Chapter 6: Rank Up!

The streets, particularly around the guild, were buzzing with rumors.

There were whispers about someone who could report the completion of a strong monster extermination request the very next day. This person was said to have a large wolf—a Wolf King—by their side, emanating an intimidating presence that made it difficult for ordinary adventurers to even approach them.

Opening the door to the Tamer Guild, Taichi walked up to the reception where Shalti was stationed, greeting her with a cheerful “Hello.”

“Taichi! Welcome!” she replied warmly.

“I came to report that I’ve completed the orc extermination request from yesterday.”

“Um, that was the request you asked for yesterday evening, right? That wasn’t just for ten orcs; it was to eradicate the entire orc settlement.”

“I’m sorry for not explaining it well,” Shalti said, looking apologetic. However, Taichi didn’t quite understand why.

(I did wipe out the orc settlement, though…)

It seemed there was some misunderstanding between them.

“I mean, it’s impossible to eradicate an orc settlement in one night…”

Just as Shalti said this, Taichi placed the proof of extermination—orc ears—on the counter. They landed with a thud, and the pile easily exceeded a hundred.

“…………”

Shalti’s eyes widened in surprise, and she let out a big breath.

“Oh right… I decided that I wouldn’t be surprised by anything you do, Taichi. But to wipe out an orc settlement in one night is just amazing. Normally, it takes time to take down the sentry orcs little by little.”

He couldn’t tell her that Luke had done it in about ten minutes.

Taichi chuckled awkwardly while Shalti processed the request.

“Oh! Your guild rank has gone up with this request, Taichi!”

“Wait, really?!”

“Yes! You’re now E-rank starting today!”

“Wow, wow, wow!”

It had only been about ten days since he started taking requests with Luke. He thought it would take more time, so he was incredibly happy.

“Yes! Thank you so much!!”

Taichi pumped his fist in joy, expressing his excitement.

“Only one more rank to go before you can start purchasing properties,” Shalti reminded him.

Taichi nodded vigorously at her words. Initially, he thought it would be a long journey, but now that he had come this far, it felt within reach. Ideas started to flow into his mind, like making a way to access the garden from the window and adding cat doors between rooms.

(Whoa, I’m so excited!)

Once he got home, it would be a good idea to use his skills to buy books on construction and interior design and study up.

“Shalti, please give me the next request! I want to quickly level up and make the fluff café even bigger!!”

“You’re really fired up…”

However, Shalti’s brows furrowed apologetically.

“Huh? Shalti?”

“Um, the truth is, there are no requests available right now.”

“What?!”

Taichi opened his mouth in surprise at Shalti’s words.

If he didn’t complete requests, he wouldn’t be able to level up in the guild, and that meant he wouldn’t be able to buy a property for a long time.

“Why are there no requests?”

“Our guild generally has a low number of requests.”

“Oh…”

There were never any tamers around when he visited.

He had seen a few guild staff members, but it was mostly just Shalti at the reception.

(It’s a problem that the number of tamers isn’t increasing…)

Even though Taichi was spreading the word about the benefits of fluffy monsters, it would be pointless if no one was there to tame them.

But he couldn’t just tell ordinary people to become tamers and start taming monsters!

(We need to create a world where kids say, ‘My dream is to be a tamer!’…)

If that happened, shops related to fluffiness would naturally increase.

“Taichi, you’ve completed all the few requests we had. I didn’t think they would be accomplished this quickly… I believe new requests will come in tomorrow, so can you wait a little longer?”

“Tomorrow, huh? Got it.”

A few weeks would seem long, but waiting just until tomorrow wasn’t a problem at all. If he spent the day relaxing with his familiars at home, tomorrow would arrive in no time.

“Then, I’ll come again tomorrow.”

“Yes, I’ll be waiting for you!”

Taichi waved goodbye and left the Tamer Guild.
