Chapter 5: Sweet Revenge and Sour Moments
"Bravo, Ms. Mendoza! Bravo!" their professor exclaimed.
"Thank you," Yvienna replied with a small, satisfied smile. She sat back down, her gaze drifting sideways.
"I know I'm pretty, so stop staring at me," she said, directing the words to Kyle, who was still looking her way. "What?! You're so full of yourself!" Kyle shot back, irritation clear in his voice. Yvienna smirked at him before turning her attention back to their professor, who had already resumed the lesson.
After class ended, Yvienna headed home, her mind buzzing with the day's lessons. She quickly found comfort in the familiar routine of settling onto her bed. Her phone rang just as she began to relax, interrupting her thoughts.
It was Tiffany, calling to ask about the lessons earlier. Yvienna quickly sent her notes, and after hanging up, she got up and went downstairs to grab a bite to eat. A meal was just what she needed to recharge. After eating, she followed through with her usual skincare routine, letting the familiar motions ease her into relaxation.
Time seemed to slip by quickly. One week had passed since her first day of college, and in that week, she had remained focused on her studies even though a flirt, Kyle keep irritating her. Her father had promised to grant her wishes if she worked hard, and that was enough motivation to keep her on track. As Yvienna approached the entrance to the university, she heard someone call her name.
"Best friend!" She turned to find Tiffany running toward her, a playful grin on her face. "Ewww, you're sweating!" Yvienna teased, eyeing her friend with mock disgust.
"Oh, please! It's normal!" Tiffany shot back, laughing.
"Whatever," Yvienna said, handing her a handkerchief. "Here, wipe your sweat."
"Thanks! Let's go!" Tiffany grinned, and the two of them walked inside together.
They made their way to their seats. Yvienna retrieved her tumbler and took a sip of juice, "Best friend, I have a question," Tiffany said suddenly, her tone teasing. Yvienna looked at her curiously. "What?"
"Do you like Kyle?" Tiffany asked with a mischievous glint in her eyes. Yvienna's eyes widened in surprise. "What?!" she exclaimed, spilling her juice onto Tiffany's face. "That's your question?"
"Tch, ewww!" Tiffany wiped her face with Yvienna's handkerchief, looking mildly annoyed. "You didn't have to spill your juice on me!"
"I don't like him," Yvienna muttered, crossing her arms. "We're enemies now. I don't care if he's good-looking." she continued. Tiffany smirked, clearly enjoying her best friend's discomfort. "You're so cute when you're in denial." Yvienna gave her a playful hit on the head. "Stop teasing me!"
"Okay, okay!" Tiffany laughed. "But remember, be careful. Do you remember Nathan?" At the mention of Nathan's name, Yvienna stiffened. The boy who had broken her heart. She didn't want to remember her high school life; it was full of disappointment and unnecessary drama.
"I know, I know," Yvienna muttered, trying to brush off the painful memory. Just as the conversation was about to continue, their professor entered the room, and the topic was quickly dropped as they focused on the lesson.
During lunch, Yvienna and Tiffany were sitting together in the cafeteria when they were interrupted by a voice.
"Oh, the ugly girl is here," Cassandra sneered, looking at Yvienna with disdain.
"Yeah, because you're here," Yvienna shot back, rolling her eyes. Tiffany snickered beside her. "How dare you!" the woman retorted. Before Yvienna could react, the girl snatched Yvienna's fries and threw them to the floor. Her smirk only fueled the fire inside Yvienna. She stood up, crossing her arms defiantly.
"Your attitude and your face are both ugly, wow! It's a tie!" Yvienna quipped, a laugh escaping her lips.
"We're the same!" the woman snapped.
"No, we're not," Yvienna replied coolly. "I'm pretty, and you're... well, you're not. I brush my teeth. Do you?" she teased, watching the woman nervously sniff her breath. "Ahh! You're getting on my nerves!" the girl hissed.
"Do I look like I care?" Yvienna shot back, standing her ground.
The girl raised her hand, clearly about to slap Yvienna, but Yvienna was quicker. She grabbed the girl's wrist, slapped her back, and pushed her away.
"Tiffany, let's go," Yvienna said, not looking back as she walked away. As they left, Yvienna waved at the girl and her friends.
"Bye, bitches!" she called, her voice dripping with sarcasm. Tiffany was still laughing as they walked down the hall.
"You're unbelievable," Tiffany shook her head.
Yvienna chuckled. Suddenly, someone grabbed her arm. She turned to find a girl standing there, a nervous smile on her face. "Hi!" the girl greeted. Yvienna pulled her arm away and was about to walk off when the girl quickly stepped in front of her.
"I'm Lucy!" she said, introducing herself as if it mattered.
"I'm not asking," Yvienna replied bluntly, clearly uninterested.
"Can you please help me? I need you to give this cake to Kyle. I know you two are blockmates," Lucy asked, a hopeful look in her eyes. Yvienna was about to refuse when Tiffany jumped in, grabbing the cake box from Lucy's hands.
"Okay! Give it to him bestie. Don't be shy! You two are close right?!" Tiffany teased. Yvienna gave her a stunned look but reluctantly took the cake.
"Thanks so much!" Lucy said with a smile before walking off.
"What the heck? Why did you do that?" Yvienna asked Tiffany, her voice tinged with disbelief.
"Hahaha, just give it to him, don't be shy!" Tiffany teased, nudging her playfully. Yvienna rolled her eyes but took the cake, making her way to the court. Luckily, she spotted Kyle sitting on a chair.
"Hey, stupid! Someone wants to give this to you," she called, holding up the box. Kyle glanced at the cake, he opened the box without grabbing it from her hand then turned away, uninterested. His friends began teasing him.
"Hey! I didn't give this to him!" Yvienna shot back, but just as she was about to hand it to him, someone shoved Kyle toward her. Before she could react, the cake splattered all over her face. "Oh, no!" she groaned as laughter erupted from the students around them. Kyle laughed loudly, clearly enjoying her embarrassment. Yvienna smirked as she walked up to him, crossing her arms. "What are you doing?" he asked, his voice filled with confusion.
Without warning, she kicked him in the groin. "F*CK! Ouch!" Kyle yelped, clutching himself as the crowd burst into laughter. Yvienna turned to Tiffany, who was grinning from ear to ear. "So unbelievable! I didn't expect his action towards you!" Tiffany said. Yvienna grabbed the towel Tiffany offered and began wiping her face. "Let's go to the restroom," she said, feeling both embarrassed and satisfied at the same time.
Tiffany nodded eagerly, still laughing. They made their way to the restroom, where Yvienna washed her face while Tiffany continued to giggle. "Oh my gosh! His face was so red! Hahaha!"
"Hahaha! It's his fault! He laughed at me, so I laughed back at him. Now we're even!" Yvienna said, her grin matching Tiffany's.
