Chapter 19: Wonder of Magic
The black lightning struck the demon, creating a devastating sound and destruction, targeting only the demon and its surroundings.
The black lightning strike was so powerful that the destruction was immense, with dust covering the entire room.
Slowly, the dust began to settle, and everyone stared at the demon, eager to see what had happened to it. Winifred's eyes widened in shock as she saw the demon. The demon was dead, with only ashes remaining on the ground.
Seeing the demon's death and the ashes on the ground, everyone stood frozen in disbelief.
Winifred turned her gaze toward Elise in the sky. "Every time I think I understand how powerful she is, she shows me how wrong I am," Winifred thought, tears suddenly streaming down her cheeks.
Noticing Winifred crying, Elise slowly descended toward her.
"You little golem, I told you to take care of her. So why is she crying?" Elise asked, glaring at the little golem standing near Winifred.
"It's not my fault! I protected her. I didn't let anyone even touch her," the little golem replied hastily, trying to defend himself.
"Please, it's not his fault. He saved me well," Winifred said, wiping her tears with her hand.
"Yes, it's not my fault, my lady. Please tell Miss Elise that it's not my fault," the little golem added, still defending himself.
"Just kidding, little golem. I know. I was watching everything, so don't worry," Elise said with a smirk.
"I was just so shocked seeing that demon that I didn't even cry at first. Now, I realize how scared I really was," Winifred admitted, looking at Elise.
"Don't worry. It's your first time seeing a demon. You did really well," Elise said with a small smile, placing her hand gently on Winifred's head.
"Yes, excuse me!" said Leo, supporting a man with an injured leg while two elf girls stood beside him.
"Oh, hi there. You must be Leo, right?" Elise asked, smiling at him.
"Yes," Leo replied, startled. "How do you know my name?"
"I'll tell you that later. For now, let's get out of here before other monsters come, hearing the noise," Elise said.
"Oh… okay," Leo replied.
The man with the injured leg glanced suspiciously at Elise but couldn't muster the courage to say anything in her presence.
"You little golem," Elise said, turning toward the golem.
"Yes, Miss Elise?" the little golem answered promptly.
"Kill every last goblin around the cave and the forest. Now go," Elise commanded.
"Okay, Miss Elise," the little golem responded.
Fearing Elise's command, the little golem ran toward the cave's exit.
Seeing the golem go alone to kill all the remaining goblins, Leo and the other hostages were shocked but quickly realized how strong the golem was after witnessing his fight with the demon.
"Okay, everyone, let's go," Elise said.
"Let's go, Winifred," Elise added with a smile.
"Okay," Winifred replied.
With the two elf girls, the injured man, and Leo, Elise and Winifred started walking toward the cave's exit.
After a while, they reached the exit and stepped outside.
"Cry…" Both elf girls burst into tears upon seeing the outside. They couldn't believe they had survived.
"These elves were hostages for more than a week. Mr. Fred became a hostage two days ago, and they just captured me today. It must have been so hard for them to survive this long," Leo said somberly.
"You all stay here. You're injured, so I'll cast a healing spell," Elise instructed Leo and the other hostages.
"Winifred, stay with me," Elise said.
All the hostages gathered in one place, waiting for Elise to cast her spell. Elise and Winifred stood in front of them. Elise raised her hand, ready to cast the healing spell.
Suddenly, a green light appeared in Elise's hand. The light spread to Leo and the others, growing brighter and brighter.
Winifred watched in awe as the light touched Leo and the others, healing their injuries. She noticed Leo's hand and wondered, "Can his hand really come back?"
Seeing Winifred staring at his hand with curiosity, Leo smiled.
Noticing his smile, Winifred quickly averted her gaze, pretending she hadn't been staring.
Suddenly, Winifred saw a white light mixed with the green light hitting Leo and the others' heads.
In just a few seconds, both lights vanished, and Elise lowered her hand.
"Come on, follow me," Elise instructed Leo and the others.
Winifred noticed something different about their eyes. "They look… somehow different from before," she thought.
"They're all under my control now," Elise said with a smile, looking at Winifred.
"What…?" Winifred was confused.
"It's magic used to control the minds of living creatures like animals, monsters, and even humans," Elise explained, noticing Winifred's confusion.
"Oh… I see. I understand now," Winifred replied, realizing Elise's intentions.
"So, did you erase their memories?" Winifred asked.
"Yes," Elise said with a smile.
"It's done, Miss Elise," the little golem said, bowing before Elise, his body covered in blood.
Seeing the blood-covered golem beside Elise, Winifred was shocked again. Placing her hand on her chest, she tried to calm herself.
Looking at the golem, Winifred understood what had happened to the remaining goblins.
"Last night, I thought a new day in this magical world would bring wonders, but I never imagined this," Winifred thought as she saw the sun setting behind the eastern mountains.
"Oh, so you're done, huh?" Elise said with a smile.
"Yes, Miss Elise," the little golem replied, bowing his head.
"Okay, you can go now. I'll call you later if I need you," Elise said.
"Understood, Miss Elise," the little golem replied.
Suddenly, the little golem began merging into the soil beneath him.
Watching him vanish, Winifred could only wonder about magic and how she would learn it all.
"Let's go, Winifred. The sun is close to setting; it's time," Elise said, looking at Winifred and offering her hand.
Winifred understood and gently took Elise's hand.
"So… are we going to fly, or will we teleport?" Winifred asked, looking at Elise with curiosity.
"Hmm… you tell me. What should we do? Should we fly or teleport?" Elise asked, placing a finger on her chin and pretending to think.
Winifred realized Elise was asking her to decide. Mimicking Elise's gesture, she touched her chin with one hand and pretended to think.
"Teleport! Because it's late, the sun is setting, and flying takes time we don't have," Winifred replied confidently.
Seeing Winifred imitate her, Elise laughed and touched her chin again, pretending to think deeply.
"Who said we don't have time?" Elise replied, her eyes bright and a playful smile spreading across her face.
