Chapter 157: The Seed Selection

The Great Yan Empire, Imperial City.

As the most prestigious city of the Great Yan Empire, the upcoming seed selection would naturally be held here. After two days of travel, Langtian, Lin Dong, and the Lin Clan entourage arrived safely. They rested for three days, and on the third day, their calm days were interrupted—the seed selection was about to begin.

Over these three days, powerful sects and factions from across the empire had arrived, adding even more excitement to the atmosphere in the capital. Everywhere, people eagerly discussed which clans or sects would win a spot, though many were already sure of one candidate: Langtian. Ever since the Lin Clan competition, Langtian's overwhelming strength had swept across the entire empire like a tornado, establishing him as the top contender for a seed position.

Even among the competitors, there was a quiet prayer to avoid meeting Langtian in battle, knowing that any confrontation with him would likely end in utter defeat.

For this journey, Lin Fan kept his party small, bringing only Langtian, Lin Dong, and a few of the clan's strongest members as they headed to the palace. The selection itself would take place in the heart of the palace under strict security; only major factions were allowed entry.

When Langtian and his party reached the palace's depths, they saw that many groups had already gathered. Unfazed, Lin Fan led them to their designated seats. Only then did Langtian have a chance to survey the grounds. Before them lay a massive, magnificent hall, surrounded by dozens of tunnels leading deep within.

"For the seed selection," Lin Fan explained, "each contestant will draw a number. This won't assign them an opponent but rather a tunnel number. These paths wind through the hall, intersecting and overlapping in complex ways. In the end, only five tunnels will lead to the final hall. Those five who make it through the fierce battles within these paths will claim the coveted places in the Hundred Empire War."

Turning to Lin Dong, Lin Fan added, "I have no worries about Langtian. Whatever path he takes, I'm sure he'll make it through. But Lin Dong, watch out for disciples from the other three great clans and other powerful sects. If our Lin Clan wins two of the spots, it'll be a tremendous honor."

Hearing this, Lin Dong nodded gravely. Unlike Langtian, who had an overwhelming advantage, the seed selection posed a serious challenge for him.

"Don't worry, Brother Lin Dong," Langtian said, patting Lin Dong's shoulder. "With your abilities, as long as you do your best, you have a real shot."

"Thanks, Brother Langtian," Lin Dong replied with a smile, grateful for the encouragement.

As Langtian, Lin Dong, and the others conversed, many in the hall had their eyes on them, particularly on Langtian. His strength was well known, with his half-step Nirvana power reaching the level of many elder experts. None of the young talents present wished to be in the same lane as Langtian, as it would almost certainly mean losing any hope of entering the Hundred Empire War.

In one corner of the hall, a young man dressed in black observed Langtian with a mix of hatred, jealousy, and fear in his eyes. This was Huangpu Ying, the top talent of the Huangpu Clan. Ever since noticing Ling Qingzhu's interest in Langtian, Huangpu Ying had held a grudge against him. Originally, this hadn't been a big issue, as the Huangpu Clan rivaled the Lin Clan in strength. But no one could have predicted Langtian's terrifying rise, pulling so far ahead of Huangpu Ying in just a few short years that he was now the Great Yan Empire's foremost genius. Faced with Langtian's current power, Huangpu Ying's resentment was increasingly tinged with fear that Langtian might come looking for payback.

"The Wang Clan is here!" a voice exclaimed.

Langtian paid little attention to the looks from those around him, but the call drew his attention. Golden light filled the air as several figures descended into the arena. When the light faded, three figures stood revealed.

At the front was a rugged, bare-armed middle-aged man, whose intense and wild gaze swept over the crowd. This was Wang Lei, the Wang Clan's leader and a Nirvana-level powerhouse. Behind him were two others: Wang Yan and a blue-robed young man with a striking resemblance to Wang Yan, Wang Zhong, the Wang Clan's top talent.

Wang Zhong's sharp, blade-like gaze scanned the crowd, finally resting on Langtian. For the first time, a rare hint of caution appeared in Wang Zhong's eyes as he sensed Langtian's unshakeable strength, as solid and unmovable as a mountain. Langtian's reputation was clearly well deserved.

Not long after the Wang Clan's arrival, other powerful factions also began appearing. Finally, when the Great Yan Empire's top forces had gathered, a clear chime rang out across the sky.

As the bell's echo faded, fully armed imperial guards surged in, surrounding the grounds. Seeing this, everyone quieted down, their eyes fixed on the entrance, knowing that the empire's rulers were about to make their entrance.

"Haha, it's been twenty years, yet everyone's as impressive as ever," came a booming voice as Mo Jingtian, the emperor known as the Empire's Tiger, arrived with a hearty laugh.

Beside him stood a young man in green, none other than the third prince, Mo Ling, who had previously crossed paths with Langtian. Mo Ling's gaze fell on Langtian, a complex expression in his eyes. Who could have guessed that in just a few years, Langtian had surpassed him to become the empire's true number one talent? Though he had doubted Langtian's power before, seeing him now left no doubt—Langtian truly had reached the half-step Nirvana level!
