While Others Tame Beasts, I Level Up

Chapter 11: Chapter 9 - Time Skip, Fast leveling

After I got home, I greeted my maid and got fast to sleep, thinking of the past experiences lately. It sure was exciting to live in a fantasy world.

But I felt like something was missing, something bothering my existence, it was my family. The pain and trauma could not be hidden by a mere absence of events lately.

Especially since the thugs attacked me last time.

The night was silent except for the faint rustle of the wind through the trees outside my window.

The cool breeze did little to calm the fire burning inside me.

"The school semi-annual assessments were approaching fast", I thought. "If I can make a statement there, it will be the first step toward earning the power and respect I need to settle old scores". I kept in mind.

My stepmother's favored son. My so-called half-brother. His face appeared in my mind, a twisted smirk of superiority. He had been instrumental in my father's betrayal, using his influence to discredit me and drive me into the shadows. He is three years older than me, he awakened our family tamer talent, Petrify, and his beast is the A-rank potential Golem Beast.

"If I remember right, he is around Adapted Tamer level", I tought deeply.

"If I want revenge, I need to achieve Master level power at the very least and that just makes sure I could defeat the ones who have wronged me, let alone hope to fight against any ancestor. For that I need to train even harder.."

Two weeks later...

In an unfamiliar forest , a young man could be seen surrounded by 4 Red Horned Bears, smiling with confidence.

"Kas, let's do this" I tought as I activated Madness and my Cross-Leveling title.

[ System alert!

I could feel power surging through my veins..

Unlike before, I felt I could deal with anything that could come in my way, even though that may be an illusion.

"Kas, use Erosion spit!"

At that moment another bear leaped at me, and as I used Quick Dash in combination with my sword, the bear fell down in an instant.

"Kas , use Coiling Dominion!" I asked as I jumped over one of the bears, using my sword and my fist to defeat it.

The last Bear ended up dying by suffocation, which raised my arm's hairs.

"We are much stronger, Kas", I tought.

As the final Red Horned Bear crumpled to the ground, a wave of exhilaration coursed through me. The combination of my abilities and Kas's newfound power was overwhelming, intoxicating even. The forest was now silent, save for the crackle of leaves underfoot and my heavy breathing.

Kas slithered back to me, his scales glinting faintly under the moonlight. His evolution into the Chaos Snake had not only granted him incredible strength but also an unnerving presence. The aura of chaos he emitted made the air around him feel heavy, almost suffocating. But to me, it was a symbol of our shared growth and determination.

"Kas," I muttered, crouching down to pat his smooth head. "We've come a long way. But this is just the beginning." His sharp gaze met mine, a flicker of understanding passing between us.

As I made my way back to the temporary camp I'd set up on the outskirts of the forest, my thoughts drifted back to my plans.

The semi-annual assessments were not just a test of skill or strength; they were a battleground for prestige and recognition. To the instructors, they might be a mere formality, but to me, it was an opportunity to leave an indelible mark on the school, to climb one step closer to my ultimate goal: revenge.

My stepmother, her favored son, and the family that had discarded me like trash. Their faces lingered in my mind, fueling the fire inside me. I could still remember the humiliation, the scorn in their voices, and the pain of betrayal. But I wasn't the same powerless boy anymore.

The forest training was a necessary risk. I'd sought out tougher missions, beasts above my level, and situations that pushed me to my limits. Each battle brought me closer to the strength I needed. But it was far from enough. If my stepbrother, an Adapted Tamer, was to be dealt with, I would need more than just raw strength. I would need strategy, allies, and above all, patience.

I opened my system interface to review my progress once again.

Our stats were improving steadily, but I knew it wasn't enough. My stepbrother's Golem Beast, with its defensive capabilities and overwhelming power, was a formidable adversary. And he wasn't the only one I needed to surpass.

The assessments would pit me against the best in the school, including the elite students who had awakened their family's legacy talents. Among them, Ben Kingster, with his Red Iron Bull, Anais who awakened the Crimson Sparrow, an A- ranked beast and who had trained in the First Martial School.

Back at the camp, I sat by the fire, sharpening my sword as Kas coiled nearby. The embers flickered, casting shadows that danced around us like phantoms.

I pulled out a parchment, a crude map of the forest I'd drawn myself. There were still a few locations I hadn't explored, places where stronger beasts might lurk. If I could hunt them down and survive, the rewards would be worth the risk.

"Tomorrow, we'll push harder," I said aloud, as much to myself as to Kas. "We'll find stronger opponents, complete tougher missions, and prepare for the assessments."

Kas flicked his tongue, a silent affirmation.

As I lay back, staring up at the canopy of stars, I allowed myself a brief moment of reflection.

This world, despite its dangers and betrayals, was exhilarating. Every day was a battle, every victory a step forward. The pain of my past, the betrayal by my family, and the scorn of my stepbrother—it all served as fuel for the fire burning within me.

They would regret underestimating me.

And when the semi-annual assessments came, I would make sure they all saw the power of George Carter and the Chaos Serpent.

The sun rose lazily, casting golden light over the dense forest. I woke up to the sound of rustling leaves and the faint chirping of birds. Kas was already coiled near the dying embers of last night's fire, his serpentine body still but alert. His golden eyes locked onto mine as I stretched, and I felt a spark of connection.

"Morning, Kas," I said, pulling myself up. My muscles were sore from yesterday's battles, but it was the good kind of soreness~the kind that came with progress.

The missions I'd taken from the billboard had hinted at a cluster of aggressive Rockfang Boars in the region. Their levels were in the high teens, but if we could handle them, the rewards and experience would be worth it.

By mid-morning, Kas and I were deep in the forest, navigating through the underbrush. The air was thick with tension, the kind that came when predators were nearby.

My instincts sharpened as I activated Animal-Stance: Unity, heightening my senses.

A low growl echoed through the trees.

I stopped in my tracks, scanning the area. Then, a massive form emerged from the shadows—a Rockfang Boar, its tusks gleaming like polished stone.

Its red eyes glared at us, filled with primal hostility. And behind it, more movement. Three more boars, their heavy footsteps shaking the ground.

"Looks like I found my targets", I tought while smirking.
