Chapter 3 - The Eldest Grandson
“No!” Su Shu shook her head firmly, her expression resolute.
Gu Beiting furrowed his handsome brows, his eyes narrowing slightly in confusion. “You don’t want it?”
She nodded, her voice steady. “I don’t want this child!”
Though she was unaware of Gu Beiting’s family background, his impeccable attire and demeanor suggested he hailed from a wealthy lineage. Entering the world of affluence was no small feat, and she had witnessed the cruel realities of life that accompanied such status. All she desired was to lead a simple, undisturbed life.
After a moment of contemplation, she fixed her gaze on Gu Beiting. “Mr. Gu, let’s just forget that night! I don’t want to disrupt your life. Could you perhaps lend me three thousand yuan? I don’t have the funds to go to the hospital.”
Su Shu thought to herself that since the child was also his, asking for three thousand seemed only fair.
“Have you thought this through?” Gu Beiting asked again, his tone more serious.
Su Shu nodded, her expression grave.
He pulled out his phone. “Open the payment code.”
Following his instructions, Su Shu accessed her payment code.
With a soft chime, a message arrived.
Upon opening it, she found a transfer of ten thousand yuan!
“Mr. Gu, thank you!” Su Shu bowed deeply, ready to leave.
But instinctively, Gu Beiting grasped her wrist. “Can you reconsider?”
Her delicate brows knitted together slightly in thought.
She didn’t wish to terminate the pregnancy, but as a student yet to graduate, how could she manage raising a child?
After a prolonged silence, she finally said, “This is my carefully considered decision! Goodbye!”
As Gu Beiting released her wrist, the warmth of her skin lingered on his fingers, sending a peculiar shiver through him.
He rubbed his fingers together, watching her retreating figure with a gnawing sense of unease.
After finishing his meal, Gu Beiting exited the restaurant.
As he stepped outside, he caught sight of Su Shu boarding a bus.
Without a second thought, he jumped into his car, started the engine, and followed her.
The bus moved slowly, and Gu Beiting had to navigate through traffic carefully, ultimately tracking her down when she disembarked.
She entered the North City No. 1 Hospital.
Just as Gu Beiting parked his car, he noticed her emerging from the hospital, looking disheveled.
He pressed the horn a few times until she noticed him and leaned out the window.
“Mr. Gu, what are you doing here?” she asked, surprise evident on her face.
Gu Beiting didn’t respond directly; instead, he countered with a question, “Why are you out so soon?”
“There were no more numbers,” Su Shu replied, her small face scrunched up in frustration. “This hospital is busier than I expected!”
Gu Beiting was taken aback, a smile creeping onto his lips. “Get in! I’ll take you to a less crowded hospital!”
Su Shu complied obediently and climbed into the car.
Once inside, she avoided looking at him, for the sight of his face triggered a flood of memories from that fateful night.
The car drove toward the outskirts, heading to the largest private hospital in the area.
As the hospital sign came into view, Su Shu hurriedly exclaimed, “This place is really expensive!”
Gu Beiting shot her a sideways glance. “I’ll cover the costs.”
Her voice lowered but remained clear, “Even if you do, that doesn’t mean you should be taken advantage of! I don’t have insurance for reimbursement.”
Seeing the earnest expression on her face made Gu Beiting’s heart twist unexpectedly.
This girl was perhaps being a bit too sensible for her own good.
Just the thought of the child being terminated sent an uncomfortable pang through him.
“What if I promised to support you and the child, covering all expenses? Would you be willing to carry the baby?” Gu Beiting asked suddenly, his tone solemn.
Su Shu was taken aback. “Why would you support the child? We’re not a couple, and it’s not a result of love! Having a child will only complicate your chances of marrying someone. As for me, being a single mother will make my future difficult.”
Her rebuttal was powerful, and Gu Beiting felt his logical reasoning slip away.
“Let’s go! I’ll take you inside. Don’t worry about the money; I’ll handle everything, including your recovery afterward,” he insisted.
“Thank you,” Su Shu replied softly, following him out of the car.
Upon arriving at the gynecology clinic, a tall man rushed in.
“Brother!” the man called out as he reached Gu Beiting, a hint of confusion crossing his face. “What brings you to the gynecology clinic? Visiting a friend?”
“This is Gu Shijun, my third younger brother,” Gu Beiting introduced, gesturing toward the man.
Su Shu bowed her head respectfully. “Hello, Doctor Gu!”
Gu Shijun’s expression shifted as realization dawned upon him. “Oh! So, my brother is here to bring someone for treatment! Who is she?”
“Doctor Gu, I’m Su Shu,” she introduced herself.
“Su Shu?” Gu Shijun’s eyes widened in surprise. “Wait, what? Su Shu?”
A month prior, their elder brother had been sabotaged, consuming something he shouldn’t have.
Before he could arrive to take his brother for a gastric lavage, he had overheard people saying that Gu Beiting had left with the fake daughter of the Shen family.
Gu Beiting shot a glance at Gu Shijun, who quickly masked his astonishment and asked warmly, “Su Shu, what seems to be the problem?”
“I need an abortion,” Su Shu murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
“What? You’re pregnant with the heir of the Gu family?”
