Writing a Diary in the Shinobi World, and the Kunoichi Are Shocked

Chapter 12: 012 There Are Differences Even Among Jonin

At this tense and critical moment, Night Star suddenly spoke calmly.

"That's enough for today. You all should continue your patrols."

The members of the police force froze for a moment, their faces showing reluctance.

"But... the Sarutobi clan's arrogance is so unbearable..."

"Hmm?"

Night Star turned to the leader of the police force, speaking slowly.

"Did you not hear what I said?"

Although his tone was calm, the instant the Uchiha ninja heard these words, cold sweat broke out on his back.

Everyone in the clan knew that while Night Star appeared to be kind and approachable on the surface, he had killed hundreds of enemies during the Third Shinobi World War and was a strong figure with blood-soaked hands. How could such a person possibly be soft-hearted?

"I... I understand, Lord Night Star."

The Uchiha ninja responded, then turned around and waved his hand.

"You all heard him. Continue the patrols."

"Yes."

Seeing the police force members turning to leave, Asuma, who had just gained the backing of the Sarutobi clan, was unwilling to let the matter drop so easily. He immediately spoke in a deep voice.

"Leaving just like that? It seems the Uchiha clan is becoming more and more cowardly."

Hearing Asuma's taunt, Night Star replied calmly.

"With just your Sarutobi clan, you're still far from making the Uchiha clan feel fear."

Ever since Sarutobi Hiruzen became the Hokage, the Sarutobi clan had always held themselves in high regard. Now, hearing such words from a Uchiha ninja, how could they tolerate it?

Moreover, in their eyes, the Uchiha clan was the culprit behind the death of Biwako Sarutobi.

New and old grudges piled up together, igniting their fury.

"You wicked brat, what nonsense are you spouting!?"

"Do you really think the Uchiha are so great!?"

"Your sinful clan should be completely eradicated!"

Surrounded by Sarutobi clan ninjas, Night Star maintained his indifferent expression, forming a single-hand seal with his right hand and speaking softly.

"You still don't understand the gap in strength between us and the Uchiha clan."

As his words fell, all the Sarutobi ninjas, including Asuma, suddenly saw their surroundings plunge into darkness.

There was no sound, no light.

Only endless darkness, as if it wanted to devour their very souls.

"This is... the Darkness Jutsu?"

Asuma, having a Hokage father, was quite knowledgeable and immediately recognized the technique, his face showing disbelief.

The genjutsu, Darkness Jutsu, was classified as an A-rank difficulty technique!

If he wasn't mistaken, Night Star had performed the jutsu with just one hand seal!?

Even his father, widely regarded as the strongest Hokage in history, Sarutobi Hiruzen, couldn't achieve such a feat.

Could it be...

Night Star is proficiency in genjutsu surpassed even his father's?

Asuma took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. Closing his eyes, he formed a seal with his hands and shouted lowly.

"Release!"

As a jonin, he naturally knew how to break free from genjutsu.

By disrupting one's chakra flow through specific seals, one could escape the illusions.

However, when Asuma opened his eyes again, all he saw was still darkness.

He panicked instantly.

How was this possible? Why couldn't he dispel this genjutsu?

Immersed in the darkness, stripped of hearing, sight, and any form of perception, all while having to guard against potential sudden attacks from Night Star, Asuma lost his sense of time.

This was an extreme form of torment.

After an unknown amount of time, the darkness around Asuma finally dissipated.

His mental fortitude had reached its limit. Unable to support his body, his legs gave out, and he could only prop himself up with his hands on the ground to avoid collapsing completely.

Among the surrounding Sarutobi ninjas, many had already lost consciousness.

"Now do you understand?"

Night Star crouched down, patted Asuma on the shoulder, and smiled.

"Did you really think that just because you've been promoted to jonin, you and I are on the same level?"

"Even among jonin, there are disparities."

Asuma struggled to reply, but his trembling lips couldn't form a single word.

Though his body remained unharmed, staying in pure darkness for so long had pushed him to his limits. The fact that he hadn't broken down completely was already a testament to his resilience.

So, there was such an insurmountable gap in strength between him and Night Star, despite both being jonin?

With just one genjutsu, Night Star had rendered him and all the Sarutobi clan ninjas around him incapable of fighting.

"Um... Night Star..."

Kurenai Yuhi had just opened her mouth to speak when Night Star waved his hand, interrupting her.

"Nice to see you. I'm heading back to the clan grounds now. You should head home and rest as well. Goodbye."

With that, he turned and walked away.

Kurenai stood in place, a bit at a loss. Looking at the collapsed Asuma, her beautiful eyes revealed clear disappointment.

It wasn't losing to Night Star that was disgraceful.

After all, the gap in strength was evident.

What truly made Kurenai feel disdain toward Asuma was his unjust prejudice against the Uchiha clan.

From her diary, she had learned that on the night of the Nine-Tails incident, the Uchiha had planned to provide support, but were stopped by the village's elders, especially Danzo Shimura.

Had the Uchiha clan successfully intervened that night, would so many civilians and ninjas have perished?

Those hundreds or thousands of lives were clearly the fault of that elder, Danzo Shimura.
