Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Anne's Astonishment
At the Frostwolf Manor, Anne was quietly reading a book.
She enjoyed the tranquility, relishing the simplicity of the moment. However, her identity as a witch destined her for an extraordinary life.
"If only things could always be like this…" she murmured to herself.
Her mind drifted back to that fateful day.
As the Frostwolf Duke had said, there was no place in the Northlands more suited for witches than Frostwolf Ridge. Few lords were willing to shelter witches, yet the Frostwolf Duke openly welcomed them, aligning himself with sorcery and firmly opposing the Church.
If her sisters were willing, Anne felt she could discuss with the Frostwolf Duke the possibility of them settling deep within the Frostwolf Forest.
"It's been half a month. I wonder if the Frostwolf Duke has succeeded in mastering meditation yet." Anne closed her book and gazed out at the setting sun.
As night fell, she summoned her little white mouse again, channeling her spiritual power into it before sending it toward the castle.
---
At the castle, David had just finished his breathing exercises.
He stood in the garden, gazing at the darkening sky. The last time he had met the witch was at this hour, so whenever he was in the castle, he made it a habit to wait in the garden during this time.
Suddenly, his eyes snapped open, turning toward a distant point.
The little white mouse approached, pausing in surprise when it saw him.
Clearly, the young witch hadn't expected the Frostwolf Duke to be waiting for her here. Whether it was a coincidence or intentional, she couldn't say.
"You always show up at this time," David said with a chuckle.
Anne froze, a strange emotion surfacing in her heart. His tone made it clear that he had deliberately waited for her, at the exact time and place.
After a moment, she said, "Last time, I couldn't maintain the summoning spell due to excessive spiritual exhaustion. This time, feel free to ask me any questions you have about meditation."
David smiled confidently. "Meditation? It's no challenge for me. Using the basic meditation technique you provided, I've already condensed my spiritual power, mastered ice elemental energy, and become an ice sorcerer."
"You've already condensed your spiritual power?"
Even with Anne's usually composed demeanor, she couldn't hide her astonishment. Her eyes betrayed disbelief.
David didn't respond verbally. Instead, he activated a trace of his spiritual power, drawing the ice elemental energy from the surrounding environment to form a block of ice in front of him.
Manipulating elemental energy through spiritual power was a hallmark of sorcery. Unlike bloodline knights, who relied on the latent energy within their bloodlines to control elements, sorcerers wielded elemental energy in a much more direct and potent manner.
Still, even among sorcerers, the ability to transform ice elements into solid ice so effortlessly was a rare feat, one not easily achieved even by third-tier sorcerers.
Anne's eyes widened in shock.
Such mastery over ice could only mean one thing: the Frostwolf Duke possessed an exceptional ice elemental talent. Combined with his Frostwolf bloodline, this made his control over ice elemental energy extraordinarily powerful.
David, observing the reaction of the little white mouse, felt satisfied.
Revealing his sorcerer talent was a calculated move to attract the witch organization's attention and elevate his standing within it. If they deemed him worth cultivating, any investment they made in him would undoubtedly benefit him.
"Your talent for ice sorcery is indeed remarkable," Anne finally said, her initial shock giving way to delight.
Now certain that the Frostwolf Duke was a sorcerer, she could relax and treat him as one of her own. With his protection, Frostwolf Ridge could truly become a sanctuary for her sisters, the perfect home in the Northlands for witches.
Furthermore, the witches' power could also aid the Frostwolf Duke in defending his domain.
"Do you have any ice sorcery inheritances within your group?" David asked, getting straight to the point. This was what he urgently needed.
Anne shook her head. "Unfortunately, I know little about ice sorcery, and none of my companions are ice sorcerers."
David felt a twinge of disappointment, but the witch's words reassured him that he had been accepted into the circle of sorcerers.
"However, there are ice sorcerer organizations and ruins in the far north. It's possible to find an inheritance there," Anne added.
David nodded thoughtfully. The Crystal Song Kingdom was located in the far north. Once he helped Reina reclaim the kingdom, he could explore its depths for ice sorcery inheritances.
"And my earlier proposal?" he asked.
Anne understood what he was referring to. Her expression turned serious. "I'll discuss it thoroughly with my companions and give you an answer soon."
David nodded in agreement.
The two then exchanged insights on meditation techniques.
From the witch, David learned that there were potions specifically designed to aid meditation. However, crafting them was even more challenging than making the secret potions he already used.
"So, more money is needed," David muttered after the witch left.
It was no wonder that even the legendary ancient sorcerers had built empires and powerful organizations. Sorcery required more resources than knightly training ever could.
Watching the little white mouse vanish into the distance, David turned back toward the castle.
Fortunately, he still had alternative paths to power. Both effort and perseverance were necessary for his journey as a sorcerer, which was only just beginning.
---
At the manor, Anne confirmed the Frostwolf Duke's sorcerer identity. She immediately summoned a black sparrow, placing a written letter into a vial and having the bird swallow it.
As the black sparrow disappeared into the summoning circle, Anne let out a sigh of relief.
While she leaned toward staying in Frostwolf Ridge and listed the duke'
s promises and the benefits of joining the territory, the final decision rested with her sisters.
