Chapter 7: Racing Dreams
Avoiding thoughts about Kyle, she decided to go to her room and have a good sleep. The morning sun streamed through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. Yvienna slowly opened her eyes, stretching her limbs as the warmth of the new day filled the space. The distant sounds of birds chirping and the gentle rustling of the wind outside reminded her of the peaceful mornings back in Canada.
A slight smile tugged at the corner of her lips as her mind wandered to the past, recalling the time when her father had taught her how to drive. It was one of those rare, precious moments they shared together. The memory made her heart swell with warmth, but she quickly snapped back to the present when a familiar voice cut through her thoughts.
She looked at the hem of her room's door in surprise, and her eyes widened when she saw her father entering the room. Without thinking, Yvienna immediately stood up and rushed toward him, wrapping her arms around him in a tight, enthusiastic hug.
"Good morning, my beautiful daughter," he said warmly, patting her head affectionately. "Good morning, Daddy!" Yvienna replied with a bright smile, feeling the love and security of his embrace. They went down to their living room, her father smiled before casually sitting down on the couch, reaching for the remote control. His eyes briefly flickered to the television, but as always, his attention was never fully on it for long. He began flicking through channels, momentarily distracted by the array of shows on the screen.
Yvienna, still buzzing with the excitement from her driving lesson before when they were still in Canada, settled beside him. But her focus quickly shifted when she spotted a car racing show. Her eyes lit up, and before her father could change the channel again, she snatched the remote from his hand.
"I want to watch this!" she exclaimed eagerly, her voice full of excitement. Her father chuckled at her enthusiasm.
"You like it, huh?" he teased.
Yvienna nodded, her gaze fixed on the screen.
"Yeah! It's amazing! I want to do it too!" she added her dream of racing and driving fueling her excitement even more. Her father, his face breaking into a grin, raised an eyebrow.
"You really want to learn, huh?" Without saying another word, he stood up and motioned for her to follow him.
"Come on, follow me." Curious and intrigued, Yvienna followed him upstairs, wondering what he had in mind.
Yvienna, still full of energy, shrugged and followed him upstairs. She had no idea where he was leading her, but she was more than willing to go along. As they stopped in front of a door, Yvienna felt a rush of curiosity. When her father opened it, she stepped inside and gasped in awe. The room was filled with trophies and medals, shining with the history of his past accomplishments. Her mouth formed an O of amazement as she took it all in.
"Are these all yours, Dad?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes, I was a drag racer before," he said, his tone filled with pride. Her eyes lit up.
"Does that mean you're a great drag racer? Always the champion?" she asked excitedly. "Yes, baby," he chuckled, clearly amused by her enthusiasm. Yvienna's heart skipped a beat. "Oh my gosh! Can you teach me how to drive, please?" she pleaded, her voice full of eagerness. Her father raised an eyebrow but smiled.
"Okay, I'll teach you on Saturday." Yvienna jumped up, unable to contain her excitement. "Yes! Thank you, Daddy!" she squealed, dancing out of the room, humming a tune in sheer happiness.
Saturday arrived faster than she had imagined. Yvienna couldn't contain her excitement as she hurried through her morning routine. After a quick shower, she dressed in a white off-the-shoulder top, black fitted jeans, and a pair of Timberland boots. She styled her hair, adding her signature Ray-Ban sunglasses to complete her look.
With her energy soaring, she hurried downstairs to find her father already waiting for her.
"Daddy! Let's go!" she called out, her voice full of anticipation. Her father chuckled at her enthusiasm.
"You're so excited, huh?" he teased.
"Of course! Come on, Dad! Faster!" Yvienna urged, barely able to stay still. With a shake of his head and a fond smile, her father led the way outside. Yvienna practically leapt into the car, eagerly buckling her seatbelt.
Her father got in, and after a few minutes of driving, they arrived at a large, empty field. Yvienna stepped out of the car, inhaling deeply. The vast open space stretched before her, and a familiar sense of déjà vu swept over her. This was the place she had seen on the TV show just days ago.
"Shall we start?" her father asked, his voice calm but firm.
Yvienna nodded enthusiastically, ready to get started. They got into the car, and her father began to explain the basics. Yvienna, a fast learner, soaked up the information quickly. She drove cautiously at first, following her father's guidance, but soon the exhilaration of the open road overtook her. After three hours of practice, they finally stopped. Yvienna wiped the sweat from her forehead and looked at her father expectantly.
"Did you get it?" he asked, his voice tinged with both pride and concern.
"Of course, Dad! Can I drive now?" she asked eagerly, her eyes sparkling. He nodded.
"Be careful, drive slowly. Otherwise, your beautiful face might get ruined."
"Don't worry, Dad! I can do this!" she replied confidently, her hands gripping the wheel as she prepared to drive. Taking a deep breath, she slowly eased the car forward. The thrill of it all surged through her. Before long, she couldn't help but push the pedal to the metal, zooming across the field.
"Woohoo!" she shouted, the wind rushing through her hair as she picked up speed.
After a few moments, she slammed on the brakes and skidded to a stop in front of her father, grinning ear to ear. Her father's eyes widened in surprise.
"Are you okay, my daughter? You're amazing! Bravo, Yvienna!" he exclaimed.
"Thanks, Dad! As I said, I can do it! I'm Yvienna! I can do whatever I set my mind to, no matter how difficult it seems!" she said proudly, her voice full of triumph. Her father laughed, though there was a hint of caution in his tone.
"Just remember, be careful." Yvienna nodded enthusiastically.
"Okay, Dad! Don't worry!" Just then, her stomach growled loudly, and her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Her father chuckled softly. "Are you hungry, my darling?"
"Yeah, Dad, can we eat now?" Yvienna asked, smiling sheepishly. He nodded. They climbed back into the car, and her father drove them to a fancy restaurant. After a delicious meal, Yvienna looked at him, suddenly feeling a little unsure.
"Dad, can I get my driver's license so I can drive wherever I want?" she asked, her tone hopeful. Her father smiled at her, but then his phone rang. He answered quickly, and Yvienna's heart sank when she realized he wouldn't be able to accompany her the next day. "I'm sorry, darling. I have a meeting tomorrow, but you can still go get your license. Call Tiffany—she can come with you," he said. Yvienna's mood darkened for a moment, but she quickly pushed her feelings aside. "It's okay, Dad. I know it's for my future, right?"
"Yes, darling. And don't worry, I'll buy you a sports car soon," he added, his tone softening with affection. Yvienna smiled, though a tinge of sadness lingered in her chest. It wasn't the first time she felt disconnected from her parents, but at least they provided for her. She quickly shoved those thoughts aside as the car stopped in front of their house. They said their goodbyes, and as Yvienna entered her room, she flopped onto her bed, letting out a sigh of relief. Reaching for her phone, she called Tiffany, eager to tell her about the day.
"Hello?" Tiffany answered. "Hey, can you come with me tomorrow? I'm going to get my driver's license," Yvienna said. Tiffany's laughter echoed through the phone.
"Are you serious? You can't even drive yet!"
"Bullshit! Wait and see, Tiffany! I'll prove you wrong! I'll pick you up at 8 AM sharp tomorrow. Bye! Love you!" Yvienna ended the call with a grin, already planning the next big step in her journey toward independence.
