Who is the Lady of the Night

Elara stands shaken near the lifeless body of the man while Seraphine is still at he corner moves the creak of the wooden floor as she works on her black heels she parts Elara on her shoulder 

"Don't worry about what this man has said but it has something to do with you so you have to get used to it" she says

She tuns to leave but turns to face Elara 

"You know that if more people find out about you this peaceful life will end especially those from the Order of the Sun..... Let us move this body before morning so as not to turn attention on you"

Elara breathes in deep breaths and calms down 

"You are right Seraphine... I have to get a grip of myself this is normal" 

Seraphine then proceeds to a room and comes out of it with a black cloth and tosses it to Elara 

"Come on where that you know how dark the night get here in the lower districts"

Elara puts on the cloak which covers her face

Elara and Seraphine carry the body with great difficulty out to the alley ways. Elara is carrying the upper side from the waist upwards while Seraphine is carrying the legs 

They reach at an end of an alley so dark it sends chills down your spine 

"Elara let us leave it here at least they will be able to find him here" Seraphine tells her in a chilling whispering voice 

They leave the body in the darkness and Elara and Seraphine leave the alley at a speed of light if they are seen it will be the end of them

At a distance a shadowy figure looks on as Elara reaches back home she did not want to go back to her clinic all she wanted was to go back to sweet bed 

The shadow leaves as Elara closes the door to her house 

Elara lives n one of the at least habitual neighborhood of The Lower Districts of Valemount as the rest of the Lower Districts are in poor conditions

Valemount is divided into several areas two of them being:

The Noble Quarters (High Valemount)

The Lower Districts (Low Valemount)

As the city is divided into two by The Velis River the lower districts is where majority of the citizens of Valemount live here, narrow, winding alleys, crowded markets, and crumbling tenements are a normal here everyone is poor and it is known for its lawlessness and crime.

Here is also the location of The Underbellies (a local name for the slums) is where much of the criminal underworld operates, dominated by gangs and mercenaries, but also supernatural beings hiding in plain sight. The streets are often cloaked in shadow and mist, giving rise to rumors of dark creatures lurking within.

The situation in the Lower Districts is practically the opposite of The Noble Quarters which is on the other side of the Velis River located on hills overlooking the rest of Valemount here is the wealthiest part of the city for it is the home of the rulling families of Valemount for it has grand estates for each rulling family, walled off from the common folk.

But that is not the only reason why it is the wealthiest the Noble Quarters is also the location where the City's rulers hold court in Valemount Keep.

Which is seen as a symbol of authority an imposing fortresses where the commoner will only dream of coming close to it. 

Here the street are wide and paved with stone, and gas-lit street lamps cast a soft glow at night.

A woman sits quietly in a dimly lit room a face covered in darkness reciting one thing 

"Balance brings unity.... Balance is insanity....

Order of the Balance is here saves us .... "

A child comes to her 

"Mommy look" 

She continues reciting the same thing 

"Balance brings unity..... Balance is insanity..... Order of the Balance is here to save us...."

The same woman starts practicing a magic spell then a war breaks out the cries if children and women bodies lying everywhere the woman screams tears in form of blood coming out of her eyes 

"Ahhhhhh!"

Elara wakes up from her sleep dreanching in sweat she turns on her bedside lamp and stand to go and drink water she takes water from a black pale near the window over looking the street below and drinks it she feels more at ease 

"These visions are becoming more frequent these days and clear" Elara says to herself 

"But why is it that I feel like I have been to these places they feel strangely familiar.... anyway I will look into this Order of Balance tomorrow and what is it?"

After that Elara goes back to bed and switches off her lamp and drifts back to sleep

Elara is in her clinic dressed neatly in a white simple dress she is going about her work on her dress when suddenly a knock 

"Dr Elara are you in there please" The voice on the other side spoke 

Due to the tone of the voice Elara stands and hurries to open the door 

"What happened?" Elara asks the woman on the other side 

A woman is standing with a child around 5 years old the woman is dressed in rugged clothing of a worn out faded yellow shirt and black torn pair of trousers while the boys is wearing a blue short and white t-shirt upon seeing the child's condition Elara quickly invites them in and closes the door behind her.

"What happened to him" she asks upon seeing the child has a fresh wound on his arm 

"They were just playing him and his friends and suddenly he just fell down and hurt his arm" The worried mother answers 

The wound on the arm of the boy is around the wrist and blood coming out of it in small sprinkler drops 

Elara proceeds to take a certain liquid bottle with a clear purplish liquid inside it and takes a pice of cotton wool and proceeds to disinfect the affected area then she tells the woman to wait outside as she wants to treat the boy

Her reason for doing this is because of the The sacred order of the sun recent presence in the lower districts can cause her powers and magic to be exposed hence she prefers for the relatives of the patients to wait outside as she does her work 

The worried mother obliges and leaves to wait outside Elara then proceeds to close her eyes and chant some words while playing her ands over the wound.

A white glow flowing like cool waters comes out of her hands and into the wound of the boy and it the skin quickly starts to heal and the blood flow stop. One might even think that it there was no wound since it is good as new.

The child is elated when he sees that his wound has been healed

Elara calls the mother in and tells her that her son is okay and warns the child playfully 

"And you naughty boy you should not play where you can easily injure your self do you know how worried your mother is" 

"Sorry auntie I will not play where I will hurt myself again " the child with a remorseful voice and tone apologizes 

Elara tuns to the mother again and tells her that the treatment costs 50 Rays (ʘ) 

"Please doctor but I don't have that much money please take 20 Rays (ʘ)"

Elara being the kind soul she is accepts the money.

She then tells the woman to be careful 

As the mother and child leave Elara remains seated where she is busy thinking about something .

Later in the day 

Elara is seated at her desk and across the table is Seraphine 

"Master..." Elara speaks. She calls Seraphine that even though she is more like a mentor to her as a form of respect 

"I have realized something since yesterday something has changed like...for example my senses I can see clearly and hear even when a leaf is dropping and today while treating a boy my magic seemed to have been improved can you tell me the reason?"

Seraphine does not answer immediately but continues to tap by the tip of her finger on the wooden desk three times before answering 

"Elara you seem to be accepting and integrating with more of your powers that can only be the only reason for it..... And Elara about yesterday and even today please keep everything to yourself you know that the Sacred order of the sun are hovering around this place those days so be careful if those people and not only The order of the Sun realise who you are then you will be done for am I clear"

Elara nods in return to show that she knows the consequences of her powers and identity being discovered 

"Anyway Elara you are making great progress please what happened should not disturb you okay make sure you have a good rest" Seraphine tells her as she proceeds to the door and leaves leaving only the sound of her heels in the hallway as she is leaving 

Leaving Elara deep in thought seated in her seat barely moving

Somewhere in the lower districts 

Two children a boy and a girl are playing hide and seek the boy starts counting and the girl runs to hide 

" 1.... 2....3.....4....5....Here I come am going to get you" 

And then tries to find the girl 

"Soren am coming for you" 

He walks slowly and then enters a near by alley where garbage is usually collected it is in piles and when he reaches the end 

"Soren are you here am coming for you. I can see you."

He then sees a hand sticking out and proceeds to try to touch it thinking it is Soren's hand 

But it is usually cold stiff but he sees something else that makes him freeze and he runs out of their like a crazy man

After some time 

A group of men with the label of the Sacred order of the sun are talking in groups while a white sheet covers the newly discovered body of a man 

In murmurs in groups men and women alike 

"I swear I saw something walking in alley yesterday can it be her?"

Is it the Lady of the night again?"
