Chapter 68 - Extra: A Family of Three
The day after Mu Ci recovered, Gu Huai suddenly said sadly: “I want to have a child.”
Mu Ci almost spit out a mouthful of tea. He stared at Gu Huai in surprise and said in great surprise: “Have men in the twenty-first century evolved enough to have children?”
“…” Gu Huai said helplessly, “I mean to adopt one, how can a man have a child.”
“Oh.” Mu Ci didn’t know whether it was regret or relief. Fortunately, he took another sip of tea, “Why do you suddenly want to adopt a child?”
“Don’t you think a family of three is very warm?” Gu Huai sighed, “I am also thirty years old, and I have almost accomplished my career. It’s time to start a family.”
Mu Ci still didn’t understand, but now Gu Huai was in charge, so his opinion might not be that important. Mu Ci nodded, “If you like children, go ahead and adopt one.”
Gu Huai raised his eyebrows, “You don’t like children?”
Mu Ci thought for a moment, “I still like them, back then I raised my own sister and I like her very much anyway.”
“Actually, I haven’t had much contact with children.” Gu Huai smiled, “Except for you, if the adopted child looks like you, I can reluctantly like them.”
When the previous incident was mentioned, Mu Ci’s expression was not very good and he hurriedly changed the subject, “So in the final analysis, you don’t like children, so why would you adopt a child?”
“Bring it back to you to play with.” Gu Huai deliberately emphasized the last few words, “Mrs. Gu.”
Mu Ci blushed and cursed in a low voice: “Don’t call me that!”
Gu Huai admired Mu Ci’s angry look with interest for a while, laughed twice, and then decided, “It’s settled then. Let’s go to the orphanage this weekend.”
Mu Ci was also very interested. Although their home was not deserted, if there were more children, it would be more like an ordinary family.
.
Gu Huai had extraordinary mobility and never delayed. One day he said he wanted to adopt a child, and the next day he took Mu Ci straight to the orphanage. He called the dean in advance and was warmly welcomed as soon as he arrived.
Under the current system, it was very simple for same-sex couples to adopt a child as long as they complete the procedures. It was even said that because of the legalization of same-sex marriage, the chances of children in orphanages being adopted were several points higher than before.
Not to mention that Gu Huai’s influence was there. Everyone knew that as long as they joined the Gu family, it was only a matter of time before they became famous. This was simply a turning point in the lives of children without fathers and mothers. It was the only chance to fly up a branch and become a phoenix.
After they spoke a few words to the dean, they were taken to the lounge to choose the children they liked.
Gu Huai had told the dean a few hard requirements before he came. It must be a boy, between two and three years old, with white skin, a cute appearance, and preferably with lighter eyes.
After hearing this, Mu Ci didn’t react for a while, until Gu Huai took advantage of the dean’s attention and secretly kissed him on the ear, jokingly saying: “I picked them based on your appearance.”
Mu Ci’s face turned a bit red. He knew that Gu Huai had no good intentions! So, the reason why this man wanted to adopt a child, was because he had so much fun taking care of little Mu Ci and wanted to fine similar one.
The aunts at the orphanage brought out several two-year-old little boys, all of whom were very handsome. Some were still sleeping, while others were already awake, blinking and staring at them curiously with watery eyes.
Gu Huai looked around carefully, and finally said to Mu Ci in disappointment: “There is no one like you.”
Mu Ci almost laughed angrily, worried about the presence of outsiders, and cursed in a low voice: “Of course, it won’t be. How could any child look like me!”
“It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t look like you.” Gu Huai complained dissatisfiedly, “They’re not even 10% as cute as you.”
“There is no comparison between adults and children…” Mu Ci said. He suddenly paused, probably thinking of his dark past with his father, he turned his head silently and stopped talking. His eyes suddenly fell on the window not far away.
There was a thin figure standing quietly outside the window. Mu Ci took a closer look and saw that it was a boy of thirteen years old with neatly cut short hair and dark eyes, staring coldly inside.
Mu Ci was stunned for a moment, and couldn’t help but raise his hand and point to the window, “Dean, who is that?”
The dean and Gu Huai looked out the window together. The child turned away and left, but the dean still saw a little bit and sighed. He took a breath and said, “That’s Li Chi.”
When he mentioned him, the dean seemed to have a headache. “He is too difficult to discipline. He always gets into trouble, loves to fight, and doesn’t listen to the aunts here, so no one is willing to adopt him yet. Moreover, he is already thirteen, and most families don’t like such an old child.”
Gu Huai’s interest faded, and he continued to look at the two-year-old children, trying to find one who was slightly more in tune with Mu Ci.
But Mu Ci looked out the window thoughtfully. He tugged on Gu Huai’s sleeve and whispered, “Gu Huai, I want that child.”
Gu Huai was stunned, “That wild boy just now?”
Mu Ci said yes. He explained, “I think his eyes look like yours.”
Gu Huai recalled the boy’s eyes and sneered disdainfully, “Are his eyes so worthy being compared with mine?”
Mu Ci nodded seriously, and Gu Huai felt a sigh in his throat. He deliberately approached Mu Ci and threatened in a low voice: “Look carefully again. When did your wise and mighty husband look like a wild dog?!”
Mu Ci really observed his eyes carefully. Finally, he said, “It’s not a wild dog, but… you look a bit like a wolf or a lion, and so does the child.”
Gu Huai didn’t know whether Mu Ci was praising him or hurting him, so he let go of Mu Ci in frustration.
Mu Ci showed a rare side and coquettishly said to him: “Just pick him, I like him very much. He is a good young man. He will definitely be able to help you when he grows up.”
The dean on the side heard their argument and said hesitantly: “If you really want to adopt him, I have to explain something to you. This child’s life experience is very bad. His mother remarried when he was three years old, and both followed the husband. However, the husband was a gambler, and loan sharks often came to the house. He threatened to cause trouble, and later the husband robbed and injured someone and went to jail…I heard that the child reported it to the police himself, when he was only ten years old.”
After hearing this, Mu Ci was so surprised that he didn’t speak for a long time, but Gu Huai raised his eyebrows in interest.
In fact, there were some things that Mu Ci didn’t know, but Gu Huai’s life was not smooth when he was a child.
When he was seven or eight years old, he was experiencing the worst civil strife in the Gu family. As the orthodox heir, he had already escaped death several times at such a young age. Later, after he took hold of the power, he purged all those who had troubled him overtly or covertly. Such ruthless methods must have really brought some revenge.
Mu Ci said that his eyes looked like a wolf, which made sense. Gu Huai was a wolf. If anyone dared to pluck a hair from him, he would chase him to the ends of the earth and bite their neck off.
.
Mu Ci looked at him anxiously. After all, the power to make the final decision was still in Gu Huai’s hands. He could only plead in a low voice: “He is very pitiful. Let’s adopt him.”
Gu Huai looked at him with evil intentions and whispered something into his ear, Mu Ci’s brows suddenly wrinkled. He opened his mouth to say something, but Gu Huai immediately stopped him, “You can’t bargain.”
Mu Ci glared at him, reluctantly. He said: “Okay.”
Gu Huai turned to the dean, “Then let’s call him over and take a look.”
The dean hurriedly said: “Okay, okay, I will ask him to see you now.”
.
Five minutes later, when the child named Li Chi actually stood in front of them, Mu Ci realized that he was really very handsome. But he was thin. Not delicate thin, but his body was thin and strong, and they could even see the faint outline of muscles in his forearms. The dean said that he loved to fight, and Mu Ci believed it when he saw it.
Li Chi was always cold and looked mature, hardly like a thirteen-year-old child. He ignored what the dean and Gu Huai said to him. Only when Mu Ci asked him something, his eyes changed. He looked around Mu Ci and answered his question slowly.
Finally, Mu Ci lowered his body and asked him, “Are you willing to go home with me?”
Li Chi was silent for a moment, raised his finger to Gu Huai, and said unceremoniously: “Who is he to you?”
Mu Ci was stunned for a moment. Just as he was about to speak, Gu Huai had already answered for him, “I am his partner.”
Mu Ci’s ears turned red and he turned to look at Gu Huai angrily. Gu Huai spread his hands innocently, “Did I say something wrong?”
Mu Ci was furious and could only turn around and carefully explain to Li Chi, “He is right. Although we are both men, we are indeed legal partners.”
Li Chi glanced at Gu Huai lukewarmly and nodded, “I know.”
“Then are you willing…”
Before Mu Ci could finish speaking, Li Chi had already spoken: “Yes, I don’t want to stay here anymore. It’s full of boring kids.”
Gu Huai was standing beside him, looking unhappy. This kid really deserved a beating!
