Chapter 5: Chapter 5
Dongfang Xi clicked her tongue. "Rather than that, you might as well tell me what you came here for."
"Do I need to have other reasons? Can't I pay a visit just because I miss you?"
"Heh! A little bird told me that our country's military is quite hectic these days, so... care to tell me why Major General Dongfang is here slacking off in an oh-so-pink girly café instead of attending to his duties?"
Dongfang Yu sighed. "Little girl, your hands are quite far-reaching. To think that you've even gained such confidential information despite the recent military movement being classified as top secret."
Dongfang Xi shrugged. "Money makes the world go round after all."
"That's true."
"Well then, should we move on to the next topic?"
"Sir! Yes! Sir!" Dongfang Yu laughed helplessly as he took out a small envelope from his coat's inner pocket and handed it over. "Since you're already well aware of the basics, then I'll go straight to the point. The military needs an undercover agent preferably about your age with both explosive martial prowess and high IQ to monitor and protect someone and you just happened to perfectly fit the criteria set by the higher-ups. It doesn't matter what you do as long as you gain the target's trust and get him on our side. As for the remuneration, let's just go with the usual amount. I'll have it deposited to your account the day after, although, as you might have guessed already, you won't be able to use it for much longer so remember to spend as much as you can before that happens."
"Fair enough." Dongfang Xi nodded as she stuffed the envelope into her backpack and stood up. "Now that the stuff's been delivered, you can go back and get busy with your own things."
Major General Dongfang's lips twitched as he watched his daughter heartlessly walking away, a little speechless and a little aggrieved.
"This girl..." Was it too much to want to spend a little more time with him? Although he was indeed quite busy, but still... it wouldn't hurt to act a little more spoiled and clingy with him, right?
Sometimes, it's really a headache when a child is much too sensible. Sigh!
Here, the old father was still sighing over his daughter's early maturity while on the other hand, his daughter had already hailed a cab and was on her way to her next destination, unaware of his thoughts.
Although to be honest, if she knew, she would have shuddered in complete horror and disgust, saying, 'Old man, wake up! The sun's still up and shining yet you're already having such sweet dreams!'
After all, even though he was her father in name and she had indeed acknowledged that fact, but still...
Oh well, let's just forget about it!
She could never imagine herself doing such a thing anyway.
Looking out the window, she saw a familiar person standing by the roadside not far away, as if waiting for someone.
"Master, just pull up at the intersection."
"Alright then."
Dongfang Xi scanned the QR code to pay her fare and got out of the car.
"Boss! You're finally here!" The person from earlier ran up to her and gave her a key. "The things you purchased had already been delivered last night."
Dongfang Xi nodded as a form of acknowledgement before taking out a thick stack of cash from her backpack and handed it over. "Well done."
"Boss! I can't accept this." The man hastily waved his hands and retreated a few steps back, looking flustered. "If it weren't for you back then, my wife and I would have lost our lives in that car accident. This little bit of favor is nothing."
"I see." Dongfang Xi pursed her lips. Thinking for a moment, she returned the money into her backpack and took out two porcelain bottles, forcibly stuffing it into his hands. "There are ten pills in each bottle. Take one every three days and call me to ask for more when you run out. I'll have it delivered to you when the time comes."
"Thank you..." The man didn't even ask what it was nor what it's effects were. Just held the porcelain bottles tightly with a grateful expression as he watched her departing back.
He didn't doubt her in the least bit.
Although he didn't know much about her, however, he knew for certain that she didn't mean him any harm. If anything, it should be something beneficial for him.
Walking a fair bit of distance from where she alighted from the car earlier, Dongfang Xi stopped in front of a huge warehouse and opened the door using the key given by the man earlier, her lips curling up at the sight that greeted her.
Sacks of grain such as rice and wheat packed in bags, as well as flour, fruits and vegetables, medicine, clothing and other such daily necessities were neatly piled up in mountains in front of her. It was quite an assortment of goods to say the least, enough for her and her family to live on for a few years or so with much to spare.
However, Dongfang Xi knew that it was merely but a stopgap measure as the future remains uncertain and she was never a person to leave things up to fate.
Working hard and hoarding as much goods as she can is still the way to go!
Closing the door behind her, Dongfang Xi walked towards the mountains of goods and reached out a hand.
"Collect."
Whooosh!!!
As soon as the word fell, the array of goods in front of her disappeared, leaving not a single item nor a morsel of food behind.
"Sure enough, having a portable space makes things much too convenient."
As to how she came into possession of such a precious thing, let's just say she got lucky after having been chased down and gravely injured by assassins while doing a task assigned by her adopted grandfather in Germany a few years back, her blood accidentally dripped onto a random stone by the roadside and voilà!
She gained a portable space or rather, what you may call a secret realm space created by a fallen immortal for no rhyme or reason, leaving her completely dumbfounded.
As far as she could gather from reading webnovels in her spare time, don't portable spaces usually take on the form of jewelry and such, being passed down from generation to generation as a family heirloom, being sold in an antique store, or even, given by mysterious old man you once saved and made an acquaintance with?
Why was it that when it came to her, it was so unassuming that anyone could have missed it?!
