Chapter 64: God on Earth (1)
Space bent and tore through itself as Mordret remained on his silver throne. His mind was in shambles, constantly on the edge of fracturing as he fought to supress the will of an unholy titan that threatened to rip apart his very soul.
Extending an arm outward, Mordret pointed it at the ceiling before willing it to open. Space contorted around the ceiling of his castle, leaving only empty space where solid obsidian once was allowing Mordret to get a clear look at the sky.
As he observed the stars, a contemplative expression seated itself on his face as he began to channel his essence. "Gravity" he muttered, in a few moments, the distant stars became balls of hot flame that enveloped the horizon as Mordret stared upwards at it indifferently.
Blue flames billowed downwards as Mordret stared at it indifferently 'Blue Giant' was the thought that echoed throughout his fractured mind. Focusing his essence as much as his mind would allow, and a low blue hue overwhelmed his hands.
"Weak force." In a moment, the blue giant had dispersed, leaving only the earth-shattering heat it once wielded behind. Mordret grinned to himself lightly before twisting his hand once more, the world bent to his will as his ceiling shut itself. Hiding the stars from his sight once more.
Trees spun through the air in a whirlwind as a black scythe wielding figure spun between them. As she moved past, carnage was all that followed as she bisected the environment around her in simple fluid movements.
Jumping into the air, she attempted to swing her scythe downwards once more to mark the end of her training. However, an onyx scythe intercepted her. Winning the clash easily, the scythe acted like a hook to pull her upwards.
Before Jet could realise it, a gigantic dragon had flown beneath her. Gravity pulled her downwards at blinding speeds as she made contact with the hard scales of the flying beast. "Who the fuck did that!" Jet exclaimed, her eyes scanning around her for potential threats.
The first sight her eyes registered was Revel, who was sat next to a pale figure and lightly slapping him on the arm to make him aware of Jet's presence. "I know, I know, I should have brought her down gently" Orion said, attempting to placate the scolding he was currently receiving from Revel.
Jumping to his feet, Orion extended an arm of shadows to Jet, quickly wrapping the arm around her in a grip she was incapable of resisting. Pulling her towards him, he brought her to his eye level as he stared at her indifferently.
"You bastard, this time I didn't even do anything to you!" Jet exclaimed, Orion fought back a smirk at the reply and continued to hold up his facade of indifference. Slowly walking to the edge of the dragon, Jet prepared herself for the fall downwards however Orion lightly jumped off the edge and landed on another set of scales.
These golden scales served well in their efforts to calm Jet's worries. 'Kai!' she thought to herself, however her relaxed expression was quickly overtook by annoyance as she noticed Morgan laying on his back nonchalantly, who's expression quickly soured at her arrival.
Disconnecting his arm of shadows from Jet, he stared at Morgan for a second tilting his head to the side curiously. "Are you...jealous?" he commented, Morgan's face turned red as she attempted to summon a memory to attack him. Shoving Jet into the line of attack, Orion jumped back onto the black dragon that flew ahead of them.
The last words they heard from him were "Explain everything to her yourself!" as he commanded his dragon to turn, finally returning to their initial course of Mordrets castle.
A look of murderous glee overtook Orion and Revel's faces as the idea of killing Mordret slowly clouded their minds. Unable to contain his anticipation any further, Orion ordered the dragon to increase it's speed as it quickly covered the horizon in mere moments.
Kai and the rest of the cohort kept up quite easily as they slowly got closer to Mordrets castle. Pulling Revel and Orion out of their murderous fantasies was Cassie's voice, who had been silent nearly the entirety of the trip there.
"What gives you the right to be angry at your mothers murder, when your own boyfriend took the life of a mother himself!" Cassie exclaimed angrily, although she had been silent so far, seeing the two socialise brought her blood to a boiling point that she struggled to contain.
This was her breaking point.
Orion opened his mouth, ready to respond however Revel stretched out a hand silencing him. She made her way towards Cassie in slow steady steps before crouching down to meet her seated form. "Am I about to be lectured about morality by someone like you?"
Her voice dripped with malice as Cassie pulled off her blindfolds, although she couldn't see, the malice that was laced within her beautiful blue eyes was still readily apparent. "I've never said I was innocent, but it's quite ironic that you cry like a weakling when your loved ones die and then kill others without batting an eye!"
Revel's glare of annoyance didn't falter, without even missing a beat she responded, her tone so calm one couldn't discern how enraged she was. "What was it Changing Star said? 'I can't control how I feel', that was it. Now, do you want to continue arguing with the person who may save your life, or do you want to give me a reason to kill you before Mordret does."
Summoning a rapier into her hands, Cassie gripped it tightly before her glare intensified. "Try me." A flash of black intercepted the two before they could attack one another, Orion stood in between the two with an indifferent expression on his face. "Song of the fallen, once this fight is over, we're going to have a very long talk. But for now, both of you should have this."
Grabbing their arms, Orion transferred a memory to the two of them which they quickly summoned. It was merely an array of runes that appeared upon their skin when summoned, which let loose a light hue upon channelling essence into it.
Memory Name: Shadow's Blessing
Memory Type: Charm
Memory Rank: Transcendent
Memory Tier: Eight
Memory Description: A charm bestowed by the highly esteemed lord of shadows Orion. Stops murderous bastard from entering your soul so long as you have essence to fuel it.
Cassie sighed upon reading the memory description before glancing up at Orion, "I'm...immune to Mordret's soul stealing, because I'm blind." Orion laughed at her admission before signalling for her to return the memory, which he immediately applied onto himself.
"At least you being a cripple finally came in handy" he exclaimed before turning to Revel. "Ignore her, she's still spiteful that I killed Raised by Wolves." Orion commanded, before grabbing Revel by the arm and pulling her away from Cassie.
Staring into the horizon, a murderous grin settled upon Revel's face once more as she took in the sight before her "None of that matters anyway, we're here." Dismissing the dragon, Orion extended a hand of shadows to grab Cassie as he watched Revel's transformation ability in awe.
"What? You like what you see?" Revel teased, Orion nodded vigorously before commenting "I'd kiss you, but Song of the Fallen would...never mind" with that, he glided towards Revel and kissed her lightly before their focus returned to the castle.
Space was bending around the centre of the castle as light seemed to fade as it got closer. The stars which riddled the night sky were strangely absent above the castle as Orion took in the sight with curiosity, he sensed thousands of warped and unnatural souls standing motionlessly across a vast ocean.
'Six hundred thousand Saints huh? That'll be fun' he thought to himself before slowly descending to the ground. Sunny and Nephis landed soon after him, Sunny's hair looking slightly ruffled with red lipstick lightly marking his neck.
"Did you...?" Orion's question trailed off as a glare from Sunny shut him down. "Don't ask." Was all he received from his troubles as the rest of the cohort stared seriously at the ocean before them.
Turning to Kai and Morgan, was Sunny who's face was riddled with worry. "Are you sure the two of you can handle sixteen saints? In their home territory no less?" Morgan nodded firmly as Kai shrugged "It's not a matter of being sure, we have to."
Sunny opened his mouth to reply however let the comment go as Kai flew into the air, arrow in hand. His bow glowed with essence as he summoned a golden arrow and pulled back the string with immense force, in a split second, the ocean exploded with electricity, the force parting the waves slightly before they clashed with one another once more.
A gigantic Orca leapt out the water with murderous intent, armour plating it's body with it's flippers being armed with dagger like sharpness. The vague form of a gigantic squid could also be seen as lightning cracked in the sky and revealed its silhouette.
"Woah, so that's an Orca." Sunny and Orion commented in awe, before their expressions quickly grew serious. Surrounding the remaining members of the cohort in shadows bar Morgan with shadows, it was time for the fight to begin.
Nephis, Cassie, Jet and Revel readied themselves as they found themselves standing on the entrance of a large building. It was largely empty, the walls only fortified for combat as a man stood in the centre of it all in meditation.
Occasional screams could be heard, despite the man's lack of movement as he lightly hovered in the air. Space bent towards him as the ground beneath him distorted, his will to destroy evident in all of existence.
Summoning their weapons, Revel lunged towards him with a dagger in hand. Mordret's form didn't even shift as her attack aimed for his throat bent to the left suddenly and hit the ground beside Mordret with a thud.
Quick to react, Revel spun her dagger and spun backwards. Her blade aimed for Mordrets jugular, however, her hand moved upwards. It wasn't that he caused her body to move against her will, rather space itself bent to conform to his will and deemed it so he would not be cut.
Jumping backwards to create space between the two, Revel grunted in annoyance as she glared at Mordret's meditating form. The space that bent around him receded slightly as Mordret's eyes opened, revealing two sets of multicoloured eyes.
Letting out a low, diabolical laugh escape his lips. Mordret's feet collided with the floor softly as he stood facing the four. He didn't summon any armour, instead he simply folded one arm behind his back and stared at the combatants before him indifferently.
"Come, you'll be an excellent test run."
Across the horizon, Sunny and Orion made their way slowly towards the crowd of Saints. There were many of them, some young and some old, some who Sunny himself recognised. His expression gritted in anger slightly as rain slowly fell from the sky.
Orion formed an umbrella out of shadows to cover himself as he continued to make his way forward, Sunny followed behind in silence. Soon enough, the two of them found themselves in the middle of the swarm of saints that had surrounded them, all standing motionlessly.
At once, the echo of their voices resounded throughout the field. "I have no business with you shadows, leave now if you want to preserve your life." Was the message that resounded throughout the field, their voices were so different however the sounds that reverberated throughout the field caused the ground to shake.
Orion pulled out a cigar and lit it, Sunny raised an eyebrow as he watched Orion bring it to his mouth and take a drag. "Are you trying to look cool?" Sunny mumbled, restraining a laugh at the sight.
"Yes, now shut the fuck up" Orion replied, embarrassment devoid in his tone. The two of them turned to the Saints that surrounded them, backs facing each other as they spoke in unison "And if we refuse to leave, what then?"
"You will be killed, and absorbed for my evolution" was the reply he received. Malicious smiles painted themselves across Sunny and Orion's faces as their essence flared, pushing back the Saints closest to them as swords formed into their outstretched arms.
"Let's kill each other!"
And in that moment, the battle between six hundred thousand Saints and two divine shadows had begun.
