Apocalypse Survival: Starting with a Shelter

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: The Post-Apocalyptic Farmer

"I see tomatoes, purple cabbage... wait, is that strawberry seedlings? And grapevines!"

Miao Jun, the owner of a private shelter with a background in agriculture, was even more shocked than Wang Jianguo. He recognized many of the young vegetable and fruit plants in Su Wu's photos and realized their significance.

The presence of such crops meant that Su Wu had already surpassed the basic needs for survival and food. He not only had the resources but also the leisure to pursue higher levels of luxury.

If Su Wu's grapevines matured before the apocalypse ended, those grapes would be worth their weight in gold. Wealthy shelters would undoubtedly pay a premium to acquire them.

"Not just that—look closely at the edges of the photo. Tulips, blue starflowers, larkspur..."

"There are so many flowers! Are you planning to build a garden?"

For the first time, a family member of a high-ranking official from another shelter spoke up in the chat, unable to hide their amazement.

If fresh fruits were considered luxury items, then flowers were nothing short of mythical. At least in Jianghe City, not even the largest official shelters could afford to cultivate these ornamental plants with no practical use.

Su Wu's underground farm might very well be the only place in the entire city growing flowers on a large scale.

"The lettuce output is about this much for now," Su Wu explained, addressing the lively discussion in the chat. "But once crops like cabbage, spinach, and kale grow, they'll also be available for sale."

"As for tomatoes, bell peppers, and fruits, we'll see. Their output is limited, and most of it will be kept for personal use."

He selectively answered the questions that most people were curious about, turning the discussion into an advertisement for his hydroponic farm.

The effect was immediate. The chat became even more active, with many people beginning to see Su Wu as a valuable vegetable supplier.

"With such a large vegetable farm, you might as well call yourself a farmer," joked Heavy Knight, who had previously traded with Su Wu. "Your life is better than it was before the apocalypse!"

Heavy Knight, once a wealthy landlord living a life many dreamed of, now felt like an ordinary person compared to Su Wu. He dreamed of having an underground farm but struggled to even maintain basic power for his shelter, let alone grow crops.

The lively discussion continued for a long time.

However, as more people joined the conversation, less harmonious voices began to surface.

"Can I ask where your shelter is located?"

"If I ever need something, I'd like to visit in person to save on delivery fees."

Su Wu's shelter location wasn't exactly a secret. He had casually mentioned it in previous chats.

Before he could respond, someone in the chat provided the answer.

Su Wu paused his typing and glanced at both the person who asked and the one who answered.

He said nothing, letting the matter rest.

---

On the surface, the delivery process for the large cargo truck took over two hours.

As Su Wu had anticipated, the three deliveries involving drone transport were particularly troublesome, requiring extensive coordination.

The process was further delayed when one of the K2-series agricultural drones malfunctioned mid-delivery, forcing it to return for repairs. Ultimately, the entire operation took an hour longer than expected.

Meanwhile, back at the manufacturing center, the engineering robots had completed the CNC machine and were halfway through building the 3D printer.

Once the trades were finalized, Su Wu hurried to the manufacturing center.

"Is this the CNC machine?"

Standing before the towering machine, which was five or six meters tall and occupied three entire rooms, Su Wu felt a deep sense of insignificance.

He glanced at the manufacturing report.

The engineering robots had used around 60 tons of metal to construct the machine, including a significant amount of rare materials. The project had nearly depleted the shelter's inventory of rare metals.

"This used up quite a bit of resources," Su Wu muttered, frowning. But he quickly let it go. "A little extra material use is fine."

More materials meant fewer survival points would be consumed for upgrades, and the machine would likely offer enhanced functionality.

Placing his hand on the metallic surface of the CNC machine, a notification appeared in his vision.

"Upgrade requires 30 survival points."

The amount was less than expected, but there was only one upgrade option—improving the CNC machine.

"Upgrade."

Su Wu confirmed the upgrade mentally.

A soft white glow enveloped the machine for a brief moment before fading away.

"New intelligent terminal detected."

"Grant access?"

Su Wu's tablet displayed a prompt from the AI system managing the shelter, asking for permission to integrate the CNC machine.

He granted access, and the tablet's screen dimmed briefly before displaying a new interface for operating the CNC machine.

"This thing has so many features."

"It can produce custom parts with no restrictions."

"Precision is at the micron level."

"Production speed... let's test it."

After exploring the interface, Su Wu had a construction robot load raw materials into the machine.

The CNC machine operated for about ten minutes before producing a series of parts of varying sizes.

An engineering robot quickly assembled them, and soon, a standard automatic rifle appeared in its hands.

"Much faster than the robots making things by hand."

"If it's mass-producing standard parts, it could be even quicker."

"It's practically a miniature, universal industrial assembly line."

After conducting several more tests, Su Wu was thoroughly impressed with the CNC machine's performance.

Even components requiring high-temperature forging could be produced seamlessly.

In the realm of metalworking, the CNC machine seemed capable of manufacturing nearly anything within the micron precision range.
