A LIVING NIGHTMARE

Chapter 3: WHAT IS GOING ON?

"I…I don't …I don't know him," I lied.

"Don't lie Frances. If you lie we all go down," she warned and I frowned.

"What do you mean we all go down?"

"How did he know our secret spot and the games we play? This means he should know we are involved in Halloween!" She stressed her words and I could tell she was afraid and tense.

"None of that will happen."

"Can you hear yourself right now? You were there for goodness sake so why are you pretending?" She held my shoulders and shook me desperately.

"What is wrong with you, Rene? None of that happened. I was right here in my room," I let her know.

"Don't be ridiculous, Frances! You were right there when it happened," she nearly raised her voice at me.

"When what happened?" I got even more confused.

"When he bit Faith at her neck and sucked her blood! Frances come on!" She shook me again and my eyes widened at her words.

Bit?

Suck?

How?

"I don't understa…"

The next thing I felt was an intense slap right across my face.

I hadn't even recovered when she made me face her again.

"Stop messing with me, Frances. You won't be spared if something terrifying happens," she warned and pushed me away before hurrying out of the house.

I stood there looking dumbfounded as I touched the left side of my cheek.

And it was at that moment my mother entered the living room with a serious look on her face.

"What's going on, Frances?"

"No-nothing," I quickly said while stuttering slightly.

"She slapped you."

At my mother's words, I ignored her and was about to head outside when she stopped me.

"I hope it isn't something grave?" She asked while squinting her eyes at me.

"It's not," I lied and hurried outside, hoping to catch up with Rene.

What really happened last night?

Did we really meet?

What's going on?

It couldn't be real right?

Luckily, I spotted her and ran after her while calling her name but she refused to stop.

"RENE!"

When she turned and found me getting close to her, she decided to run as well and it frustrated me.

"RENE STOP!"

"STOP FOLLOWING ME, FRANCES!"

"WHAT IS GOING ON!" I breathlessly yelled after her.

Soon, I caught up to her and we both collided with each other and fell to the ground.

"What are you doing?" She yelled in irritation.

"I'm trying to understand why you're so mad at me!" I yelled back as I struggled to pin her down.

"I'm mad because you're lying! That maniac clearly knows who you are but you keep denying it! Faith is in danger!"

"How sharp were his teeth to be able to bite her?" I asked and she glared at me.

"Now I think you're making fun of this and I don't appreciate it," she seriously said.

"Screw you, Rene!" I yelled at her since she wasn't paying attention.

When I let her go, she got up while glaring at me.

"Let's all meet at the town hall after the meeting," she said and walked away.

In silence, I stood up and watched her leave.

A car slowly pulled up beside me and when I looked to see who it was, I sighed because it was my mother.

"Get in," she ordered and I did as she said.

When I was properly seated and she drove off, I waited for her to question me but she said nothing. And when we got to Rene who was walking at a very fast pace, she called after her.

"Rene."

As Rene turned to see who it was, her expression quickly changed.

"Mrs Franklin."

"Get in," she ordered and with reluctance, Rene got in and sat in the back seat.

As my mother continued driving, I waited for her to lecture us but she said nothing until we got to the town hall.

"Misunderstanding is like cancer, if you don't treat it while it's still small, it'll grow into something deadly," she warned before stepping out of the car first.

The next person to step out was Rene before me. When our eyes locked, she simply shook her head before following my mother inside.

Everyone in our neighborhood were all present and the hall was crowded but thankfully it could contain us.

When I got in, I was immediately dragged away by someone and when I looked to see who it was I noticed it was my boyfriend, Luke.

"Luke," I gasped.

"Come with me," he said while looking around as if in suspicion and fright.

Confused, I followed him and he took me to where his friends were so we could all sit together.

"What the hell, Frances!" Job snapped at me and I frowned at him.

"Stop it, Job," Luke warned and he rolled his eyes.

Facing me once again, he asked a question I never expected him to ask.

"Did you have some sort of history with the guy named Logan?"

I blinked in shock and that was when the mayor of our town got on the pulpit.

"Let's all settle down please," he said, using the microphone.

And as everyone was settling down, my eyes subconsciously looked in a particular direction and I found a very familiar face looking directly at me.

My lips parted in disbelief when he smiled at me, adding to my current plight.

It was Logan!
