Wizard Lord:I can Extract Anything

Chapter 104: Chapter 104: The Rune of Annihilation Flame

The Annihilation Flame was one of the abilities of Ulysses, the Lord of Ravens. It possesses the power to devour light, generates extreme heat, and can ignite souls. Moreover, this flame is quite "gentle," lacking the expansive nature of ordinary flames.

This flame originated from Ulysses's bloodline talent. Although he had lost his original body, as a world lord, simulating his innate ability was still easy for him.

Richard's interest in witnessing this flame was simple—he wanted to derive a rune from it.

Runes are the cornerstone of the wizarding world, representing the summaries of the rules wizards manipulate. They exist in various phenomena, and wizards decipher these phenomena to understand their essence.

In a somewhat imperfect analogy, runes are akin to the various formulas in physics.

Richard was particularly interested in the properties of the Annihilation Flame. According to Ulysses's description, this flame shared some overlapping characteristics with the Shadow Water Rune. The "gentle" nature of the Annihilation Flame intrigued Richard greatly.

If he could extract the rune of the Annihilation Flame and combine it with the Shadow Water Rune to create a new water-fire annihilation spell, the resulting spell would undoubtedly be more stable and powerful than the original Annihilation Realm.

"How much longer until you can use the Annihilation Flame?" Richard inquired.

"Soon. A few more of his fruits, and I'll be able to use it by the end of the month."

"Still eating his fruits?" Richard sighed, exasperated by the news.

The wizard Ulysses had been pilfering from was named Alexei, a wizard from the Soul School. The gem tree in his yard bore fruit that nourished the soul.

"Who told that guy to shoot a fireball at me?" Ulysses squawked indignantly.

Initially, Ulysses, driven by his raven nature upon seeing a gem tree, tried to snatch some gem leaves, only to be nearly roasted by one of Alexei's fireball spells.

Since then, there had been a vendetta between the two.

"Alright, just don't overdo it," Richard advised with resignation.

For his research, Alexei would have to endure this inconvenience for a while longer.

A month quickly passed.

Richard, with a conciliatory smile, saw off an irate Alexei and turned to the second-floor laboratory.

"Should be about time."

Richard observed Ulysses, who now emitted a faint heat, something that hadn't been present before.

"It's ready, but I can't guarantee you'll find what you're looking for," Ulysses admitted.

Ulysses spat out a wisp of black flame, and as it appeared, the laboratory's temperature slowly began to rise.

Richard pulled out a crystal ball from his pocket.

This was the crystal ball used by the Frostwind Great Wizard to contain the Shadow Water Rune, crafted from quite extraordinary material. Richard had modified it, inscribing several magic arrays inside to withstand considerable heat.

Using magic to guide it, Richard introduced the Annihilation Flame into the crystal ball and sealed it with chains of runes.

Sealing magic, a special art outside the six major schools, serves solely to trap objects or even creatures within items, places, or spaces. Wizards often choose to permanently seal life forms with incredibly resilient vitality.

As long as it doesn't emerge, it might as well be dead.

There are many types of sealing magic, each with its own cost. The sealing method Richard used came from a ciphered note, named Rune Chain Sealing. It only required a significant amount of magic from the wizard, making it one of the least costly sealing methods.

However, its effect was also the weakest, necessitating periodic magical infusions to stabilize the seal.

More potent sealing spells wouldn't require subsequent stabilization, but their costs could include memory, lifespan, or even soul.

With the Annihilation Flame successfully sealed in the crystal ball, the pre-arranged magic array began to take effect.

Under the high temperature of the Annihilation Flame, the crystal ball became scorching hot rather than melting outright.

Richard submerged it in water, using cold water to cool it down, quickly bringing the temperature under control.

"Caw, caw, your wizard sealing methods are intriguing," Ulysses remarked in surprise. "A mere legend can use tricks to control my Annihilation Flame."

"Wizards have many interesting techniques," Richard replied coolly. "A wizard's methods come from wisdom, not bloodline or unsystematic experience."

...

After sealing the Annihilation Flame, Richard began his research and experimentation.

This was a long and arduous process.

Richard had started studying the Evocation School as an apprentice, laying a solid foundation of knowledge for his current research into the Annihilation Flame.

During his research, Ellie also became a wizard, providing significant assistance to Richard.

Through various physical tests and analysis of rune arrays, Richard successfully deciphered the Annihilation Flame in his twentieth year of study, formulating the Annihilation Flame Rune.

This was undoubtedly great news for Richard.

"Have you created the rune?" Ulysses perched on Richard's shoulder, eyes fixed on the rune on the workbench.

The rune resembled a twisted flame, its complex structure dizzying to behold.

The Gods' civilization also had similar rune-like entities. The Rune of the Thousand-Faced God-King could achieve the same functions as wizard runes. However, understanding the Rune required the observer to possess the power of a deity, or a world lord.

Yet the little fellow beneath him, whose power was merely legendary, could create something similar. It was truly unbelievable.

Richard infused the rune on the workbench with magic, and in an instant, a wisp of black flame emerged from the rune.

"See? Isn't it your Annihilation Flame?" Richard said proudly.

Ulysses drew the flame to him and swallowed it whole.

His eyes widened, mouth agape, as if witnessing something incredible.

"Caw! It really is the Annihilation Flame!"

Richard nodded in satisfaction, then erased the rune.

The Annihilation Flame Rune was merely the first step in Richard's plan. Next, he needed to integrate the Shadow Water Rune with the Annihilation Flame Rune using rune arrays, ultimately creating a spell unique to him.

Richard glanced at the clock in the laboratory.

"Already two o'clock in the afternoon? Time flies."

Since becoming a wizard, food had ceased to be a necessity for Richard, so he often lost track of time, spending days and nights engrossed in his laboratory.

Leaving the lab, Richard extended his mental strength and located his two demi-human servants—they were sunbathing in the yard.

Richard led a simple life, often absorbed in the lab, so aside from housekeeping, his servants had little to do, enjoying a leisurely existence.

With a thought, Beast-Eared Girl Number One received the message.

"The master is out; I need to cook," Number One informed Number Two before heading to the first-floor kitchen to prepare a meal.

The slave traders' training was thorough, and Number One was a skilled cook, quickly filling the table with dishes in just half an hour.

Richard glanced at her. When he bought this beast-eared girl, she was about sixteen, with youthful, glossy fur. Now, Number One's fur had dulled somewhat.

Richard patted Number One's ear, signaling her to continue sunbathing.

"Since becoming a wizard, my perception of time has dulled. Twenty years feels like it passed in no time," Richard mused.

Perched on his shoulder, Ulysses squawked:

"Caw! This is just the beginning. Twenty years is nothing. Once you become a god, two hundred years will pass in the blink of an eye.

It's the inevitable path for short-lived species evolving into long-lived ones."

Richard said nothing more, quietly finishing the meal on the table.

Number One's cooking was excellent, the dishes rich in color, aroma, and flavor. After eating, Richard considered increasing Number One's budget to buy more expensive ingredients for cooking.

Such culinary skills deserved better materials.

After dining, Richard stepped out of the wizard tower. The sun was shining brightly, the sky shimmering with light.

"Richard, you finally decided to come out."

A streak of light landed before Richard, transforming into a stunning beauty surrounded by sparks.

"Ellie, long time no see," Richard greeted lazily.

Due to Master Susanna's influence, Ellie had fused her blood with a fire elemental creature upon becoming a wizard, leading to partial elementalization of her body. Now, every move she made released sparks.

"Have you finished your rune research?" Ellie asked curiously.

"Yes," Richard nodded.

"Do you still need my help?"

Richard scratched his head, pondering his research direction.

"I could use some help with knowledge. I need some magic books on water and fire element spells, low-circle ones, first or second circle."

According to Richard's plan, he wanted to construct a new spell from two rare runes, which naturally required substantial knowledge of rune arrays. Reviewing other spells could help him draw parallels.

"That's easy, but what will you trade for them?" Ellie leaned closer, smiling enticingly.

Ellie had long heard of Richard's collection of ciphered notes. As an apprentice, Richard had deciphered an alchemical formula from a ciphered note, and now, seeing his massive collection of them, it was easy for someone as familiar with him as Ellie to make connections.

Richard pulled a scroll from his magic pouch and tossed it to Ellie.

"How about this? A Fire Element Amplification Rune Array."

Taking a look, Ellie immediately agreed to the trade.

"That's enough. I'll bring the things over in a moment."

Half an hour later, Richard received dozens of scrolls documenting spell models.

"Sigh, knowledge is boundless, learning never ends. Back to research."
