A Sunless Dream | Shadow Slave Fic

Chapter 63: Reconciliation

Silence hung over the room as everyone waited for Orion's next words. Subtle bloodlust emanated from his body as he continued to stand silently, almost contemplative of the words he was about to say. A slight squeeze on his arm from Revel was all it took to get him started.

"Mordret has killed Ki Song, and he has begun terraforming the entirety of the dream realm how he sees fit. If he is not killed immediately, then none of us will have anywhere left to go through that is unless you all want to be his puppets. But who cares about any of that?"

Taking a breathe, Orion's eyes blazed as his voice raised slightly "If you want a reason to fight, I'll give you one! Mordret intends to kill you and everyone you've ever fucking cared about, if that's what it takes to move selfish hearts like ours Sunless, then so be it!"

"I don't care about the pitiful self righteousness that scum like Changing Star attempt to preach, nor do I particularly care about breaking cycles. This bastard has wrong us and he's going to wrong you! He must die today."

Orions words hung in the air as Changing Star shot him a glare at the remark, Sunny sighed lightly, shaking his head before slowly raising himself from the chair. As he sat up, he placed a hand on his chin and closed his eyes in thought.

Silence rang out in the room for a few moments; however, Morgan couldn't tolerate it any further and moved to grab Sunny. "If you're planning something, it's better off letting us know before you do something rash!" Morgan exclaimed; her hand was swatted away roughly by Sunny who remained in an identical position to where he was previously.

"Shut the fuck up Morgan, it's getting to the good part." He muttered, before his body relaxed and he turned his attention to Nephis. "There's no point in recruiting Clan Night, they're all dead. Mordret has them situated around a gigantic castle north of God Grave."

"How many enemies are there to fight?" Nephis asked, herself running through plans on how to face this harrowing foe. "There are six hundred thousand Saints situated as guards around his castle, around those guards is a gigantic moat containing Clan Night in their transformation abilities."

Nephis nodded slightly as Kai shuddered at the number of foes. "So, who's going to fight all those people, we're strong but six hundred thousand Saints is a bit much even for us." Kai remarked, Morgan nodded in agreement as Revel broke her silence.

"Changing Star, Song of the Fallen and I will fight Mordret, Orion and Sunless can fight the saints guarding the castle seeing as they're our biggest weapon. Kai, is it? You and Morgan can fight the Saints from Night."

This time, it was Orion who reacted. His eyes twitched slightly as an expression of worry overtook his tone. "I get you want your revenge, but you three fighting against someone who could kill two sovereigns without any difficulty, that's insane!" He gripped Revel's shoulders as he looked her in the eye.

"All you need to do is stall, for at least twenty minutes. Sunless and I will be done by then, we're better off fighting with more people." Revel shoved Orion backwards slightly with a look of anger on her face "What, you think I'm too weak to kill him?"

Shaking his head vigorously, Orion's spoke with a tone of mild panic. "No, you're strong, one of the strongest people I know. But I'm not going to let you risk your life without being there to help you." Revel's glare of anger persisted for a few moments before dissipating.

With a sigh, she lightly punched Orion in the chest with a slight blush on her face. "Stop flattering me, I'm supposed to be angry" she mumbled, before Orion wrapped her in a deep hug.

Nephis and the rest of the onlookers observed the scene in mild bewilderment. Although Sunny had heard his behaviour changed when interacting with Revel, he didn't expect such a drastic change to occur. 'The bastard does have emotions' Sunny thought to himself with a smile, preparing himself to tease Orion later.

Slowly, Sunny made his way back up the stairs eliciting looks of surprise from everyone present. Nephis turned to Sunny with an incredulous expression painted across her face "I thought you were going to help us?" she exclaimed.

Sunny didn't bother turning around before he replied, "I am, I just...need to take a shower." With that, Sunny made his way up the stairs, making sure his steps didn't appear hurried. Unknown to him, Nephis followed him upstairs as well.

As he entered his room and closed the door behind him, Sunny removed his shirt and prepared himself for a shower. However, his preparations were stopped immediately as Nephis made her presence known by clearing her throat. An immense blush overtook Sunny's pale features as he moved to exclaim.

Before he could, Nephis stood before him and pressed her hand against his mouth, raising a finger to her lips indicating he should be quiet. Pulling her hand back, Nephis fought back a blush as she averted her eyes away from Sunny's shirtless form.

"I just wanted to say, I'm sorry for not giving you the space you asked for. If your feelings are still undecided that's fine but I just wanted to let you know that I—" before her sentence could finish, Sunny closed the distance and pressed his lips against her own.

The kiss was intense, both lost their breathe extremely quickly as Sunny grabbed Nephis by her waist and pulled her closer to him. Nephis eyes became clouded from pleasure as she lost herself in Sunny's touch.

After a while, Sunny pulled back before grabbing her by the face, looking her in the eyes. "I love you; I'm not going to go a day longer without admitting it. Regardless of how much you've hurt me I doubt how I feel will ever change." With that, he pulled her into a deep hug as Nephis star struck expression became invisible to him.

Pulling back once more, a blush overtook Sunny's face once more as he scratched his chin awkwardly. "Now if you'll excuse me, I need to shower." Nephis shook her head indignantly. "I'm not leaving you alone, I won't look."

Sunny opened his mouth to protest, but after a few moments he relented and turned her around so he could undress. With a towel wrapped around his waist he moved into the shower and turned on the water.

Nephis lied about not looking.

After a while, Sunny and Nephis made their way downstairs. Sunny had donned his onyx armour, radiating darkness throughout the room which starkly contrasted the beautiful radiance that Nephis emitted as she donned her own pale white armour.

"Let's go kill this bastard!"

Sunny's exclamation raised the resolve of all people present, however Orion shook his head and let out a disappointed sigh. "Yeah, calm yourself you bastard. How do you think we'll get there, he's trillions of kilometres away!"

Revel moved to mention the dragon however Orion squeezed her arm lightly to silence her. Sunny's expression became downtrodden, however Kai cut through the awkward mood like a knife. "You guys can ride me...while I'm transformed of course."

Morgan's smile beamed as she imagined the thought in her head, however a look of greed quickly overtook her face as she glared at the room. Her desire to ride Kai alone was evident to all who were present. Orion noticed her selfish intent and shrugged with a defeated expression.

"Since Sunless can't make one, Morgan can use Nightengale as transport and the rest of you can fly on the dragon." This time, it was Sunny's turn to be dumbfounded. Sunny turned to Orion with a look of shock on his face as his mouth fell open, a look of envy present in his eyes.

"Why does a bastard like you have a dragon, who even gave you a dragon!?" he exclaimed, Orion prepared himself to resist the pain of his flaw indefinitely as he turned away from Sunny with a smug expression painted across his face. "He made it out of shadows" Revel remarked, the pain-stricken expression across Orion's face evident.

Conforming to the pain of his flaw, Orion responded to Sunny's questions. "I made it because I'm better than you, nobody had to give it to me." Turning away from Sunny, his smug expression remained as he continued to avoid eye contact.

Sighing angrily at the sight of Orion's smile, Sunny snapped his fingers and in a moment all of them were falling through the air. Kai quickly transformed, scooping Morgan into the air as Sunny and Nephis created wings to keep them airborne.

Orion summoned his dragon; it was of such gigantic proportions that it covered all the eyes could see. Kai sighed as jealousy filled his tone "Why can't I be that big." He mumbled to himself, Morgan rubbed his scales empathetically as she replied, "Don't worry, you're more beautiful than that dark thing could ever be."

The dragon led the way as it shot east with one swing of the gigantic dragon's wings. Nephis and the rest of the faux cohort struggled to keep up as Sunny roared "I thought Mordret was north?"

Orion didn't grace his question with a response as Revel turned back and shouted a reply. The winds rushed past them as they found themselves quickly piercing the sound barrier.

"We're going to pick up soul reaper jet!"
