American Tax Officer

Chapter 206: Los Angeles Shakes

Back at the office, David immediately took out some paper and began to meticulously describe the information they had obtained from Marcellus and the others.

Time slipped by, and three o'clock arrived quickly.

Hakim pushed the door open and shook his head, "The Rodrigozki Group has no intention of coming over to pay their taxes."

David had anticipated this outcome, so he wasn't particularly surprised. He pushed the documents he had written across the desk and said, "Get Nisen Bakesimmons to lead their inspection team to raid these places and bring back all the accountants and lawyers to me!"

Upon hearing this, Hakim was taken aback. He quickly picked up the documents to take a look, but as he scanned the contents, his expression turned to one of shock.

Not only did it contain the locations of the drug processing sites and warehouses of the Rodrigozki Group, but also the names of individuals involved in laundering money and managing their accounts.

And these were details that their Western Suburbs Branch had never possessed before.

"Chief, is this information accurate... is it real?" he asked.

"What do you think!" replied David sharply.

"I'll arrange the teams to move out right away," Hakim said without asking further, turning on his heel and hurrying off.

Kukur Building.

Marcellus and his fellow Bear Countrymen were still there, and as the three o'clock deadline given by David passed, they became somewhat anxious.

Just then, someone's phone rang in the room, and he answered immediately, "What are you saying, how could this happen, how did they find out? Damn it!"

After cursing out loud, he hung up the call and turned to tell everyone, "I just got a notification from my subordinates, the warehouse at South City Department Store has been raided by the IRS."

"What's going on!"

The Bear Countrymen present were stunned upon hearing this.

Their line of work was not one to see the light of day, and places like their warehouse and drug processing plant were kept confidential.

But now one had been raided by the IRS, which could mean that other locations might have been exposed as well?

While everyone was still reeling from the shock, Valenky's phone rang, and his expression grew dark after the call, "The chemical factory location has also been raided," he reported to the others after hanging up.

"What!" Enjoy new tales from empire

Panic set in among the group.

Considering the scale of the drug processing sites controlled by Valenky, which were among the top three in their entire syndicate, if such a place had been raided, it stood to reason that the others were in dire straits as well!

And sure enough, their fears were confirmed.

As time went on, several more Bear Countrymen received calls, each one bringing news of additional locations being raided.

But the worst was yet to come: Abram received a call and said, "We are in trouble. Lili Company has been investigated by the IRS, and they took Shelley, Lev, and the others."

"Damn it, how did this happen!"

Besides the raid on their major locations, the gathered men were only panicked initially, but hearing about Lili Company and related personnel being taken sent them into a frenzy of panic and frustration.

The reason was simple: that company was a financial firm, and its staff were responsible for laundering their syndicate's money as well as funneling it into their accounts.

If the company were investigated and its employees confessed, their accounts and funds would be in jeopardy.

It concerned significant amounts of money for everyone present, and if the IRS were to freeze or seize those funds, they'd have nowhere left to turn.

"Mr. Marcellus, the IRS is now downstairs," reported one of his subordinates as he entered.

This report turned the already frustrated group's mood even darker.

Grinding his teeth, Valenky muttered, "The IRS coming now probably isn't to chat."

There was no need to spell it out, the others had deduced as much already.

With their locations raided and the company managing their finances also under scrutiny, the IRS's arrival meant they were likely to be taken in for questioning.

"We miscalculated..."

According to Rodrigozki and Marcellus's earlier assumption, the IRS must have obtained a considerable amount of information on their group.

But what Marcellus hadn't expected was that the IRS had much more than just a considerable amount of information. Judging by the number of their locations that had been raided, and the investigation at Lili Company, the IRS had thoroughly turned their organization upside down.

In this case, they would no longer have a chance to negotiate, and would probably have no choice but to be at the mercy of the authorities.

Marcellus felt both furious and powerless at this realization.

But there wasn't much time for him to wallow in his thoughts, as Nisen Bakesimmons and his team already entered the room. Nisen, with contempt in his gaze, addressed the men, "Gentlemen, you are suspected of tax evasion. Please come with me for an investigation."

The group looked to Marcellus, who after wrestling with his emotions for a moment, finally responded, "Fine, we'll go with you."

With the IRS having a substantial presence there and considering the circumstances had escalated to this point, there wasn't much sense in resisting any further.

After all, the IRS was only after money—worst case, they would concede and pay up to settle the matter!

As a large group was arrested and taken into the Western Suburbs Branch, it caused an uproar among the media,
