna didn't see Kyle, and honestly, she was relieved. She didn't want to face him right now.
They found an empty table, and Yvienna began to eat. But before she could take her first bite, she felt a presence beside her. Kyle. He sat down without permission, flashing her a mischievous grin.
"What are you doing here?" Yvienna asked, trying to hide the irritation in her voice.
"I want to eat with you," he replied nonchalantly.
Yvienna clenched her fists, ready to protest, but before she could, a voice called out to Kyle.
"Kyle!" A beautiful woman waved at him from across the cafeteria. She walked toward them, and Yvienna's eyes widened. She had long, silky black hair and smooth, pale skin, looking like a model. Her dimples flashed as she smiled at Kyle, and Yvienna's heart sank.
"Baby!" Kyle stood up quickly and enveloped her in a hug, drawing the attention of the entire cafeteria. Yvienna's stomach twisted painfully as she watched them. Was this his girlfriend? She certainly looked the part.
The woman smiled sweetly at Kyle before they walked off together, hand in hand. A sharp pain cut through Yvienna's chest. Was this all just a game to Kyle? Maybe he didn't mean the words he'd said to her. Maybe he was just flirting. It hurt. She felt like a fool.
Tiffany, sensing her discomfort, teasingly remarked, "Smells like someone's jealous." Yvienna shot her a glare, but Tiffany just laughed.
"I'm not jealous!" Yvienna gritted her teeth.
"Oops, relax, bestie," Tiffany said with a chuckle.
Yvienna's appetite vanished. She stood up, ready to leave, but Tiffany caught her arm.
"Let's go!" Tiffany urged, and they headed to their next class. Kyle was nowhere to be seen, and Yvienna assumed he was with his girlfriend. He hadn't attended his classes, which confirmed her suspicions.
The day passed in a blur, and after class, Tiffany headed home while Yvienna remained behind. Standing alone in front of the university, she sent a message to her driver, telling him not to come pick her up. She decided to walk home on her own.
Her feet led her without much thought, and soon she found herself standing beneath a tree.
"Hey!" someone poked her cheek from behind. Yvienna turned sharply, and her eyes widened in surprise when she saw Kyle.
"Why are you here?" she asked, her voice tinged with frustration.
"I drove Baby Anne to her home," he explained casually.
The mention of his girlfriend, Baby Anne, made a knot form in Yvienna's stomach. Why did it hurt so much? Why was he talking to her after dropping his girlfriend off?
"Why are you here?" she asked again, her voice trembling with barely contained emotion.
Kyle looked confused. "What?" he asked, not understanding the depth of her feelings.
"Why are you always following me?" Yvienna finally snapped. "Why are you so concerned about me? You have a girlfriend, right? The girl you just called 'baby,' right?!" Her breath came in ragged bursts as she pointed a finger at him, shaking with anger and confusion.
Kyle's eyes widened in surprise. He let out a soft laugh, though he quickly bit his lower lip to stifle it.
"You're so idiotic, mi amor," he said, his voice tender.
Yvienna froze as he reached out to gently touch her chin, making her heart race. His touch sent shivers down her spine.
"She's my cousin, Baby Anne," he clarified with a chuckle. "I call her 'baby' because that's her first name,"
Yvienna's cheeks turned crimson in embarrassment. She didn't know what to say. Kyle smiled at her, and then, to her shock, he leaned in and kissed her forehead softly.
Her body stiffened, her feet going numb from the sensation. Her heart thudded in her chest, and she felt her breath catch in her throat. Before she could even process it, Kyle wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace, his touch gentle and warm.
"I think I'm starting to fall deeper for you," he whispered against her hair.
Yvienna's heart skipped a beat, unsure of what to feel or how to react to the overwhelming emotions swirling within her.
