Amon, The lowest tier disciple in the Insanity Sect

Chapter 12: The Water Mission... And Other Dreadful Tasks

I was officially on my first mission. Fetch water for Elder Hurky's tea. I couldn't believe this was how my grand rise to power was starting. If there was an afterlife for my dreams, I'd pray for them to be reincarnated into something better.

With a sigh, I trudged over to the courtyard's well, the one place even a Rank F disciple like me could access. The air was thick with the smell of the distant training grounds, and the noise of disciples yelling at each other made it feel like I was in a forgotten corner of the sect.

I grabbed the bucket, dropped it into the well, and started hauling it up. It wasn't heavy, but it wasn't fun either. As I pulled the rope, my mind wandered. Maybe I could do something more with this. Like, what if I used this water to challenge someone to a duel? Nah, that'd be stupid. And besides, I have to be... efficient. Water for tea. Not a grand mission.

When I finally had the bucket full, I was about to turn back when I caught sight of something strange. An old man in the corner of the courtyard, standing with his arms crossed. He had an air about him that screamed important, though his clothes weren't anything special. Just a plain robe, like everyone else's.

I froze. No way… Was this one of the Elders?

Before I could make a run for it, he spoke. "You're Amon, right? The one recommended by LeeOn?"

I couldn't hide the surprise on my face. "Uh... yeah. That's me."

He gave a small, dry chuckle. "I'm not here to waste your time, kid. Just get that water to Elder Hurky."

And just like that, he disappeared, vanishing into thin air.

I blinked, looking down at the bucket. What just happened? Was that some kind of test? Or was it just another one of those weird things the sect was known for? Either way, Elder Hurky didn't seem to care about this "Rank F" thing. If he knew who I was, then... maybe there was more going on here than just fetching water.

I picked up the bucket again and started walking toward Elder Hurky's quarters. A strange feeling stirred inside me. Maybe I was just a Rank F disciple for now, but there was something off about that guy. Maybe I could use this to my advantage.
