Chapter 11: The F-Tier Grind
Well, here I am, Rank F. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. I walked out of the Hall of Records with that slip of paper in my hand, staring at the words "Rank F" like they were mocking me. F for failure. F for forever stuck at the bottom.
I had no idea what to expect, but I knew one thing: Rank F meant I was going to be doing some of the most boring, tedious tasks imaginable. Which, honestly, was exactly what I deserved.
I wandered around the outer courtyard of the sect, hoping to get a feel for the place. It was quiet—too quiet. I guess the higher-ups didn't care much for the lower-ranked disciples. There were a few Rank E and D guys around, but they were too busy with their own missions to even glance at me.
That's when I saw it. A big notice board, the kind where they post all the available missions. I walked over, hoping to find something halfway decent. Maybe there was something simple I could handle. Something that wouldn't make me look completely useless.
But when I looked at the board, I nearly choked.
"Mission: Fetch Water for the Elder's Tea"
Reward: 1 Primvel Stone
Rank: F
Okay, yeah. That was the kind of task I expected. Fetching water. Not exactly glamorous. But hey, it was a mission, right?
I looked around, trying to find someone who could explain what the heck I was supposed to do. An older disciple, probably Rank E, noticed me staring at the board and walked over.
"First time taking a mission?" he asked, his voice filled with amusement.
I nodded, still holding the paper like it was my ticket to greatness. "Yeah, I just got promoted."
He raised an eyebrow. "Rank F, huh? Well, don't get your hopes up. The only missions we get are basically just errands. You'll be fetching tea, delivering packages, cleaning the Elder's garden, that sort of thing."
I tried not to show my disappointment. "So... what? I'm just a glorified errand boy?"
The older disciple smirked. "Yep. But don't worry. If you manage not to screw it up, you'll slowly start getting better jobs. Just don't expect anything exciting anytime soon."
I sighed and looked back at the mission board. Fetching water for tea... yeah, that sounded like the exact kind of soul-crushing task I could expect.
But hey, it was a start. And maybe, just maybe, if I didn't completely screw it up, I could slowly work my way up.
