Chapter 16: Inevitable Closeness
It was a quiet morning that started with a lot of disoriented thoughts. Min-jae woke up with her warm body next to his. He couldn't believe he had spent the night in her bed, and she in his. Everything felt a bit confusing. Hours passed, and he still couldn't understand what exactly was happening.
He glanced at Claire, still asleep, her lips slightly curled in a smile, and it suddenly seemed like the most beautiful thing in the world. Then it hit him – he couldn't go to work today. No way. How could he leave such a woman alone while he went off to do his "important" tasks?
"You know…", he began, "In Korea, if you kiss someone even once, you're already in a relationship. So what does this mean for us now?"
Claire opened her eyes, smiling, and despite everything, she was still the carefree and provocative woman he had met. But now, he wasn't sure how to keep her for himself.
"Hm… well, if you want us to be together, maybe it would be nice if we started dating," she said with a grin. "But don't think I'm going to give you this every night like last night."
Min-jae raised an eyebrow and nodded. "Oh, really? Well, I think that's all I need every night. No evening is complete without it," he responded, trying to be humorous, though it was clear that he wasn't joking. It was obvious that as soon as he looked down at her legs, everything was once again completely lost on him – a real danger to his thoughts.
They both got up, and Claire walked around him in nothing but her underwear. Min-jae couldn't stop looking at her, but he tried hard not to show how flustered he was. He couldn't get used to how easily she did this, walking around with such confidence, as if it was natural for her to be so provocative and dangerous for his thoughts.
"I really need to stop looking at you," Min-jae thought, but he couldn't pull his gaze away. "She's literally walking temptation. A giant challenge every time she's near. This is definitely not normal, but how do you resist something so perfect?"
Claire calmly settled into a chair while Min-jae went to the kitchen to make breakfast. Serving her was like a mission. He didn't want her to think he was just another typical Korean guy, but how could he resist when she was doing all this so effortlessly?
As he made eggs, Claire continued walking around him, not really paying attention to his nervous expression. He heard her laugh, saw her glance from him to the table, and realized – she was probably fully aware of what she was doing.
"You think this is easy for me," he said, trying to focus, "But I'm sure I've never been in such a difficult situation. Because in this apartment, there's everything you need... and everything you can do... well... to keep me from losing control."
She smiled and replied, "And you definitely like these situations, don't you?"
"Of course I do," he said, laughing. "But I really wish I knew how to stay normal when you're around."
When breakfast was ready, they sat down together at the table. Min-jae tried to relax, but there she was – in her underwear, practically in his personal space, while he tried to figure out what to say next. All he could do was watch her, full of uncertainty but completely captivated.
This was the reality he was in now. He wasn't sure if he was happy about it or if it was just pure misfortune that was starting to feel dangerous for his mental state.
"I should go to work," Min-jae said, trying to avoid looking into her eyes, though he didn't even know if that's what he really wanted.
Again, she just smiled. "No, don't go... Stay."
This was the real enchanted connection that had no rules. Only inevitable closeness.
