Chapter 344
“So, is this what you’ve made?”
“Indeed! Since Silver Wisdom has come to visit me, how could I let that wisdom slip away!!!”
Dwarf Grandmaster glanced at the dwarf before him, who was making quite a fuss.
It was one of the many dwarves who frequented while claiming to have invented something new.
“I can’t say for certain if Silver Wisdom came to see you, but let’s take a look at what you’ve got.”
“Please, feel free to examine it! I’ve already subject it to sufficient testing!”
The Grandmaster looked at the pile of papers presented to him. It was a shabby stack scribbled on cheap, rough paper with coal, which looked extremely crude to the Grandmaster’s eye.
“It seems rather unimpressive… I don’t have the spare time to waste on something like this.”
“It might look a bit rough since it was written in just one night, but the content is not shabby. Once you read it, you’ll understand the value within.”
“One night? That’s quite the exaggeration.”
As he looked at the fussing dwarf, the Grandmaster frowned slightly and began to examine the paper he held in his hands.
“Let’s see… maximizing efficiency through improvement of the magical circuit?”
Upon seeing the title, the Grandmaster tapped the stack of papers and said,
“It seems to be an improvement on the magical circuit. How many invention registrations with such a title do you think I’ve seen during my time as Grandmaster?”
“Well, it must be quite a hot topic among dwarf inventions lately, so I’d say several dozens.”
“More like hundreds! It’s to the point that counting has become bothersome! If you just change the material a bit or alter the shape of some circuits, don’t come to register a new invention! And when I ask you if the efficiency has improved much, the answer is no!!! After dozens of attempts, you bring me only a measly 5% improvement!!!”
The Grandmaster shouted this with considerable anger.
“At least bring me something that shows a 70% improvement out of hundreds of tests! Don’t bring me half-baked improvements!!!”
It seemed like an outburst filled with grievances. Surely there had been many trivial inventions submitted.
Dwarves, who poured their passion into exploring knowledge and inventing new things, found this particularly frustrating.
“In that situation, what do you think my reaction to your invention would be?”
“This is different from others’ trivial inventions.”
“Everybody says that! Everybody! How many of those inventions among them actually got approved? Not even one in a hundred! You’re wasting your breath!”
As he shouted, pouring out his frustrations, the Grandmaster took a moment to catch his breath and continued.
“I don’t think your invention is any different from theirs.”
“My invention is truly different! Silver Wisdom appeared to me in a dream and revealed it to me!”
“Yeah, everyone says something like that. I’ve heard it so much that it’s lodged in my ears.”
“Ah, regardless, please read it! You’ll see that this invention is unlike those frauds!”
“Sigh. Yeah, I should at least check it. That’s one of the Grandmaster’s duties.”
Muttering to himself, the Grandmaster exhaled and fiddled with the pile of papers in his hand.
He was aware that his duties were glorious, but having to waste time on such trivial matters was extremely frustrating.
If only he could hammer some metal and feel refreshed instead.
Thus, he started slowly reading through the papers he held.
“Comparison experiments of the magical conductivity of various metals… Deviations in conductivity based on the shape of the magical circuit. Hm… At a glance, the data looks quite meticulous, but you wrote this in just one day? What about the validation?”
“I could only manage about 20 tests in haste, but out of those, 19 were within the margin of error.”
“19 out of 20?”
“That’s right, 19.”
“95%?”
“Indeed, 95%.”
With that statement, the Grandmaster stroked his beard slowly. If the content written on the papers is true, and if they construct a magical circuit using an alloy of silver and brass mixed with certain materials…
“The magical conductivity of this material would be double that of the known silver…”
“It requires a slightly complicated process, but considering the cost of materials, it becomes cheaper than the existing magical circuits.”
“Hm… Certainly, since silver also serves as currency, using a little less of it is a fortunate thing.”
“And if you look at the ingredients in the concoction, they are common medicinal herbs used outside. They are hard to obtain underground, but they are generally cheaper than silver.”
Certainly, that was the case. There were abundant ingredients for healing potions or fatigue recovery, and even herbs that help with focus.
These were all materials that could be procured easily.
“Furthermore, if the magical circuit’s shape is made spiral and the parts not using magic are coated with pitch, it would minimize unnecessary magical leakage…”
“I knew pitch prevents water seepage, but I never thought it could help reduce magical leakage.”
“This is… quite interesting. If the contents written here are true, it might result in significant achievements.”
At those words, the dwarf who had brought the new invention burst into a huge smile.
“Finally! You’ve acknowledged the wisdom given by Silver Wisdom!”
“Not yet acknowledged. I still need to verify if the data in this stack of papers is accurate.”
“Do as you wish! I am confident! And most importantly!”
The dwarf pulled something out from his waist.
It was a lantern powered by a mana stone, commonly used among dwarves.
“I created a prototype to see its effectiveness directly.”
“What’s that?”
“It’s an item made as a test during the process of verifying the materials in the booklet. It looks like an ordinary mana lantern but…”
The dwarf opened the bottom of the lantern and placed a small mana stone inside.
“Normally, a mana lantern of this size would only emit a faint light. But.”
With familiar skill, the dwarf closed the bottom of the mana lantern and pressed a small button on top.
Boom!
A dazzling light burst forth from the lantern.
“Eh?!”
“As a result of improving efficiency and minimizing the leakage of magical power, it can emit this level of light!”
“Wow…. That little mana stone emits this much light…? Are you sure there’s not another mana stone inside it?”
“Of course not! Here! Take a look for yourself!”
The dwarf handed the mana lantern to the Grandmaster with a dissatisfied look, and the Grandmaster inspected the mana lantern closely.
Since the structure of the mana lantern was familiar to the Grandmaster, it wasn’t difficult to disassemble it for examination.
“Looks like a popular rockwood-style lantern. The finish is a bit rough, but… did you coat the magical circuit with pitch? And the thickness… it feels like there are multiple coils wrapped around the magical circuit… Certainly, it has the same structure as what’s in this document.”
“I couldn’t help but have a rough finish since I rushed. I wrote the document in just one night, tested it, and created a prototype, so it can’t be perfect.”
“Besides, there’s no other mana stone inside… The color of the magical circuit in the light-emitting part is slightly different… Hmm. Is it an alloy made with a special mixture?”
“That’s right. Perhaps due to the brass, there’s a slight yellowish tint mixed in.”
The Grandmaster nodded slightly and pressed the button on the lantern to turn on the light.
Even with just one small mana stone inside, it emitted a significant amount of light.
“Well, I understand. Once the additional technical verification process is complete, we can register the patent, so please write down your personal details.”
The Grandmaster picked up a sheet of paper and a pen from the table beside him and handed it to the dwarf before him.
However.
“This technology isn’t mine, but a gift from Silver Wisdom. I merely transcribed the wisdom bestowed by Silver Wisdom, validated it, and created a prototype.”
“Really?”
“Of course.”
While it was a behavior that was hard to understand logically, underneath that action lay a belief in something.
A belief in Silver Wisdom, which had glorified him.
“If this patent is registered, you could become one of the wealthiest individuals. Are you really giving it up so easily?”
“Grandmaster. Are you going to register the patent with the sacred mountain?”
At those words, the Grandmaster shook his head slightly.
“This patent is a gift from Silver Wisdom to the dwarves through me. How can I profit off such a precious thing by attaching my name to it?”
On those words, the Grandmaster could only nod slightly.
“Anyway, I can live comfortably with my current situation. The reason I’ve stayed up all night and applied for this patent is in honor of Silver Wisdom, who shared this knowledge with me.”
The dwarf looked at the Grandmaster with shining eyes.
“If I gain anything from this patent, it would be proof that Silver Wisdom still watches over us dwarves. That alone is enough for me.”
The look in his eyes was filled with unwavering conviction.
