A Hurried Marriage With A Child On The Way Leads To A Young Girl Instantly Becoming Mr.Gu’s Beloved

Chapter 5 - Keeping the Child

“You’re still a student, aren’t you?” Gu Shijun broke the silence.

Su Shu nodded. “I’ll be starting my senior year this fall.”

Gu Shijun asked again, “And… you’ve had biology classes, right?”

Su Shu nodded, still unsure where this was going.

“Then you must know the damage an abortion can cause to a woman’s body, right? There are many potential consequences—infertility, severe bleeding, even the possibility of needing a hysterectomy.”

Su Shu shuddered, her face draining of color.

“Is… is it really that serious? But I’ve seen an advertisement that claims it’s a painless procedure,” she stammered, her voice trembling with fear.

Gu Shijun sighed lightly. “It’s all about probabilities. No one can guarantee you’ll be fine. You understand that, don’t you?”

His words, spoken so calmly and matter-of-factly, weighed heavily on Su Shu. They made it sound as if these worst-case scenarios were certain to happen.

Instinctively, she shrank back, putting more distance between herself and Gu Shijun.

“Dr. Gu, do all doctors try to scare their patients like this before surgery?” Su Shu asked, still trying to wrap her mind around it all.

Though she didn’t know much about the medical world, this wasn’t how things were portrayed on TV.

“No, I’m not trying to scare you. This is pre-surgery communication. We have to be honest about the risks upfront so there won’t be any disputes later, right?”

Su Shu thought about it and had to admit, what he said made some sense.

Seeing her fear, Gu Shijun softened his tone. “You do know you have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), right? It’s quite hard for women with PCOS to get pregnant. The fact that you’ve conceived this child is nothing short of a miracle. If you terminate the pregnancy, it’s unlikely you’ll have another chance.”

Su Shu’s mind went blank. I have PCOS? If I abort this child, I might never have another?

It was as if her brain exploded. Everything Gu Shijun said echoed in her mind, growing louder and more unbearable.

Seeing the young woman teetering on the edge of panic, Gu Shijun suppressed a smile. “I’ll leave you to rest now,” he said gently before stepping out of the room.

When Gu Beiting returned with dinner, he found Su Shu sitting in stunned silence, her face pale as if she’d lost her soul.

He set the food down and asked softly, “Are you feeling unwell?”

Su Shu slowly turned to face him, her eyes searching his for answers. “Mr. Gu, is it true that an abortion can cause infertility, heavy bleeding, or even lead to a hysterectomy?”

Her words sent a jolt of fear through Gu Beiting’s heart.

He wasn’t a doctor, but he had heard of such cases before.

“Those complications usually occur in abnormal pregnancies,” he replied in a calming tone. “From what the tests show, yours is a normal pregnancy.”

His reassuring words seemed to settle the storm inside Su Shu, and she let out a sigh of relief.

“Oh, I thought so too. Otherwise, no one would ever go through with it.”

Gu Beiting opened the takeout containers. “Here, have some porridge and side dishes.”

But just as Su Shu was about to eat, she looked up again and asked, “Mr. Gu, have you ever heard of polycystic ovary syndrome?”

Gu Beiting shook his head.

With a soft voice, Su Shu whispered, “Apparently, I have it.”

Gu Beiting paused for a moment. “Eat something first. I’ll go ask a doctor about it.”

Though she had little appetite, Su Shu picked at the food, not wanting to waste the effort Gu Beiting had made.

While she ate, Gu Beiting went to find out more. Gu Shijun was nowhere to be seen, so he sought out the head doctor and asked all the questions Su Shu had raised.

As it turned out, complications like heavy bleeding and infertility were indeed rare, specific to certain abnormal cases.

Then Gu Beiting asked, “What about polycystic ovary syndrome? What are the potential consequences?”

“With PCOS, it’s very difficult to conceive. That’s why, if a woman with this condition becomes pregnant, we strongly advise against terminating the pregnancy,” the doctor explained.

Gu Beiting stood there for a moment, stunned.

When he returned to the room, Su Shu had finished eating and was tidying up the table.

He quickly stepped forward and took over the task.

After clearing the table, he turned to her, his gaze intense and serious. “You have polycystic ovary syndrome. You can’t get rid of this baby.”

Su Shu’s lashes fluttered as tears began to spill down her cheeks.

She tried her best to keep her emotions in check, her sobs soft and quiet, but her shoulders trembled with the weight of her decision.

Once her tears subsided, Gu Beiting spoke again, his voice firm. “I want this child.”

His words weren’t a plea or a suggestion—they were a statement, solid and unwavering.

Su Shu stared at him, her heart heavy with conflicting emotions.

“Mr. Gu, are you only saying this because you’re worried I might never be able to have children again?”

Her eyes were filled with gratitude and something deeper as she met his gaze.

“Not entirely,” Gu Beiting replied, pressing his lips together. “I’m also looking forward to the child being born.”

Not entirely—meaning, in part, yes.

Su Shu’s throat tightened, and she whispered, “Thank you, Mr. Gu.”

“I will take good care of you,” he promised, his words as steady as a rock, grounding her and bringing calm to her heart.

In that moment, Su Shu’s wavering resolve found its footing again.

Gu Beiting’s voice took on a commanding tone. “Tomorrow, go get your household registration book. We’re getting married.”
